shock

Darth Vader is now the indirect founder of the Rebel Alliance?

Wow, that kind of puts a whole new spin on the entire OT, huh?

I'm...hopeful, actually. Much more than I was six months ago. This sounds pretty good. However, I'm worried this will just continue the EU's love affair with fascism and undermine the whole Rebellion. :/

I would certainly hope his name isn't Jacob.

But that begs a totally different question: if he unrelated from anyone in the franchise, why keep his name a secret? What's it matter if he finds out his identity if the name isn't anything important? *shrug*

Looking forward to more info, though.

There isn't anything INdirect about it.
Vader gave the order to unite the Emperor's enemies... Bail, GI and MM.
Which makes sense of the earlier spoiler that the SA was searching for Bail on Felucia.
The Rebellion as we've known it, now becomes the end result of that order.

Sure, but when have we ever seen Vader actually try to use the Rebellion as a distraction to fight Palpatine? Vader's always been about crushing the Rebels. There's a bigger game here... grin

his name is jacob, son of a jedi who died during the empires invasion of kashyyyk. vader took him in afterwards and the trauma of witnessing his fathers death deleted the kids memory. he discovers this in a dagobah-cave-esque vision returning to the former home of his father while on kashyyyk to stop the enslavement of the wookiees, helping senatorial observer teenage leia to escape

there certainly IS a bigger game... but maybe after the end of TFU, Vader is against the rebels cause the get too dangerous? Vader wants the empire but not the emperor. he does just want a distraction, not a successful rebellion though

they are friends... yet the sith way is one of betrayal. vader chooses the emperor over anyone whenever he is near vader, if he is far away, vader has other things on his mind...

when in the timeline is TFU set? I seem to be unsure and never read a date yet... though, I wonder if teenage leias age works with all this. SA seems to be from the looks 16 to 20 yo while Leia is said in the book to be about his age. so... 4BBY? 2BBY? I always had the impression or memory got it wrong, that the rebellion was 3-5 years old in ANH. Leia was per ROTS 18yo in ANH, so... how young is she really? actually being a senatorial observer, is she a senator yet or just aid of Bail Organa... she became senator at 16 2BBY. with the crispin Han solo Trilogy ca. 5BBY I wonder where to place TFU. do we have anything official on the placement?

for those Force philosophers...

paraphrased by myeself, the Secret Apprentice's POV on the force as vader and live showed it to him:

We are always moving. Sometimes towards darkness, sometimes towards the light. both are just directions, not actual sides of the Force. these terms are just for philosophers... The force is one, though some walk the light or dark directions that they forgot how to turn, how to remember what the other direction was like. most stay all their live in the grey area... some walk both directions, sometimes dark and sometimes light. some choose one over the other, most don´t. "everything is relative." he says
He also believes in a kind of redemption, and that one accidently slips one direction or the other, that nothing is permanent.

sounds like a mix of Vergere'esque there is no dark side per se, Jacen-esque ends justify the means and Sithy "we use the whole force, jedi limit themselves" pov.. actually I like it, but it smells of darksideresque simplify your life

edit: somehow I get the feeling the game and comic will feature quite a lot additional or missing stuff than the novel shows. between some chapters are little timejumps of a few hours or one jump even encompasses 6 months (the healing and remaking of the secret apprentice). lots of potential here to fill gaps, but no gaps are unneccessary, they all fit well into the story and make sense, like (ship lands and we cut to 2 hours later of kashyyk spider slaying)
