I just think that the Vader Jedi thing would be the least risk commercially and possibly popular with MOST of the fans....

The fans also supposedly wanted suited Vader fighting Jed in RotS, a move that would have ruined the film. Stick with minor, fringe characters. We've already had three films of Jedi action; it's time to center on other characters and how the Empire affects them.

How do you figure that a suited Vader fight would have ruined RotS?

There's bound to be at least one "grizzled, rugged survivor of Order 66" in there somewhere, but here's hoping Lucas is a fan of Firefly, and we get more Han- or Mal-class rogues in funky, patched-up freighters. That's Star Wars.

My thoughts exactly. grin

And there's always hope GL is that much a fan of Firefly that he'll get Joss Whedon to supervise the series... that'd be Star Wars back to some original glory! mischief

Retconning the whole 6 movie series to add a new major character for the tv series seems to me a bad move, why not pick up on one of the many minor roles that are hanging about in either trilogy? A) You have the fan recognition already laid out and B) You'll actually have story substance to add to the whole trilogy.

And yet, while I'm weary of anyone that is so cavalier with Lucasfilm information (after all, Lucasfilm employees are all sworn to secrecy under threat of severe bone crushing legal action, except Supershadow, of course hahahahha) it does seem that the line from RotS scroll has set us up for this--remember "There are heros on both sides."

I always found that line interesting since the movies show us the only heros we really care about, why mention the others? Unless you plan on selling us the tv series in the near future, which makes this guys comments about a new Vigo type hero all the more plausible .

Sawyer has a lot of Han Solo in him.

Not just his personality traits either (being the loner, having witty nicknames for people), sometimes the conection is meant to be noticed. - There's a time in the second season when "Jinn" the Korean man is talking to him and since no one can understand Korean, Sawyer says something like "Yeah Chewie, I know."

Would Josh want to do that role? To go from the hottest show on televison to something nerdy like star wars? Doesn't sound like a good career move. I'm sure the show will be great, but it probably can only be as prestigious as say Star Trek: TNG and that's assuming that it does really well versus all the other sci-fi out there right now. I just hope it doesn't look like Hercules the Legendary Journeys...

The reason the characters in Lost are so convincing is that they were all effectively unknown talent before the show started - there were no big names (with the exception of Hobbit boy). You could believe the characters because you weren't constantly comparing them to previous acting roles.

For the small screen I think this is extremely important to get audience 'buy-in'. Hence I'd expect George to hire totally new talent for his TV show.

Furthermore, I don't think it would be easy to get an established star to agree to a contract tieing them to do all of the episodes. An established star is more likely to agree to 12 (for example), incase the show bombs and they want to escape.

Could you imagine the creators of Lost trying to get established talent to sign up to a show which involves them living in Hawaii for half the year ?

Why are people so sure this show will fail. This is Star Wars we are talking about here. If TV shows like Star Trek:TNG, Battlestar Galactica, and Stargate are successfull, so can Star Wars.
Also; don't forget that Lucas is funding this show, and he has all the resources needed. Since he owns ILM, he doesn't have to pay mark up cost like other Production Companies. This will allow Lucas to get more Effects on screen for his money, unlike all other Companies. The only problem I see with a Star Wars TV Show is that, being more dialogue driven than the movies, people will complain about the lack of action. Though, with his resourses, I think Lucas will make sure there will be enough action to keep people happy. This Show is as close to sure thing as any TV Show starting out.

Besides; if whatever Channel that carries the Star Wars TV Show, doesn't like the Ratings it pulls in, who cares. Lucas can still continue to make the Show, and release them on DVD exclusively. wink

This report sounds pretty likely to be false, but I have to say that I love the idea of Josh Holloway playing the lead role. ...it sounds promising if only it were true. I also agree with Holloway's 'Han Solo' quality. Sawyer from LOST is very much a scoundrel type but I believe he will eventually prove to be one of the main heros of the show.

...and he's a big dude. He's like 6'2" 210 lbs. That's the biggest of any of the human jedi we've seen.

Matter of fact, some of us actually prefer other kinds of characters. I like Jedi, don't get me wrong, but they're not my favorite part of SW.

It's entirely possible that Lucas is fully engaged in concept development in order to provide a starting point for his small platoon of screenwriters to eventually work from -- story boards for potential scripts or just 'place holder' milestones that Lucas wants to use to guide the various weekly episodes after he gives up the helm and becomes executive director/producer.

Let us all remember the various often drastic iterations that each of the OT films all endured, especially ANH. No reason to expect this small screen undertaking won't endure the same give and take as new characters are formed and their story lines painfully evolve toward 'reality.'

lied, um i dont think so.

he said they were CONCEPT drawings...get it!!

and with a concept drawings must come brief description of the character and its possible relevance to the series.

thats exactly what he described to me.

do you think lucasfilm comes up with the drawing 3 months before production starts, no they design this stuff a good year before they even start to shoot (or before scripts are written).

lucas has an outline for the series and concepts for certains characters.

I was reading an article that said that in 10-15 years more movies & tv serires may be produced more for "on demand" services & DVD Home sales then for theatricle release or TV Stations. due to costs & Profits

"Stick with minor, fringe characters. We've already had three films of Jedi action; it's time to center on other characters and how the Empire affects them. "

SW without Jedi? That would supremely suck.
I don't mind centering on "fringe characters", but one of the main themes of SW is the importance of the
force and it is the Jedi who are connected to and use the force.
You can't have SW without Jedi and if the show is made without them I doubt I'd be that interested.
I do not want to see a show that centers around any bounty hunter.
I don't think GL would create something that did not include an element of the force and Jedi.
I am actually hoping this rumour about a main Jedi character is true. happy
