I have always thought the above design looked really cool and wished someone would use it outside of Galaxies. Though, if not, it sound like a pretty cool new design.

I cannot remember where I read it, but Invasion is supposed to be right after Vector Prime. So the New Republic has just learned about the threat and the main Vong fleet is just hitting the edge of the galaxy.

Oops...messed up my quote apparently.

I really enjoyed the first issue. The New Jedi Order saga is my favorite in the Star Wars Universe, so it is just a treat to be returning there again. Finn and his family are great characters, and the issue had some great surprises, like Finn's sister killing the Vong, Luke showing up and being a badass, and that the family is royalty. Great stuff and the art was outstanding.

Really excited about this series.

When did Finn know he was Force-sensitive? He seemed surprised when Luke said it, but he was doing that handstand at the beginning.

Interesting, even if a bit too fast. I'm not actually very thrilled with the idea of Finn being royalty, but at least it's royalty on a seemingly unimportant planet.

Luke: Still, I think I make a pretty good Luke Skywalker.
Mara: Of course you do.
Luke: So before you began impersonating Mara, what was your real hair color?
Mara: Farmboy, you're asking for a beating...

It was OK. I'm more interested in the capture and internment of the sister and the mother than Finns jedi training at this point.
So, will #2 be out next month, or is it going to pull a Dark Times...

Finn has to have someone to rescue, right? Who better than a princess and a queen? Plus, its mother and sister so it's personal. I'm curious about Kaye also being Force sensitive.

I thought that myself, but it was pointed out that there really isn't a lack of public knowledge. The Artorians are pretty quick to react, moreso than if they were entirely unaware of even the existence of an invasion, and later, when Luke mentions the Vong, no one asks what that is. I think the only one we've seen explicitly not know about the Vong is the Wookiee.

Luke's comment about the NR being spread thin, too, suggests later than Dark Tide. We'll probably get a better indication of the time frame in later issues, but for now I think I agree with Trip that it's probably around the time of AoC.

No, the helmet is closer to this:

Mixed with your traditional X-Wing pilot helmet. No clam shell to it.

The armor is closer to stormtrooper armor, but a bit more segmented, with light blue underneath instead of the black body glove.

That is pretty cool. Almost wish they had been the Republic troopers for TOR.

Ohh... I remember the old SWG Rebel design... yeah, that was pretty cool. One of the few good things to come out of SWG, actually. Having them in TOR would have been pretty cool, yeah. Oh well.

Finally got my hands on an issue! I enjoyed it. I really like the art. Kind of a guttural style. Really slabby looking figures.

I like that Luke is in there early. Sweet entrance. I liked Kaye and her story right off the bat. My kind of girl. Finn already reminds me of early Zayne. Just a bit. As much as I loved where Dark Tide and Ruin went, I'm not sure I need that kind of darkness in a SW comic at this point so I'm hoping Finn and his training keeps things lighter.

The issue wasn't chock full of surprises. With the hype, two online previews and the preview to this issue, I pretty much had an idea about what I was getting. But they pulled off a first issue well. No faults. Too bad it's not a monthly.

My thoughts through most of the thing were pretty much summed up as "meh, another thing that isn't KOTOR."

Then there were C-3 passenger liners.

If there's even one beautiful panel of continuity porn like that in each issue, Dark Horse will have made up for Axl Skywalker.

I give it a resounding OK. For a first issue it seems solid enough. There weren't too many WOW moments, bt I overall liked it and I'm willing to give it a chance.

I really loved the first two previews of this, but I don't know if this packed the same punch. I liked it, fine, and I was getting into it and then "BAM!" end of issue. Maybe having Luke show up in the first ish and carting off the kid to be a Jedi was a bit of a rush. I would have liked to see a couple issues of just Caled and Finn takin' it to the YV "Hoth style" before Luke jumped in. I was kinda expecting Luke to be this big two-page reveal, and he's all looking god-like and we say "It's Luke!! Awesome!" This was more "Oh, hey, guys, check it. It's that Skywalker guy. Hmph."

But a promising start nonetheless. I'm excited for more. happy

Sounds good so far. happy One question I have is if there was any other Vong military or military tech in this issue? Any Chazrach or normal weapon equiviants?

EDIT:
(Never mind, I checked Wookiepedia and it listed what was in the issue.)

This was something of a let down for me. I really wasn't looking for what we got in any case. What jumped out to me was what an uber warrior Luke Skywalker is. Luke wipes out nine Vong......Vong that are having way to much trouble with the civilian population of this puny planet.

Invasion #1 raises Luke to a higher pedestal, like that was needed.....and devalues the Vong a few notches in my eyes. We don't even get to see a Vong character named or detailed in anyway. They are simply used as fodder for Skywalker's heroics, unable to deal with a couple former soldiers with blasters and thermal detonators.

When I compare this #1 to those of Darktimes and Legacy its very lacking. I'll likely still give #2 a shot but if it doesn't pick up in a hurry I won't be making the investment on a permanent basis.
