If you listen to talk radio the Harry Potter backlash is getting hot and heavy.People calling up the Mike Gallager show saying Potter (and some people said Star Wars) MAGIC can only lead to satan worship.I almost laughed when I heard this.Do you think Star Wars will suffer the same fate?

Star Wars being satanic is based on a person’s point of view. In a certain way it is if you are a Christian being that all things that are not from God are satanic and the force is based on Buddha if I remember correctly. Harry Potter with all the wizardry and its target audience pointed at a younger crowd it will influence them in ways that human psychologists probably don’t know of yet; I’m not saying it is going to be a large influence but just a little one. And it would be better if they where not influenced in that way at all.
Star Wars probably won’t suffer the same fate because A) its pointed at a older crowd B) it already has been called satanic before and it hasn’t don’t any thing to it’s popularity yet.

Give me a feakin' break. SW and Harry Potter are fairy tales in a sense. Mythology. Stories like this have been around forever. Someone tries to put a new spin on it and they are encouraging satanic ungodly things? ::rolls eyes:: Only arrogant close minded people think that way, not reasonable ones, and a normal child knows fact from fantasy.

I can see the people who think that....grandma takes their kids costume shopping for Halloween and the kid comes back as a devil, complete with horns and a plastic pitchfork. Those people would go into conniptions.
No, I do not believe that they are satanic, and even if some of the imagery can be considered to be so, it is so far out there that it is not even worth worrying about. Also those people in general (thinking of a member named TrueJedi who posts allot on the phantom menace board) do not know any information about what Satanism really is (I don’t know much either). There are people who fill the stereotypical image of the satin worshiper, but those people are by far not the bulk of that population. If I hear of some instance where some kid became satanic in a really bad way, and they say that HP or Star Wars made them do it, then I will reconsider...

Which is fine Valiento, as long as one gets the same in return and people aren't trying to censor things from school libraries because they do not approve of it. I have no problem with anothers belief unless is thrust on others because they feel it's their right. I'm Catholic and went to Catholic school most of my life, I'm not trying to turn the world unto Catholicism. It would be a waste of time anyhow.  Sturm was just joking around. If a person is so uptight they take an off hand comment so seriously then that's their problem.

Umm, I'm in agreement with you, censorship is rotten, and forced beliefs is as well.
If someone states their oppinion they aren't forcing a belief right? It's there right to say whatever they like.
Besides I wasn't pointing fingers at you, I was pointing fingers at people that go about there lives dissing and crapping on christians or other religious groups just because they don't understand or aren't tolerable about what the other group believes. or vicea versa. What might be offensive to one the opposite can be just as offensive to the other.
If you read into my thoughts as they were pointing at you, I have no idea why. I never mentioned any names.
I don't know what you believe and that's not any of my business.
Who's to say my comment wasn't offhand,  .

What really gets me is seeing a blurb on the news about Harry Potter leading kids to devil worship(spelling please), with the people saying it burning the books. BOOK BURNING!!!! And those saying this, and even burning the books, are church groups. I'm sorry, but I find it hard to believe that it would have been alright for them to read something along the same lines as Star Wars or Harry Potter as kids, and it be alright for their kids to read, and it not be satanic when stuff that comes out today is. Just something they don't like so their going to apoint themselves as our conscious(spelling please). Come on, they probably read the Arthurian Legends as kids, or even as adults. And Merlin uses magic plenty of times. Yet his use of magic isn't going to lead to devil worship? Please.

Suuuuuuuurrrrrrreeeeee. So why not Merlin? Oh yeah, his mother was a good Christian, a nun I do believe, who was impregnated by a demon in an attempt to create a powerful wizard to take over the world for the forces of evil. But because of who his mother was, the plan backfired. Please, I don't know if Rowling his discussed religous beliefs or not in her books, but I doubt she has them planning on useing their powers to corrupt folks and undo the works of heaven.
