It, unfortunately, does leave room for a potential sequel. Unfortunate not because I did not thoroughly enjoy the book and not because I do not like the author, but unfortunate because I feel that we do not need a Zombie-plot rehash. It becomes unoriginal and boring with too much repetition.

According to Sue Rostoni's blog, Schreiber's second book won't be a sequel, but another standalone.

Maybe that's what happened to most of the Yuuzhan Vong after NJO. They met the Death Troopers.

Ugh. I don't know what's more embarassing: the fact that I knew (or at the least, suspected) that, or the fact that I knew (or suspected) that, but asked about it here anyway.

Well, I have finished Death Troopers and it was definitely unlike any other SW book I have read. It was creepy, gory, disturbing, and intense. I am really curious to see how this book does. I thought it was a very good read, but this is the type of book that either appeals to you, or it doesn't, regardless of the fact that it is SW.

Well, according to an interview with Joe posted on StarWars.com, the book is already written and it is a prequel to Death Troopers.

Or maybe a Hannibal type crossover...or given the popularity if vampire lit. an Anzati story. LOL.
I just finished reading. That was pretty intense for SW!

I just finished the novel. Intense. Very, very intense. Joe Schreiber is definately an extremely talented author. Just the amount of sheer emotion he was able to pack into a single sentence was astounding. It was creepy, it was gory, and it was violent. It was also pretty touching and very deep at times, with some moral questions that Star Wars hasn't really approached before, at least not on this level. I was pleasantly surprised, and will be sure to buy the prequel or sequel or whatever it is. tongue

Twenty years ago, there was another Edward with a strange disposition and even stranger hair that the ladies swooned over. This Edward had scissors for hands, but he was much, much cooler.

I was actually pretty annoyed when Han and Chewie appeared. I had been going "at least they're not trying to drag in a bunch of main characters in this story"... and then suddenly they came in out of nowhere. plain

And it was way too short. 234 pages? Really? Combine it with Omen, and the two together are barely constitute a decent length novel. plain

Other than that, it was decent enough I suppose.. though I don't really care for horror stories. (SW zombies? Really? Seriously?)

I finished the book yesterday.

As a huge fan of both zombies and Star Wars, I had very high hopes for the book, and for the most part, I wasn't let down. It was definitely gory and creepy in the sense of a zombie story, but it really didn't feel like Star Wars to me.

Other than that, the length is definitely a problem. I finished reading and thought "That's it?!" I was actually extremely disappointed with how there could have been so much more in the book. It was seriously lacking on a few levels. There really wasn't much plot either, all 234 pages, well after they move to the SD, the only thing they do is turn off the tractor beam so they can leave. I wish that there was just something MORE. As cliched as it would have been, I was hoping that someone would cross paths with a scientist involved with Blackwing Another thing I didn't like was how short the chapters were. If you cut out all of the blank spaces at the beginning and ends of chapters, the book could be easily crammed into 200 pages, which makes the price of $24 outrageous. And another thing, I really did not like the way certain character's deaths were handled, Kale's to be exact. He was just a kid. Too gruesome.

I did like that the zombies were able to adapt and learn as they progressed through the 10 weeks they were on the SD. And anything with Han and Chewie is great.

And I wasn't sure about it, I remember descriptions indicating both, but were the zombies traditional zombies, or the newer "28 Days/Weeks" fast zombies?

With enough soap you could blow up the whole world.
On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.

The zombies didn't seem all that slow or lumbering. It depended on what state the corpse was in, it appears. Most zombies in film and literature can't crawl after people through ventilation shafts, for example. These zombies also maintained a modicum of intelligence. They even used bait, sending out the baby wookiee zombie to lure prey to the adult wookiee zombies. That's more than instinctual thinking.

I wanted Han and Chewbacca to blow up the SSD, or send it on a one-way trip into the sun, or hyperspace, or anything but just leave it there. The zombies will go dormant like the ones in the lab did and just wait for the next group of hapless victims to come along. You remember the ones in the lab that reanimated when the lady doctor found them, right?

That was my problem with the book, it was short. But the rest was awesome
