They are killing my man Jag.

I was pretty excited when Luke named him to lead the Imperial Remnant, I could feel the character growth and conflict right around the corner. Then Fate of the Jedi starts and I'm confused.

First he goes from being Mr. Duty and Honor to , hey let me play spy games and capture Jedi and break the law, but wait I can't tell you that secret...I'm Mr. Duty and Honor. Anyone else lost there?

What's really killing me though is his so far letting the Moffs walk all over him along with Han. Most likely his character will start getting tougher soon, but I hate having to wait and watch him like this. I guess I just had to vent.

I think they're trying to make him a more rounded and three-dimendsional character, instead of the flat Captain Cardboard.

I personally like the change. I always saw Jag as being a bit too predictable.

I think the change in Jag's character is a natural evolution. People change as they get older, we grow-up and mature. The type of responsibilities that Jag has had put on his shoulders in a short amount of time require that he change some boundries and handle himself differently. He's a politician now - not a figher pilot, and that requires a whole other set of skills. Although, I'd imagine that he uses a lot of what he learned as a pilot in his new profession, and, Fel is certainly intelligent and savvy enough to know how to do that.

So, yeah, I think that by the time Jag is crowned there will be significant changes from the character we were introduced to in Dark Tide. And as an Ultimate-Jagged Fel-Fan I don't have a problem with that, in fact, I expect it. As long as they stay true to the basic nature of the character I don't mind if they 'muddy' him up a little. One can not be an effective ruler and be a nice guy all the time. Will we ever see Jag as hardened and 'gray' (if you will) as 137 aby Roan Fel? I don't think so given what we know of his reign, but we could definately see Jag mirror a 130 aby Roan, in fact, I'd bet on it. happy

</Jag> I AM the Empire. love

Oh... yeah. drooling

This makes an interesting comparison to his GA counterpart. Admiral Stazi may be the last hope for the GA, but he tries to act as though he is no different from any other freedom fighter, that the cause is what is important, not him.

Except that the "I AM The Empire" is true, insofar as Roan is in fact the Emperor. Everything within an Empire belongs to the Emperor, for all intents and purposes.

I'm sure GAJ can say this much better than I can.

Yes, Emperor Fel really is in a surprisingly tough spot because he's not fighting for an ideology but himself.

I dunno, I think, 'the Sith are freaking evil and need to be destroyed' is a passable start, ideologically.
wink

I'm interested to learn how the powers of the new Imperial throne came into being, for the record. As SCIF, Gilad Pellaeon could bully the civilian government into toeing the line by 'federalizing' their armed forces and stripping them of their power bases through which they enforced their regional rule. As head of state, he seems to have had a much more direct political influence.

Fast-forward to Roan Fel--the Emperor in fact and name--and his authority most closely mirrors an Old Republic supreme chancellor (according to the Atlas) and he doesn't have the constitutional ability to declare war...

Urgh. Some Emperor Roan is. tongue

Although I'm expecting him to have the Moffs executed at the end of the war for treason, which would leave the Empire an obviously much-changed place, particularly in terms of the Emperor's powers.

Plus of course, there's the still-loyal Imperial forces like the 501st that have ignored the moffs and declared loyalty to the Emperor.

This is an imaginary story... aren't they all supposed to fit together, though?

I wonder which Moffs (with their heads!) will be 'dealt with' so to speak. As far as I recall, the only two that were directly collaborating with the Sith were Nyna Calixte and Moorlish Veed. The rest of the High Council just pressed for war in the first place and would up in over their heads. Then there're the Moffs that don't sit on the High Council... Presumably, at least some of them have remained loyalists.

It's interesting to note on the map of the 137 ABY galaxy that the loyalists' holdings are more or less carved from the heart of original Imperial space. Roan Fel only seems to have lost some of his more Core-ward systems and sectors to the usurpers' treachery. I submit that most of the original pre-Sith-Imperial War Moffs remained loyal to the Emperor, and the ones appointed to govern occupied GA sectors seem to have been more prone to defection.

Then there's the High Council, of course...

Just to point out: Fel wasn't very concerned about fair-handed punishment for that one ship that defected-he had the whole crew executed, didn't he?

I see the entire High Council getting whacked.

The crew of the Dauntless was in the back of my mind. Though if the Chiss were hiding Roan Fel from the initial Sith manhunt, at least one of their number might not get shot in the face.

Ehh...maybe. If he's very lucky.

Or if he's Thrawn in disguise. tongue

Although what I'd really like is for Roan and Calixte to be Baneite Sith Lords who, after the One Sith have gotten damaged enough by their war with the GA, unleash the might of the Empire and crush their ideological enemies into the ground. Ideological enemies who, by the way, just conquered the galaxy for them. tongue
