<i>No longer content with the destruction the Yuuzhan Vong have already sown, Warmaster Tsavong Lah has demanded the heads of all the Jedi. Now the Jedi Knights are in terrible danger–and none more so than the young students at the Jedi academy on Yavin 4. Already the sympathizers known as the Peace Brigade are in the Yavin system–and a Yuuzhan Vong fleet is not far behind.
At Luke Skywalker’s request, Talon Karrde mounts an expedition to rescue the young students. Anakin Solo has his own ideas. Impatient, and figuring that forgiveness is easier to come by than permission, he takes off for Yavin 4 in his X-wing.
When it comes to confidence, courage, and raw Force talent, Anakin has few peers. But when his friend Tahiri is separated from the other academy kids and captured by the Yuuzhan Vong, even Anakin may be in over his head. For the aliens have a different future in mind for Tahiri, and they will stop at nothing to achieve their horrific ends . . .</i>

Greg Keys is in my opinion the best NJO writer. Edge of Vicory 2 is also really good. I really, really, really digged the idea that Anakin would team up with a Yuuzhan Vong guy. I thought it was really cool and it of course has an important effect in latter NJO books.

I really liked this book. I think the characterisations were good. It made a really good read and it kept me on my toes most of the time.

Unliked EOVII, this book does stand out. The interactions between Anakin and Tahiri are choice, plus it gives you a more in-depth view into Anakin, he's not just a spoiled brat, he has problems, he's not perfect, but he thinks that he has to be perfect because of who he is and who he represents.

This book was definatly a keeper. Keyes did wonderous work with Anakin Solo's charater. It showed him growing up. It was also our first in depth look into the vong "Shamed Ones" perspective of things. It left you wondering how many others could have been shamed for political reasons or other various reasons.
However this books strength is that is non-stop action. I read it in under two days, impossible to put down. It was the first book in the NJO I was pleased with since Vector Prime.
Greg.... Yoda Would have been proud

I gave this book a 10. Before I read it I was looking foward to reading it because Anakin had become one of my favorite characters and it sure didn't disappoint. Anyone who is an Anakin Solo fan will probably like this book.

I give this book a 9.
In my opinion, I think Greg Keys is the best author in the NJO. His prose is fast, efficient -- and at times very poetic. He also doesn't feel the need to crush everything with ridiculous adjectives or heavy similes.
I like Stover, Luceno, and Denning, but if they wrote this book, or its sequel, they would've been over 400 pages.

This book is the one that really made me want to get in there and help fight the Vong. Anakin was intense, the Vong were vile, the action was exciting and along with the excellent supporting cast this book developed into one of the best written and engaging NJO entries. Bring on the next one, I can hardly wait.

I was surprised to find that this book was written very quickly as its been one of my favorite of NJO thus far. Maybe it was the focus on Anakin or the return to the familiar setting of Yavin IV and the Jedi academy. Though I haven't read the Junior Jedi Knights story, I really liked his friendship with Tahiri and was counting down the pages to when he reached her again. One moment that really stood out to me was Anakin's moment of introspection while he rebuilt his lightsaber, a debate that seemed similar to the one Jacen had been having, and that the Jedi continued to have in this one. IMO, he came to the obvious conclusion, and I'm glad that he did. It's one of the best moments in the book. His team up with Vua was also interesting to read and gave us quite a bit of insight into YV culture. Great to see our first look at the shapers, Shamed Ones, and the beginning of that Jeedai heresy I've read about.
All that said, the story itself is fast-paced and exciting. Whether they were running and fighting through Yavin's jungles, going up against endless YV warriors in the star-shaped compounds, or that space battle with the eleventh hour arrival of one particular red-colored Star Destroyer, the thrills kept on coming. As much as I enjoyed reading about Anakin, it makes his fate in two books time all the more tragic.
