There has been some question of whether polls should be allowed or not. I’ve put them back on for a limited time for people to gauge how they’re handled this time around. Having seen how polls are currently being used, should they be allowed to remain?

I think polls should be approved by the Lit Forum mods, and should be turned off the majority of the time. During relative lulls, like we'll probably see this winter, where traffic is lighter than around a movie release, I think having them on to promote conversations isn't bad.
On the whole, however, I think people abuse them and they clog the front few pages.

I agree with Lord Bane. Polls always end up starting "(insert random Jedi here) vs (insert other random Jedi here)" threads. It's annoying.

Well, there are ground rules. No vs polls, no favorite character/ship/jedi polls. Look at lit now -- it's hardly out of control, and polls *are* open.
Do you want polls activated or deactivated in Literature?
This is not a yes or no question. . .

I voted no.
For some reason in the Lit board in invites spam.
Keep them in EUC.

As long as they don't degenerate into spam or as long as too many aren't posted, then why not have them?

I like Lord Bane's idea about mod approval before any poll thread can be started. It will keep them to a minimum, yet allow well deserving polls to be seen.

Generally speaking, I’d like them active. It undeniably creates a lot more pruning work for the mods, but things don’t always get out of hand, and they are very beneficial sometimes. They also promote more cordial discussions, in my experience…

Yes, but it needs to be heavily watched by the moderators.
Polls tend to invite spam, be repititious and redundant.
However on the other hand, a poll can be very thought provoking and interesting. That is why it is cool to have them.

Yes. The poll system is a feature that can be very useful, when not abused.

I think that if someone comes up with a good poll idea, they can PM a mod, who can then put it in if it is sensible Otherwise... polls = schpam.
