D'oh... which one is answered, or partially?

the Millennium Falcon part and the why/how they got captured bugs me most. I want a Prequel clearing that up... and featuring Lando, too! Or a Sequel in which they get the Falcon back and need to find it.

Not through the book yet but will be tomorrow wink

Prequel wishes:
-Story of the SDS and Plague Origin
-Han & Chewie get captured by the same SDS and Falcon is transferred off
-Planet of Origin of the Plague and what happened to the planet? Is there more of the plague? what if a whole planet gets infected and gets a Base Delta Zero, then the SDS on orders of Vader moves towards the Unknown Regions to destroy the last plague rests there but only the Bridge crew knows what really happened.
-Plague spreads on SDS

Sequel wishes:
-Han & Chewie search for the Falcon and trace its route
-NO Plague but different kinds of horror from Anzati to other well known horrific GFFA stuff (Atrocities of the Empire, brutal Alien Species, scary hive of scum and villainy they have to get through to find clues about the Falcons whereabouts... not a big plague but lots of minor stuff and maybe a general threat overall for the plot that is not as dominant as zombies. maybe shadowy enemies tracking and following our Raiders of the Lost Falcon (Noghri Hit Squad, Blood Carver, Anzati, Kowakian Deathwrestler, whatever)
-cameos of Hoole, Zak and Tash Arranda as companions
-Lando cameo
-Falcon found in posession of an old friend/rival of Han, showdown

We get a very little about the origin of the plague and what the characters are doing afterward. Not particularly satisfying on either one though, IMO.

I just read it, and I had to work on keeping my dinner down at times. The last time I had that kind of reaction was when I watched that prequel video for that Dead Space game that was on once on SyFy channel. The chapters could have been longer, but frankly, I don't think I would want this book to have a larger page count. Schriber's writing style is very good, but I don't think I'm ever going to read this novel again. And that's the second Star Wars novel I have that opinion of. The first is Star By Star, and it was the torture scenes that made me cringe. I think I'm going to be drinking water for the rest of the night. Hope I can sleep tonight without any nightmares. Del Rey, you made a mistake releasing this book when you did. You should have swapped it with Imperial Commando: 501st. This... this was a Halloween book through and through.

The ending was open, but frankly, I think Trig and Cody will either retire and settle down some place quiet, or join the Rebellion to bring an end to the Empire that would allow the existence of this virus.

I loved it grin

The only thing I hope for is, that if they make a sequal, they don't include any characters that you know will have to survive (like Han and Chewie). frustrated

The sequel should have Jax Pavan and Ahsoka. It should have them turn into zombies and it should end with them eating each other.

I absolutely LOVED the novel and the unabridged audiobook (with some rather gross sound effects that Jimmy Mac mentioned in the latest MicroCast).

Here is a link to my latest episode of The Dark Side Chats, in which I attend the very first night of Joe Schreiber's book signing tour, where he was also inducted (to his surprise) as an honorary member into the 501st"

Edit: I forgot to ask, did they ever explain what that undead scientist was trying to say and scribble on the floor in his moment of half-lucidity to Zahara?

They never mentioned what he was trying to say...I sure can't figure it out. However, what he scribbled on the floor was 'Blackwing' - which Zahara used as the password to access the computer in the hangar control room...which of course never mattered, since the zombies already had turned off the tractor beam to escape the ship

I thought this book was great =) The Han/Chewie appearance was a big surprise for me, and made me happy...they were very well introduced.

Also, is it just my limited knowledge of sw lit, or was this like the first time we ever read text from Chewbacca's POV? Most of the authors in SW books just used him as a big furry guy that would grunt/howl every now and then, it was nice to see Schreiber intelligently use him.

This was just all-around a new and refreshing look at the Star Wars galaxy...no typical lightsaber action, no typical spaceship fights. While reading the book and discovering more and more the backstory of the Empire's 'weapon' - it reminded me of playing Dark Forces...Kyle Katarn investigating the Empire's secret DarkTrooper project. It's nice to know that there's more to Star Wars than 'the Force'.

I found this to be the most enjoyable Star Wars book since Darth Bane: Rule of Two....which came out in Dec 2007, roughly two years ago.

Looking forward to the prequel!!

On a side note - wouldn't it be great to have this virus pop up in the Legacy era? C'monn...you know you want a zombie Darth Caedus...search your feelings, you know it be true!

I'm into Chapter 3 or so of the book and I like it so far. grin

After Legacy of the Force, that I never finished because it was bad, it looks like LucasBooks did something good here. happy

Black Fleet Crisis had a lot of Chewie's POV, and Crispin's Han trilogy has some here and there.

Is there any relation to this virus and the Hive viruses like hit the Katana Fleet?

I got the audiobook version of Death Troopers, thanks to Jimmy Mac's recommendations, and I have to say that I loved it. The descriptions and sound effects were vivid and terrifying to me. I often listen to audiobooks in my free time at meals and between classes, although I quickly learned with this book not to eat and listen at the same time!

I am a fan of Star Wars and Zombie literature both, and I was pleased with Death Troopers in both of these areas. Prior to this, I had just finished reading the Legacy of the Force series, which I loved, and had just given up on a book called Zombie Chronicles, which was awful. Both of these left me starving for some good Star Wars and zombie material, and I was not disappointed.

Ostensibly, Han and Chewie might have taken away some of the thrill of anticipation, but I thought it was a good crossover. It was certainly better than inserting a Jedi or something, which would have been a mistake. Really, we're left wondering about Cody, Sartoris, and the Longo brothers for most of the book. Even though they had some chapters from their POV, I really felt as if Han and Chewie were second-tier character. Perhaps Sartoris fell into this category as well. At any rate, I feel like the book did a good job of playing around with Cody and the Longo brothers, and surprising us with who lived and who died in that respect.

I'm looking forward to the next book, although I'm confused about what it is. I heard it was a standalone, but someone on here suggested it was going to be a prequel?

Perhaps it will use some characters from the Purge, but in a different situation. Zombie sequels and prequels don't sound like a solid plan to me.

I really liked this book! Great suspense, story, and characters. The suspense let down closer to the end for me, but it was good all around I thought.
