I was just reading Inferno and was staggered to read how Tenel Ka used the Force to get rid of her puffy eyes after she'd been crying. What next? Will Allana use the Force to fight acne?? There was a time when the Force was something mystical and ethereal, but authors these days use it as some sort of everyday tool. The amount of Force nudges the Jedi give each other would really tick me off if I was one of their brigade, "Oi, stop nudging me!" And it's amazing the information they can deliver to one another telepathically. I know Mara and Luke had a strong "Force-bond" but I wouldn't have been surprised to read that "Luke sent Mara a reassuring Force nudge to tell her everything would be alright - and also, when she got home, could she remember to set the oven at gas mark 4 for the chicken, but remember to take the alluminium foil off 15-20mins at the end to crisp the skin." Kinda takes away the mysteriousness of it don't ya think?

It's not new and nonsensical that she's capable of using the Force for such a thing, and she wasn't just doing it for flippant, casual reasons: she's a monarch, remember?

Crying equals weakness equals death in the Hapan political system. I wouldn't call it flippant. tongue

Besides, the Force being mystical and ethereal does not... by any stretch of the imagination... rule out health and beauty benefits to a Force-user. The Force is heavily based on the concept of chi and that's one of the many benefits of chi gung practice... youthfulness and radiant health. Meaning, Alana could definitely use the Force to keep her body's pores from becoming too oily and infected and thus prevent acne.

Well, all kinds of stuff is theoretically possible with the Force. The problem is that stuff like that, manipulating your body's cells and such, ought to take a lot of concentration. It shouldn't be practical.

That, I think, is the biggest problem with power creep. Considering what the Force might be capable of and not what the Jedi can actually concentrate on and practically employ results in overpowering the characters and raising huge "Well, if they can do that, why didn't they do it here and here and here and here and here" issues.

Spot on. mischief

Actually, if use of the Dark Side degrades your longevity and features, shouldn't use of the Light Side add longevity and a healthy glow? Maybe Yoda's species natural death is around six hundred.

Like Master Fay? Obi-Wan said she could have lived forever.

And I think it's demeaning to use the Force in such a way. Remember the scene in AOTC when Anakin plays with his food with the Force and he says Obi-Wan would have been very grumpy, as he should be.

The Force is not a hydrospanner wink

OP: Erm, hello? Mara? She probably used 90% of her force powers to keep wrinkles at bay. Not a noble use of power, IMO.....

Proof that you don't need the Force to be looking good at 60.

applause ^I think it's a perfect use for the Force. Especially if she is looking as hot as she was on the Sacrifice cover drooling . Let's all hope Jaina and Tenel Ka uses it so they can look hot forever grin !

^Now, now, don't be mad hugs . I didn't mean to offend, Nelani.

Besides, Mara, Jaina, and Tenel Ka looking young and beautiful probably has nothing to do with the Force.

True but Fey also was the only Jedi not to use a lightsaber under any circumstances. I gotta give her points for being the only purely pacifist Jedi I can think of.

What's ironic is that Mara was the one who taught Anakin not to use the Force for trivial things like lifting boxes and bartering with the Dantooine natives.

You know, I would not really consider that a conscious use of the force. Just as living a healthy lifestyle will keep you looking pretty good even into advanced age, maintaining a deep connection to the benevolent life-enery of the universe probably does wonders for an aging body, as well.
