I would hardly say that thinking Joss Whedon is a better writer the GL is being "wiggy".

No...

I meant, Josh Wheateat is okay - I mean Buffy was tolerable - for what it was. And that Firefly thing was a decent-ish second-tier Star Wars knock-off.

Neither example make me jump up and down (wiggle wiggle) thinking that this makes him worthy of Star Wars.

In fact, there is a self-concious vibe to his stuff that screams "Listen to this cynical, post-modern coolness full of biting allusions, and commentary galore"... which, in my opinion, does not gel with what Star Wars is about.

I'm afriad that if Jozza Weeble took the realm, every character would be live in moral grey-areas, relishing in their ambiguously flawed, inner-tortured mess. They'd navel-gaze their pretty faces and pout & preen through their adventures.

And, like, that's sooooo 1998!

Well, I'd give him a little more credit then turning SW into Buffy In Space. But with the series taking place during a time when the Empire is establishing it's full control over the galaxy and stripping citizens of their freedoms and seeking to destroy any all resistence no matter how small, it's sounds like a setting he could handle quite well. I mean before the PT, I would have agreed with you completely. But Lucas himself introduced shades of grey and moral ambiquity into the GFFA. Personally I think that was just one more mistake that he made. But fine, it's there now. I believe Whedon would know how to handle this well and know when to back off with just the right amount of humor to keep it from getting too serious. And from my POV he couldn't possibly make SW worse (unless he made it Buffy In Space happy )

Joss Whedon is a tremendous talent. Would he run this show? No. I like speculation as much as the next guy but it just will not happen. This is a guy who can get a show and universe greenlit anytime he wants. He's not going to take instruction from Lucas for a year. That's one too many personalities in the equation. Set the bar a but lower. Someone who has talent but not as powerful as Whedon. A Tim Minear, Marti Noxon, or a David Fury. Those writers all played an important role in Whedon's success. They have taken instructon Joss so why not Lucas? They'll be running th show after the first season basically.

I'm sure whoever they get will have to answer to GL - no matter what.

And here's another point...

It'll be as in-house as possible I'd guess - which means NO guild writers OR directors.

LFL will be the biggest independant TV production company in the universe!

I think you're most likely right there, Jamie. That's why I have a "bad feeling about this." What I would like to seem them do is recruit some people from over seas. Japan for instance. Some of the best writers in the world can be found there.

Maybe GL will... it's up to him. It's not an impossible speculation.

Well I mean Lucas may not be the greatest writer of scripts but he is a tremendous storyteller. He can get excellent script writers like Whedon surrounded himself with his entire career. These guys all do freelance work now, anyway. David Fury has written for Lost and has written for 24 the last two seasons. Marti Noxon has written for the new Battlestar Galactica. These people do not run the Whedon shows but he'd be the first to tell you that they had much to do with the success of Buffy, Angel and Firefly.

I love Firefly and Buffy, and I think Joss is great, but not in Star Wars. While I love his style of shows, they just aren't very Star Warsy, and I don't think it would mesh well with the universe. Just wouldn't feel right under the Star Wars banner.

Blackpool: I wouldn't say Japan has the best writers. Watch pretty much any anime. Granted, there are some which are pretty awesome, but for every good anime, there's 30 terrible ones.

Whedon is a tremendous writer, Buffy was a great show and Firefly was far from being a SW knockoff. Firefly was about as distant from SW as you can get in a sci-fi setting without being either too dystopian or turning into Star Trek. Besides the major differences, it was also some of the best sci-fi TV ever produced, I'd put its writing above anything that was ever put out by the SW proper universe, although not above everything to have come out of expanded. For all these reasons any involvement from Whedon at all would only be a good thing.

Star Wars is about good versus evil.
Wheadon's stuff is about pouting vs pretentions ambiguity.

I feel like banging my head on a keyboard everytime I read an interview with Lucas and he says that the tv series will be about unknown characters. Especially when it could be about a young Luke with an older Ben watching over him, Solo and Chewie always getting into something and how he got the Falcon from Lando, Darth Vader and the Empire going after any Jedi that survived, ETC. So many possibilities to explore with characters that we love!

What I find interesting is that according to lucas not only will there be a second animated show after clone wars, but the live action show will end up spliting into four different shows. Each show will focus on a specific character

I was just reading about that.
Unfortunately, he also said the live-action show is "a few years off".
We're prob looking at 2009, maybe, before it's on tv.
There was something else I read where he said it would have minor characters from SW, but
also use characters from the EU.
"Lucas actually also referred to a 2nd animated series he has in development. But what this project is, and if it's related to Star Wars or something else entirely, was not made clear."
