Have we ever been given a reason why none of Luke's Force ghost mentors ever gave him any kind of warning that Palpatine wasn't dead-dead?

Might as well ask why none of Luke's Force mentors warned him about:

-The Yevetha

-The Yuuzhan Vong

-The One Sith

-The Lost Sith

-Force psychosis

-The Gorog Dark nest

-Kevin J. Anderson

I'm still miffed that Anakin Skywalker (or Solo) never appeared to Jacen to give him a good talking-to about his Sithdom. not_talking

How dare they! grin

Maybe it's something akin to the Ancients in Stargate SG-1 & Atlantis? Like, those from the netherworld of the Force have the power to influence the Galaxy, but are under very strict guidelines not to? The Ancients allowed countless wars to come and go; they could stop it, but chose non-interference. The same may go for those that are One with the Force. Strict discipline for Obi-Wan not to just appear before Luke on Yavin 4, reach his hand toward the sky, and pull the Death Star apart a la Dr. Manhattan.

yeah, it almost looks like Obi-Wan forgot one sentence when talking to Vader:
"if you strike me down i'll become more powerfull than you can possibly imagine. Except it won't do me much good since all i'll be able to do will be to sit in a log and have a chat with your son..."

Forget the ghosts, why doesn't Luke or one of his Jedi have their own visions of the future?

What kind of teachers would those dead guys be if they just kept giving Luke all the answers? What kind of Jedi would Luke be? How weak would the Jedi be as a whole if they relied on someone else all the time? What kind of crappy stories would we have if Luke got a heads-up on everything? Yoda and Obi Wan fought to bring Palps down and trained Luke to carry on the Jedi torch and finished the job post mortum. End of story.

Specifically for DE Luke is a Jedi Master by then and not a padawan learner. Plus, Luke had Leia and the beginings of his new Order. Why do they need to stick around?

Obi-Wan sticks around during the Trilogy because Luke is not a full-fledged Jedi yet. He leaves in The Thrawn Trilogy because it is time for Luke to use what he has learned and make it on his own. If Obi-Wan showed up and interfered or answered all of Luke's questions for him, then Luke would never be able to become the Jedi Master he is.

It is my secret hope that whenever Luke comes to the end of his life, Obi-Wan appears to him one last time and tells him why he hasn't spoken to him since that day on the balcony on Coruscant, and that he's proud of him.

For that matter, you could just as easily why Qui-Gon didn't appear to Obi-Wan, Yoda, or Anakin at some point during the prequels? A little Force-hint along the lines of "Hey, this clone army's going to be the death of you" or "Hey, the Chancellor's not who he says he is. Maybe you should investigate?"

But maybe he left his best advice prior to his death: "Your focus determines your reality"--keeping one's focus being something neither Anakin nor the Jedi Council nor the Senate nor the peoples of the galaxy were good at doing.

Sidious, of course, had no problem doing so. tongue

OBI-WAN: Qui-Gon spoke to me last night.
MACE: (surprised) What did he say?
OBI-WAN: He just kept saying the same thing over and over: "ORDER 65... ORDER 65..."
MACE: What is Order 65?
OBI-WAN: (checks menu) Bruallki, Bruallki and Menkoroo.
They SHRUG.

Guh. Order 65 irritates me so much.

Fact: Palpatine controlled a supermajority in the Senate.

Fact: Order 65 required a two-thirds majority to be implemented.

...Yeah, this is gonna work. tongue

How is that author-bashing?

Apparently having a sense of humor isn't allowed, either.

That's funny, considering my hardback copy of Darksaber is without a doubt one of my most cherished SW-related posessions. My comment was merely a reference to the fact that KJA liked superweapons. It was intended to be a joke. KJA was always good about including Ackbar in his novels and giving him some depth, so I happen to admire that bit about him.

Perhaps being a little less sensitive would help? plain
