Okay, now THAT is something I want to see.

Okay, maybe not, since it would drive me to madness. It's something I want to watch SOMEONE ELSE see. That sounds like more fun.

Considering the layout of the Falcon appears to be non-Euclidean, I fully expect the revelation in the MF novel to be that Cthulhu was sleeping in the cargo hold the whole time...

Update: based on bridge-tower scaling, the Venator-class Star Destroyer is roughly 500 meters long.

This isn't a very scientific figure. It's based on the Lego scale model. tongue

The model is around eight feet long, around 250cm. Each bridge pod is six Lego studs wide, and each lego stud measures 8mm, so each bridge pod is 0.8 x 6 = 4.8cm wide.

The standard bridge module is around "ten or eleven metres" wide (SWTC) - not counting the bridge wings, which aren't present here.

The length is approximately 50 times the bridge pod width. 50 x 10 = ~500m!

Of course, there's no guarantee that the is anything close to precisely accurate. tongue I'd be very grateful if anyone has a better scaling of the Venator bridge tower.

Because, if it's anything close to correct, the VenStar dropped abruptly down in the middle of WEG's 400-600m Old Republiuc cruiser bracket, the TFBB just reset itself to something much closer to its designed size, and a lot of scales and suppositions from the Prequel material would have to be recalculated.

Interestingly, the interview with the builder at "From Bricks to Bothans" reveals that the Republic Attack Cruiser was originally scaled by ILM at "4,485 feet", before being pegged at "3,730 feet" in ICS. I'm not quite sure what conversion formula he's using, but that original designed size seems to be somewhere about ~1365-1370m.

Combind with the script reference, the distinctly curved bridge interior could suggest that there's an Imperial-class ship off-camera at the centre of the fleet - which would, presumably, be Moff Tarkin's Exactor.

Tarkin had Executrix, Vader had Exactor.

doh! Conceded. tongue

I would imagine it's entirely possible that the ship in question is neither Vader, Tarkin, nor Palpatine's "personal" vessel. Perhaps instead it's simply the "command ship" of the permanent garrison that protects the nascent Death Star, and the three august personages are simply temporary guests, as taking their "personal" vessels might attract more attention than they care to draw at that particular point.

A bit convoluted, sure, but it seems plausible.

That certainly works if it's a Venator-class ship. If it's an Imperial-class ship, then I think Dark Lord kinda implies that it's likely to be Tarkin's Executrix, because it's the first one on active service, and IIRC, Vader gets the second one during that novel.

No. Stop. Scaling is disallowed. I'm going to take all your rulers away and never give them back.

Well, since the movies are the only source on this topic, you have to accept that Vader and Company are on a Venator... Why? Because of simple cinematic logic:

Establishing shot

Following shot

The same way that we know that this:

Establishing shot

is outside of this:

Following shot

and we don't go around assuming that the house Luke and Ben are in is the one out of frame next to the house shown in the picture, even if the windows don't look quite the same. It's simple filmmaking rules, and a "real-world" answer, I know, but since there is no in-film" or canon source yet, is the only thing we have for now. Maybe later it will be retconned to say that there was other class ships around, but until then...

Anyway, that doesn't give us any clue of the name of the freakin' ship laugh

EDIT: I know Ben's Hut doesn't appear to have any windows at all, it's an example... don't mention it! laugh

Lovecraftian horror is highly exaggerated. To quote someone else, I wouldn't trust a Lovecraftian description of a glass of milk, let alone of alleged cosmic horrors. tongue

The Dark Times comics has Vado aboard an Impstar named Exactor, 3 months after the movie.

I do feel obliged to point out, however, that there is still a difference between the external and internal views.

The outside is composed of five straight segments arranged at approximately forty-five degree angles:

While the inside is curved:

Combind with the script reference, the distinctly curved bridge interior could suggest that there's an Imperial-class ship off-camera at the centre of the fleet - which would, presumably, be Moff Tarkin's Exactor.

However, everyone seems to think that there are specific references to the Imperial command ship here as a VenStar (examples, people?), and we also have repeated appearance in T-canon of VenStars with the same bridge design, all of which tend to support the idea that this is simply a VenStar bridge.

One possible suggestion for the difference.

Depending on the depth of the windows and whether they are uniform thickness, it can be possible for there to be a very angular appearance on the exterior while being curved within.

By being angular on the exterior, it provides a limited profile, and likely simpler repair and refit.

By being curved on the interior, it provides maximum interior surface area for operations and easier field of view.

It's actually a rather smart design...I've seen it in buildings, but I imagine it could be beneficial on a ship.

____________

One other suggestion that I don't think has been considered.

Does the bridge we see have to certainly be "the" bridge on the Venstar? (someone remind me, which side is the command bridge, right or left?)

Perhaps this is a "theater gallery" or observation platform...a special operations bridge, or a fleet operations center on the primary Venstar on Station at the death star.

Perhaps, as we don't see much in the way of support stations near the DS skeleton, primary construction operations are happening on this "secondary" bridge, perhaps it's not even on the control towers at all? Perhaps the technicians in the operations pits are handling construction schedules and quartermaster inventories, not ruddering the ship or raising shields.

So Devaronian females are suppose to have thick fur, eh?
Has anyone seen one outside an essential guide?

Interesting. This image shows two rows of windows on the bridge tower, right below the bridge pod. I don't think they were there before...
