Confused About the Most Powerful Jedi
|
|
There are a number of web pages that show a list of the most powerfull jedi, begining with Luke Skywalker, Yoda, Obi Wan and then Mace Windu. After watching the movie and the cartoons about the saga, some discuss that yoda should be number one, and mace windu should also be a little higher in the rank. I was hoping that somebody could explain to me with facts, the ranking of the most powerfull jedi of all time. if its possible..

Good question, and an often debated point.
Thing is, there is *no* official list. Anything you've read is either personal opinion, or opinion based on LFL-stamped EU media (eg books etc).
Some sites actual list a midiclorian count list, organising the Jedi using that as a criteria (however, no-one actually knows the true count of any of the Jedi).
You could debate forever about who the most powerful jedi was, but I don't think you can come to any 'real' conclusion.
Was there something particular in the clone wars cartoons that lead you to ask this question ?

nothing in particular really happened on the cartoon, it just came to mind after watching them and the movies, and reading someplace about this same debate.
I agree with you completetly, this is a topic that would go on forever, and thats mainly because theres no official list to discribe them or an official count of midiclorians per jedi, all the lists of the most powerfull jedi are unofficial and personal opinions, mostly based on the prefered jedi for a certain individual.
I myself would like to think that Yoda is the master of all, because he s my favorite..;)
thanks,

Well, Yoda is more powerful than Mace Windu, but Macee is better swordsman than Yoda.
Anakin has more raw potential than Yoda, and if we take Sidious at his word, he would have become more powerful than Sidious or Yoda.
However, I think it was GL who said Vader, due to his injuries, is only 80% as powerful as Palpatine.

Casting aside any fanboy ******** and looking at the straight facts, who gets limbs cut off and who loses fights, Obi-Wan Kenobi is the clear winner.
- Defeats Maul (Qui-Gon couldn't)
- Defeats Grievous
- Holds own against Jango Fett, which even *snigger* Coleman Trebor couldn't.
- Defeats Anakin, the "chosen one".
- Survives the Jedi purge, which only he and Yoda manage.
Obi-Wan did all this without losing sight of the morality of the Jedi. And he had a bad feeling about events all along, when other Jedi spurned him. He knew Palpatine was a bad guy, when others made fun of his political views.
As Jedi go, he's on my pedestal

well I suppose that you could consider that Jedi have different levels of unique skills.
ie Mace might be 'powerful' whereas yoda is 'wise'. Obi-Wan comes in as a good all-rounder

..Mace can hit things. Hard.
..and thats all.
Hes the Darth Maul of the jedi.
Id say Qui-gon, or Yoda, with seemingly far more wisdom of the inner workings of the force were far more "powerful" jedi then Windu could ever hope to be.

All leading indications sem to be that Mace and Yoda were virtual equals, and the two most powerful Jedi in the order. Everyone else comes after them.

I also have to back up the Obi-won argument. Who else has the resume to compete with his list of acomplishments? All around he just got things done.
If you do not want to agree on that agree at least that he is the smartest. Come on he tracked down Jango, the Sepratists, Anakin, defeated Maul with his brains and Anakin. It's all about the high ground, I mean smarts

Well, the Jedi of the time had lost touch with the Force, it all becoming clouded.
And, the original Jedi in the golden age of the Jedi were much better swordsmen than that of the end of the Republic. But not having any specific examples of golden age Jedi to compare with, we have to assume one from the movies.
And as for Obi-wan as the most powerful:
"... powerful enough, you are not."
Yoda, when Obi-wan wants to face Sidious instead of Vader.
And as for Mace being a better swordsman than Yoda, that's up for debate.
Still, I think GL places Yoda, Luke, Vader, and Sidious at the top. Not necessarily in that order.

Well Obi-Wan is definately my favorate Jedi but the only reason he defeated Maul and Jinn did not is because of his extreame adrinaline and anger that he gave in too.
And another key fact is that Yoda and Obi are not the only two to survive the Purge. Several Jedi throughout the galaxy survived, but remained hidden.

I would also add that just because Obi-wan has the most accomplishments doesn't make him the most powerful.
We're talking about pure ability here, not achievements.
For instance, in TPM Anakin clearly doesn't know how to pilot the Naboo N-1 starfighter. The movie goes out of the way to make the point that he's just randomly trying to press buttons. And yet he is the only one that can blow up the Federation ship.
Does that mean he was more skilled in the use of the N-1 than the entire royal navy of Naboo? No. He didn't even understand the controls. It just means he kind of got lucky.
Similarly, yes Obi-wan survived. But did he have to face the same odds as the other Jedi? No, the clones attacked them at point blank range. He was a moving target that was already a long distance away, and was attacked by a relatively inaccurate weapon (artillery). All those things greatly increased the odds of his survival. Or again, did he face Sidious and Anakin, like Mace did? No. Or yet again, just because he managed to finally kill Maul, does that mean that he was more powerful in the Force than Maul? No. Just that Maul started acting stupid/cocky at the end of the duel.

I think that Obi Wan won the duel between him and Anakin only because Anakin made a stupid decision...clouded by anger and hate..to jump ove Obi Wan. Anakin seemed to be winning the duel the whole time in my opinion. Obi Wan got lucky because of a bad decision on Anakins part. Obi Wan himself says earlier that "You are a more powerful Jedi than I could ever hope to be"

Yeah, but in the movies, no eu stuff. I think its both Obi-Wan and Yoda. I'm not going to say the most powerful, becuase being the most powerful dosen't gurantee victory. But most resourceful.

Luke, as he was in ROTJ, wasn't even top 10. At some point years after ROTJ he may become the most powerful ever but it wasn't his power that enabled him to 'win.' He actually got completely thrashed by Sidious. As soon as the lighting came out Luke had ZERO ability to defend against it. Palpatine even referred to Luke's ability as "your feeble skills."
Obi-Wan, Mace, Yoda and Darth Vader all dealt with lightning to different degrees.
In their primes I think the ranking goes like this:
1. Yoda/Sidious
3. Anakin Skywalker
4. Mace
5. Darth Vader
6. Count Dooku
7. Obi-Wan
8. Darth Maul
9. Qui-Gon
After Anakin is damaged he is probably about 80% of his former strength (which is still stronger than most of the Jedi Council members, Darth Maul, Count Dooku, Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon.) *When I say 'powerful' I mean in fighting. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon are probably among the absolute top as far as comprehensive 'Jedi Powers' which include things such as foresight and mental fortitude.
