I would like to add something. I have seen many people state they think Windu is the most powerful due to him "beating" Sidious in the sword fight. I believe that Sidious let Mace Windu APPEAR like he was winning so that Anakin would believe that the Republic was under attack by the Jedi Order. Keep in mind that the Sidious had many things to sell to Anakin to get him to come to the dark side. I believe Sidious creatively and with stunning calculations planned it out as it happened to get Anankin ( the supposed chosen one ) to come to his side. You have to believe that Sidious was more powerful than Vader, if not then why couldn't Vader have killed him long before and ruled the galaxy on his own. There is little doubt in my mind that Sidious ( besides Yoda & Darth Plagueis ) was the most powerful.

Read this thread and had to register to say something.
The reason Vader never turned on Palpatine is as you say because Palpatine is the stronger one. But the reason he is stronger then Vader is due to Vaders strong injuries after the duel with Kenobi.
Quote from Wookieepedia: George Lucas has stated that Luke has the same Force potential as his father, which is why both Darth Vader and the Emperor were willing to turn on each other to gain Luke as their apprentice. Luke is said to represent Anakin's full potential, if Anakin had lived to achieve it rather than suffer the horrible fate that made him more machine than man. Lucas further measures that Luke's Force potential was twice as powerful as Emperor Palpatine.[Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back Director's Commentary]
As you see Lucas stated himself that Luke got his fathers potential, wich is about twice as high as Palpatines. And unlike his father Luke probably reached his max potential. So I think that you can say without a doubt that Luke is the most powerful force user that ever lived.
Sorry for my English, it's not my main language.

hi i am new to this but vader repelled han solos blaster shots force choke use the force to move things a jedis strength flows from the force so vader should be able to force jump why does he just look all helpless when luke jumps up out of the way and after 20 years he should be able to do force lighting dispite robot arms he used choke with robot arms around the table on death star 1 he ripped hans gun away from him and what happend to the saber skills look at obi and an they used to do all the tricks with the light sabers but the fight on deathstar 1 was basic and pants so was luke and vader dont say they are old cos yoda was old so was duku and one more thing in jabas place the to little green pig things walk out and put the axe type things across each others to stop luke from entering they do not attack him so why does luke use force choke thats the dark side and a jedi will find a peaceful solution and only attack in selfdefence

Yeah, I would say Ulic Quel-Droma is up there, think about it, he was a very powerful jedi kinght who became a sith lord and was still able to switch back to the light side again after that, it takes alot of force power to do that, that and he is just a cool ass character, hes probably the coolest eu universe characters that predates the movies, although that is just opinion. Anyway, besides him you have to hand it to the guy who inveneted the whole thing, Kaja Sinis, he is definatley up there, and I know what your going to say "Oh no. Dont listen to Supershadow" and my answer to that is that isnt from supershadow this guy actually existed if you research it enough, hes not some fanfic. character like people to make him out to be. Also, Yoda, becuase he was extremley proficient is the use of the force and lightsaber(end of episode 2 and 3) and because he had about 7 or 800 years longer to study it than anyone else. Anyway I cant list everyone so Ill just show my list. Keep in mind that Im only listing jedi and not sith lords, so dont nobody get pissed off for not listing exar kun, marka ragnos, nihilus etc...
1.Yoda(Definatley greatest as far as force power goes and knowledge of the force goes)
2.Mace Windu(Greatest swordsman in my opinoion, he invented his own form, form vii vaapad, and was the only one to succesfully master it)
3. Ulic Quel-Droma, (a great all around jedi, he was also and amazing swordsman, he also managed to switch from the light side to the dark side back to the light side again, he also became one with the force when he died, indcating he was a jedi master of the highest rank)
4. Obi- Wan Kenobi(Probably the best all around, he is very balanced in all areas of the force, and makes a great "legit" jedi.
5. Luke Skywalker is probably the greatest jedi ever, i just prefer the ancient jedi more, also he is referenced several times to be his fathers equivilent on the light side, and since Anakin was the chosen one that definatley puts him up there. Also as far as the movies go, Luke wouldnt even make my top ten, however it was after the movies that he rose to power, (after all he didnt even become a jedi knight untill the last few minutes of return of the jedi), so I would have to correct my statement and say that "EU Luke Skyawlker" is most powerful.

As far as sith lords go however Id say its in a dead tie between Darth Bane, who is my personal favorite, and Darth Sidious.
When comparing them, many "AMAZING" feats are revealed and I mean amazing. For example when Dath Bane was stranded on Dxon after his ship crash landed there he single handeldy with the force tamed a flying wild beast, flew into the outer atmosphere and with the force nudged the moon of Dxon closer to the planet so he was able to escape, this no doubt one of the greatest achievments in the force ever. Besides that Darth Bane basically redid the entire way the sith lords would operate for the next thousand years and set it up for Sith Lords like Sidious so they could rule once again. Besides this Bane was also an amazing swordsman, and during the war between the Jedi and Sith on Ruusan, he single handedly defeated hundreds if not thousands of jedi without breaking a sweat, a feat that no one acheived again untill Darth Vader, when Order 66 was isssued.
Now on Sidious, Sidious, I think at least was probably a better plotter and politician thand Bane. He was more of a mastermind than Bane. He was also a very powerful sith warrior and was reported to have mastered all forms of lightsaber combat and was also a master of any form of lightsaber, a feat im sure if Darth Bane had even accomplished, although I do know that Darth Bane has mastered several forms of Lightsaber combat. When looking at Sidious's feats, there are also some "Amazing" feats. In Episode III, he defeated four jedi in a little less than 15 seconds, although I dont if he could have taken Windu out or if it was all just a act. Anyway besides that another feat that he accomplished was the he moved an entire imperial fleet with nothing but the force(I dont really know when this happened, I read it on wikipedia, but Ithink it happened in the period between Episode III and Episode IV), besides that he also complete the goal that Darth Bane had imagined a thousand years ago, to rule the galaxy, and he was also able to transfer his soul between bodies(kind of creepy), however the really super lame part is, Resume for Darth Sidious: Mediclorians: somewhere in the late 18,000's, achievments: Lifted an imperial fleet with his mind, killed for jedi in under 15 seconds(might not top Banes record), ruled the galaxy for 20 years. Finally killed by: Han Solo: 1500 mediclorians, so obviously he wasnt a god yet, anywhere theres my comparison of the two best sith lords in my opinion, and here is my list.
1.Darth Bane/Darth Sidious
2.Darth Vader(Despite people bashing him he was still 80 percent as powerful as Sidious, which is still quite powerful, he also killed thousands of jedi, in the great jedi purge) Ps. as far as the percent thing goes Id say Vader was 80% of Sidious and Bane was 95% or tied with Sidious.
3.Count dooku a.k.a Darth Tyranus(not as powerful as Sidious or Vader, but still more powerful than Darth Maul, after all he did last two movies, also he was able to do fairly well against Yoda in a fight although I think he lost by a small percent in the end, and pretty much beat the **** out of Anakin and Obi-Wan at the the end of Episode II, definatley up there)
4. Darth Maul( Definatley one of the greatest sith swordsman, he was a master of form vii juyo, a less advanced but none the less same form that Master Windu used, however he probably never used it to its full potential since it is a mainly weapon for a jedi to use as aweapon of light. He definatley wasnt the smartest sith though, he forgot a very important sith rule, always taunt your enemy. Instead he wound up losing a fight he should have won beacuse he got cocky.)

I also heard something from Wookiepedia that in the EU comics Luke learns and masters every from of lightsaber combat, even form vii vaapad and that he uses it. If this is so then this would make Luke the most accomplished swordsman ever!

BY THE WAY! THIS IS TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To all of you who think Sidious faked his fight with Windu, I have one word for u. ********!!! What it comes to is that Windu due to his ABSOLUTE mastery of Form VII : VAAPAD was a better swordsman than Sidious, in fact he was the only one in the history of the order at that point of time to master it, and Ill say This NOT EVEN SIDIOUS MASTERED FORM VII : VAAPAD , only Windu. So in conclusion, For all of you who think that Sidious was faking, GET OVER IT!!!. Sidious lost, Mace was a better swordsman and the only reason he died was because of a cheapshot from Anakin who by the way was a crybaby that was a very sad excuse for a jedi. When it comes down Mace IS THE BEST SWORDSMAN EVER!!! He is the best there ever will be, maybe not in force, maybe not in knowledge, but no one will ever be as good as Windu with a lightsaber. EVER, no if, ands or buts, just EVER. I think I have made my point.
G-FETT EDIT: That word is not allowed on this message board

i believe that this debate can not be decided as all of the top jedis ddnt fight 1 another in a competition. I also believe that you cannot base an argument on the films, this is because the technology of the time of the original trilogy ddnt allow Luke to show his strength unlike yoda, obi etc.
I believe that Luke is the most powerful but that is a matter of opinion, only him and three others could do force flight and someone said earlier in the thread he ddnt combat lightning but we have to rememba at the time he had neva seen lightning bb4 ther was no way he new wat to do.
i believe that yoda is second and mace third. mace has the best saber skills and yoda is wiser but i believe that luke grew as a jedi and although he ddnt beat either of these two in their specific arts he put the two together to be best.
also the sith lord ragnork was believed to be immensly powerful but no-one no's how powerful but he cud rival the top place.

Totally in agreement. Obi-Wan Kenobi in my eyes is the most significant and the most powerful Jedi in the Movie Saga.
LordSilvertouch posted: Casting aside any fanboy ******** and looking at the straight facts, who gets limbs cut off and who loses fights, Obi-Wan Kenobi is the clear winner.
- Defeats Maul (Qui-Gon couldn't)
- Defeats Grievous
- Holds own against Jango Fett, which even *snigger* Coleman Trebor couldn't.
- Defeats Anakin, the "chosen one".
- Survives the Jedi purge, which only he and Yoda manage.
Obi-Wan did all this without losing sight of the morality of the Jedi. And he had a bad feeling about events all along, when other Jedi spurned him. He knew Palpatine was a bad guy, when others made fun of his political views.
As Jedi go, he's on my pedestal

^^^ Yes, definitely. Obi-Wan beats (and dismembers) Anakin who destroys the Sith. I don't think there's too much contest there.

Yoda was the most powerful jedi. The fight with Sidious was a stalemate, so you can't really count that. Yoda never battled Obi-Wan, in any circumstance. But if he did, I'd definately lay my money on Yoda. Yoda was gonna destroy Dooku in the Solar Sailor hangar but cared about his jedi friends, so he saved them and let Dooku escape. Yoda had like 900 years of experience in everything. He mentored pretty much all the Jedi until his death. He was a Grand Master Jedi until Luke became that rank later down the road(whom Yoda trained as well). Even though he shared command of the council with Mace, he was far more experienced then Mace and I think all jedi were aware of that.

It was a stalemate. Yoda could not beat Sidious. At the end of ROTJ we can see that Vader kills him. Obi-Wan beats Anakin who destroys Sidious and the Sith whom Yoda could not beat. Obi-Wan is definitely the most powerful Jedi.

"The Star Wars story is really the tragedy of Darth Vader. That is the story. Once Vader dies, he doesn't come back to life, The Emperor doesn't get cloned and Luke doesn't get married," George Lucas. I'm a proud hater of 98% of the Expanded Universe.
