I while back I decided that it would be neat to read all the books in the Expanded Universe in order. I started with Darth Maul: Saboteur on May 25, 2008. I didn't read the Darth Bane books because I don't have those. Now I have stopped a couple times since I started in May and read a couple other books in there but then I start right back where I left off. Here is what I've read so far.

Darth Maul: Saboteur
Cloak of Deception
Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Rogue Planet
Outbound Flight
The Approaching Storm
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones
Star Wars Republic Commando: Hard Contact
Shatterpoint
The Cestus Deception
Star Wars Republic Commando: Triple Zero
MedStar I: Battle Surgeons
MedStar II: Jedi Healer
Star Wars Republic Commando: True Colors
Jedi Trial
Yoda: Dark Rendezvous
Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Labyrinth of Evil
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Star Wars Republic Commando: Order 66
Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader
Mist Encounter (Short Story at the end of Outbound Flight)
Jedi Twilight
Street of Shadows
Patterns of Force
The Paradise Snare

I am currently reading The Paradise Snare.

I am wondering has anyone else out there done this before and how long did it take you?

A couple people have done different types of read-throughs, though many center around the entire EU (reading all the comics, books, short stories, etc in order) or specific series (the Marvel comics have had a few issue-by-issue thread attempts over the years).

For example, Rogue 1.5's project is taking on all the EU (minus the games, it seems) material. He started over 4 years ago and only just now is in the period of time building up to AOTC (there were a lllllllllllllllllllot of TPM tie-ins and adaptations).

Narrowing things down to the novels is a but more manageable, but would depend on how fast one reads and how much free time they have to read. Many years ago when I was trying to catch up to the new releases of the NJO series, I read the first 8 or 9 books in a period of 2 or 3 months. Nowadays, I'm lucky if I have the time to finish one in a month wink

I'm the type of person that likes to 'keep track' of certain story details, and when I committed to it I started by reading the stories (of what I had) chronologically to sift them for information.
Stuff like the Black Fleet Crisis took forever, while something like The Crystal Star was re-read in an hour or so - if even that.

Honestly, there's just too many books, and in the grand scheme of things most of the Prequel stuff just doesn't interest me. If I read EU, it's usually just post-ROTJ stuff.

Best of luck to you though!

I will admit that this is taking a lot longer then I thought it would. The longest it took me to get A book done was 38 days (The Approaching Storm) but there was a lot of other things going on in my life around that time. The quickest I got though one (not counting e-books or short stories) was 5 days (Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader). On average it is taking me about 19 days to read a book.

It depends on how long I've been waiting for the book to come out. Like Omen, I read it in 5 hours.

I've been doing a similar thing, but with no real chronology at all. I started on the EU approx 2 years ago w/ the thrawn trilogy and have since bought approx 200 EU books and 100 comic trades. I've read about 90% of what I own, but its really been in no order whatsoever. I read LotF before I read NJO...I've jumped between Clone Wars books and Bantam EU novels...I've switched between comics and junior readers...etc.

All said, though, i wish i had amassed the books earlier or in chronological phases so I could follow some sort of timeline or theme. Would have probably been a bit more enjoyable...

I already owned most of the books and have already read them atleast once before. Some of the times I've stopped reading in order is because I got a new book in there that I hadn't read before like The Force Unleashed and Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor. The first book I had to buy because I didn't have it already was Republic Commando: True Colors. And I will have to go back sometime and read the newer Clone Wars books (Wild Space, & No Prisoners). I skipped them because I'm not exactly sure were to put them in the timeline. Pretty soon I am going to have to go out and buy the three Lando books. Those are the next thing I don't already have.

Yeah....back in 2005 a couple of friends and I went to see a little movie called Revenge of the Sith. One of my friends mentioned that there were Star Wars books beyond the movies (which we so love), and we thought why not split our money and read them all. Of course we had no idea what we were getting into. Started with Cloak of deception and went in order, reading new books that fit previously into the timeline as they came out, and I finished what was out in early spring of 2008. One friend is almost through the NJO and the other one is almost to ANH. Now everyone laughs at us, because we get so excited for "New Book Day".

I'm currently working through all the SW material published, that is canon. I don't have any real rhyme or reason behind it, no specific order I'm following. The only pattern i try to follow is to do series or publications in chronological order. So, I don't care if the comic book KOTOR comes before Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter, but I will try to read the novels that take place before DM: SH in the proper order, and continue on down the line. Same with comic series, I don't care when the actual series take place, but the stories within the series I am reading in chronological order.

I'm also writing reviews of everything I read/watch/play/hear, check out the blog in my sig if anyone cares to follow the progress.

So did I... Started last year and read everything of interest to me (I skipped a lot of the Bantam Stuff and most of NJO and LOTF), including the comics. As far as my eclectic taste is concerned, I'm caught up now. I liked most of it, and there is some stuff I love^^. But I suppose for a true readthrough tongue I also didn't snark enough^^.

I did it starting from TTT up until present. I skipped a few tho like the young reader novels and a handful that didn't directly relate to the plot..or at least relate enough to make it worth while (ex: I quit Millennium Falcon halfway through since I thought it was boring as all hell lol)
I can't remember how many in total but it was in the high 40s or low 50s I did that in under 6 months (can't remember this exactly either) but I'm an extremely fast reader when I want to be.

same here peace aside from the comics and the proposed Plagueis novel I'm not particularly interested in the period. Although I do plan on reading Darth Bane books. At the moment tho I'm waiting to read the first 2 until right before the 3rd one comes out so I can go through them all non-stop

Looks very interesting. I've been thinking about doing a read-through and blogging on it for over half a year, but I haven't gotten around to starting. tongue

I was the same way, and then one day I decided to give it a go. It's been a lot of fun so far, it's a daunting task but it gives me someplace to post my thoughts after I experience these items. No offense to TFN, but they close the topics so fast around here that unless you are involved in the discussion of a book when it happens you're never able to share your thoughts on said book. This allows me to do it and I have fun with it, hopefully at least someone has fun reading my inane ramblings.

My thoughts exactly. Your blog, your soapbox. Although I might worry about whether anyone would read mine or not.
