Sometimes.
Check pages 392-3 of the mm edition of Shatterpoint. Mace takes the blade in the guts (probably the stomach, since I seem to recall Depa was right-handed), and he locks her wrist with his grip so that she can't kill him by slashing it free, then whacks her in the temple with the butt of his own lightsaber, so that she releases her activation plate.
As far as the superheated bodily fluids business goes, I do have that phenomenon occur to Phloremirrla Tenk in the early chapters of Shatterpoint, though it's the result of a hit from a heavy blaster. I have assumed that lightsabers do not produce an equivalent steam burst (perhaps the water disintegrates entirely?) simply because if it did, Maul's heart-strike would have blown Qui-Gon in half.
Are you going to be writing anymore SW novels?

He has one coming out later this year, Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor but that's offtopic.
Why don't you PM him?

Note on Qui-Gon: I just watched the scene again, and it looks like he was hit way too low for Maul to have gotten him in the heart. I always asumed he was hit in something else important, like the liver or something else in that area (there's a lot right where he's stabbed) as opposed to Mace, who could easily lose a few intestines without too much difficulty.
And re: Kyle - He's Kyle; does he really even factor into a realism conversation? He isn't bound by things such as mortality!

I just figured she stabbed him somewhere less crucial and the blade may have not gone all the way through.

veamon69 posted: Maybe the blades have a little more mass and heft to them than has been let on. That would explain why they dont just instantly cut through things, there has to be a force behind it.
I think since lightsabers seem to need a Force crystal to work, the glowing stick of light might be some form of slightly Force-altered plasma, but is a such minimum width that unless you put something directly on it, you can't feel the heat. But its still hot enough to be glowy.
I also think that with Qui-Gon getting stabbed in the chest, he could have either been stabbed through the aorta and not through the heart, which is I imagine fatal (but a slow-quick death) if its cauterised, or he might have been using the Force to hang on long enough to speak to Obi-wan.

I agree now that the chances are Depa just put chose an area that wouldn't kill him, by chance or on purpose, although I would have thoughtthe pain woul have made him stop fighting - maybe because he is a powerful Jedi, he can ignore the pain?
I must say thanks to Matt Stover for actually answering, I was impressed that he actually takes the time to answer questions like this.

Pretty sure that it's been canonically-established that the weight of a lightsaber is balanced around the emitter-end to make it at least similar to where a sword would ordinarily be balanced despite the near-weightlessness (near, not absolute mind you) of the blade.
