Some new juvie stuff from Scholastic for June 2010 (so it will be out late May 2010):

Star Wars: Adventures in Hyperspace # 1: Fire Ring Race
http://www.amazon.com/Adventures-Hyperspace-Fire-Ring-Race/dp/0545213584/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1256752927&sr=1-11

Before they met with Luke and Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine, the closest Han Solo and Chewbacca came to galactic politics was a few choice maneuvers around Imperial blockades. Instead, their life was spent rambling through the Outer Rim, flying fast, and taking quick jobs to get from place to place-along with a few close calls along the way!
This new series follows Han and Chewie throughout this time in fully-illustrated, easy-to-read lighthearted adventures, created especially with young readers in mind.

Star Wars: Adventures in Hyperspace # 2
http://www.amazon.com/Adventures-Hyperspace-2-Star-Wars/dp/0545213592/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1256752927&sr=1-12

doh! It's already hard enough to find space to fit Han Solo and the Hollow Moon of Khorya and Death Troopers into the gaps in Crispin's trilogy. The more pre-ANH Han stories there are, the harder it's going to be. worried

"Adaption" is not an English word.
Ahsoka is annoying; seeing "Ashoka" typed is even more annoying.
"Begs the question" does not mean "raises the question"

That was my first thought as well, but I am quite looking forward to this new series, although it appears to be for younger readers than the current juvie-series. And regarding timeline-placements, we'll make it fit!!!

I was thinking the same thing. If Tocneppil shows up in this book, that'd be even more awesome.

Amen and agreed. Only narrow time period that this fits is during a period in the Hutt Gambit where Han and Chewie were off doing... stuff. Plus, Han can't be younger than 21 or 22 or so. Make him younger and the Crispin series is in trouble.

As much as I'm interested in this prospective series, I have to agree that it might not be a good idea continuity wise. There's already enough of that problem going on with the Clone Wars. Why add to it?

Now, if this series were to expand on something that had already been established, then that might not be such a bad idea. What do I mean by this? The perfect example would be Outbound Flight. There was a brief reference to it in the Thrawn Trilogy. It appeared again in the Hand of Thrawn duology. Then again in Tatooine Ghost. We finally got all the details in Survivor's Quest and Outbound Flight. If they decide to use this series to expand on some adventures that Han and Chewie had, but we've only heard about in a reference, then that wouldn't be so bad.

Ah, there are always gaps in Crispin's trilogy. It's pretty much infinitely stretchable.

Yeah, there's a fair amount of wiggle room and anyway, I long ago gave up on having a coherent, non-contradicting timeline of the pre-ANH Han and Chewie stories, much like the Yavin-to-Hoth period.

I like Han & Chewie stuff, but continuity is important, I hope they know that. Crispin is too good to be retconned away or be discarded!

And the more fans say they gave up on coherent timelines the more the officials will ignore timeline issues! I know it is hard to make sense of anything there but do not give up or at last do not admit it tongue wink

The Clone Wars
2-0 BBY Han & Chewie
0-1 ABY Big Three

these three are all a mess, but have so nice stories that I want them all to fit!

I'd only let some stories be thrown out into Infinities if they open up officially an Infinity Universe with its own coherent tales, like Star Wars 2.0 paralell to the current EU going on, separated through logos and other markers. Though... keep my money in mind.. I want everything but can only afford so much.

The Clone Wars isn't nearly as bad because it's far newer than the other two (i.e. less stories) and basically you just have two sets of mutually incompatible but internally consistent data to mesh (the 2002-05 stuff and the 2008-present stuff) rather than thirty years of odds and ends to puzzle together.

The Han and Chewie timeline isn't too badly off at this point, and there have been a lot of adventures referred to but never seen. It looks like this new series will run with some of them, like the Fire Rings of Fornax. Crispin's novels cover a long period of time with lots of gaps for new stories.
