The info was mostly general; the ships weren't even given name-class appellations, just "Sith fighter," etc. IIRC. Some of the other Dark Side information was interesting, but still general.

T2Q: Funny you should mention that, I was just thinking of such an idea. I think it would be great fun to change a single GoDV book into something with the size and depth of, say, Moby Dick, footnotes and all.

Come to think of it, there that one white whaladon and an obsessive Imperial captain... tongue

‘Loo-my-ah,” yeah. My version is “Loo-mee-ya.” It always makes me smile when I hear people’s individual pronunciations of characters we’re familiar with only via print. For instance, Tim Zahn pronounces C’baoth, Say-Bee-Oth, which is pretty far from anything I had imagined.

Other pronunciation preferences: Ss-boe-th, Pal-puh-tyne (thank Anthony Heald for that one), Exar Kuhn. My Sate Pestage rhymes with “collage.”

Exactly--I use "loo-mee-ya" as well, since it closely fits the etymological structure of the word.

Though yeah, there are a lot of interesting pronunciations out there. I've heard quite some curious ones, down to "zit-zing-Ee" for Zsinj.

I use "kuh-both[as in Mothma's pronunciation of Bothan]" for C'baoth.

Collage? Interesting, that does put more of a fluid French pronunciation to his name. I use a flat "pes-tedge".

The fact is Shira Brie accomplished something that no other Imperial was able to do.

Destroy Luke Skywalker.

Oh, you're right. I'm sorry, I was under the mistaken impression that "destroy" meant "ruin completely," "do away with," "kill," or "defeat completely." I didn't realize that it meant "temporarily turn into a social outcast" or "cause to feel really bad about himself." Luke must be pretty amazing, what with defeating Darth Vader and the Galactic Emperor and going on to resurrect the Jedi Order -- all after Shira Brie had already "destroyed" him. Apparently destroying someone consists of being shot down by him.

That's a pretty damn fine measure of actual ability.

What, the fact that she "destroyed" Luke so thoroughly that he was exonerated and reinstated in a matter of days? Yep, that's one impressive measure of actual ability, all right. Do remember that Brie only managed to discredit Luke by being shot down by him in "Screams in the Void."

As soon as the novelty of her light whip wore off, Luke humiliated her in "Duel with a Dark Lady!" Even a suicidal Baron Tagge put up a better fight in "In Mortal Combat!" -- which is pretty sad, considering that he couldn't even use the Force. At least he jumped over Luke's lightsaber when he swung it at him, as opposed to Lumiya, whose martial arts training evidently taught her that the best way to deal with an opponent wielding a lightsaber is to run directly into it.

I’ve had something in the works to make up for the ambiguities concerning the Prophets in the Grand Admirals piece (i.e. Kadann’s death). Hopefully, I can push that through at Insider later this year.

In the meantime, expect some prophetic moments in the upcoming parts of the Dark Forces series at the Wizards website.

Har har. wink

Translations and adaptations are some of my favorite literary subject matter, so I sure wouldn’t mind, though a continuation of those books actually appeals to me more. The early New Republic era is my favorite in Star Wars, followed by the early Old Republic.

I’ve toyed with the idea of proposing an rpg scenario that picks up where Prophets of the Dark Side leaves off, though until recently, there wasn’t a reliable outlet for proposing those kinds of projects.

Clearly a student of the Balboa school of thought.

Thank you Rogue, a flattering comparison, though Melville did with infinite more finesse and greater scope what I do in my little corner of Star Wars.

No real plans to do a Mobyesque take on the Glove of Darth Vader series, but if you've read part 3 of the Dark Forces Saga at wizards.com, you've already seen the return of the Prophets of the Dark Side in a quite sinister role. And bringing this back on topic, you'll also find the brief return of the Emperor's Hand Arden Lyn in the Adventure Seed included with that part. Look for other loose ends of the Emperor's Pawns to continue to be addressed in future Dark Forces installments.

For folks interested at the process behind some of my Star Wars writing, you can check the informal essay "The Anatomy of a Ret-Con," which takes a look at the premature "death" of Count Dooku in Clone Wars era EU:

There was an easy way to deal with that. It's a game; just say you beat him, and Dooks runs to fight another day.

Sometimes bodies disappear when you play KOTORs. Does that also need explaining? tongue

Which became not-so-easy when the developers said they were told to kill Dooku wink

Told to kill Dooks? I thought they asked if they could, and got assent.

Original post 2+ yeras ago fom the programmer

"Yes. killed. We asked them over and over about this. Are you sure? Killed? Really? Their answer was always yes. You can use Dooku as the final boss and dispatch him."

Generally speaking, in video game metaphysics enemies only disappear when you "kill" them.

That said, the bigger problem, though more subtle, is one of a premature climax, i.e. Anakin not only facing but defeating Dooku prior to Episode III.

Best,
Abel

Well, you see it's not that their becoming one with the Force. Actually, it's because there are the little bugs the size of ants running around in the billions that eat flesh and bone, but only after a character is dead. You can't see them because they'd be barely a millimeter in length in the real world, but in the computer game their not even half a pixel in size. But you do have to be careful of them cause, well despite being programmed to be scavengers they sometimes get so hungry that they attack living player characters too.

An elegantly gruesome solution, Knight.

Incidentally, an homage to Moby Dick has already been paid in the Star Wars universe in Gilbert Austin Tales story, Kessel Run. "Call me Squishmael." What a hoot!
