I personally don't want anything new. I happen to loathe change and I love star wars the way it is. If you keep expanding and letting new different things in it makes a bad look of it.
Man, I'm really negative...

I love SW the way it is too, but as long as something new had all the key elements
that makes SW great I'd be happy.
I've read quite a few EU novels and there are quite a few that would make awesome movies,
but I doubt that will ever happen unless GL allows for it after he is deceased.

No post return of the jedi tv shows. Marvel, Darkhorse and timothy zahn srewed up that option. I look foreward to more inter-saga stuff. Prequels or Original doesn't matter for me. It's all star wars you know. People should't wine so much about the prequels, all the comics and books that have recently come out are based on it. Legacy of the force, Legacy comics, Darktimes etc!

I don't think the idea of taking EU material and making a television show of it would be that bad. Sure authors have contributed to stories and events taking place after Jedi, however it could be like the new series coming up.
Most likely if a series such as this was made George would say what from the EU novels was canon, tweak a few things to George's likings of course, then base it on less prominent characters. The only problem when it comes to familiarity would be cameos from people who depending on the time frame would be much younger.
If they did do something like this they could always fast forward into Star Wars history to around the ages Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford are now but that seems unlikely to be done for a series although it would definately be worth it, even if they could convince even just one of them to be a series "semi" regular.
I am looking forward to the new Star Wars show as much as anyone, but I do think George should consider an idea like this for a Star Wars show set in the events past Jedi. Perhaps depending on how long running this new show is, they may either start another show sometime later in the coming show's run OR wait until the series ends and do another. I hope it comes to fruition though, can never say no to more stories from a Galaxy Far Far Away.

If I remember correctly, weren't there supposed to be nine feature films -- 3x3 trilogies? GL was barely able to complete six, and it was said that he was too old or too tired to commit to the last three (which were, by the way, supposed to take place after episode six).

They will never make the last 3....or if they even were the last. They were never part of the anakin -luke story. Carry Fisher could go for carry the hutt.

I'd put money on them being made in the future, by another director following the death of Lucas.
Similar to "Clockwork Orange" being re-released following Krubrick's death.

Then lets hope Steven Spielberg doesn't die before George Lucas. I can only see him making the last 3 apart from lucas. Spielberg has also worked on some scenes from episode 3. Like the mustafar duel/dialogue, and the obi wan vs grievous storyboards.

I've noticed a lot of folks on this site don't bother to even consider this possibility. While I don't think it will happen (Lucas will probably find some way to make it a legal mess for anyone who tries to cash in on his creation after his death), I don't throw the idea out the window entirely. There are enough fans out there who entered the film-making industry hoping to make a block-buster trilogy like SW one day; if they're that driven, they might just take a shot at it.

It wouldn't be someone "cashing in" on Lucas's work - it would be whomever owns LFL following his death - either his family, or major shareholders. Either way, after his death anything could happen.
Maybe his son will think it's a good idea to complete the trilogy of trilogys to honour his father!

I doubt it. GL is a taurus, and he will be shrewed. He will probablly have something written (legal) where no one can make a star wars movie ever again. Something like sole ownership. I should know, I'm a taurus and I think that way. Ever wonder why he so insistent in not making anymore movies and not letting anybody else play in his playground to make more? Ask if you doubt me, check all them interviews, and if you are one of the TFN guys that has access to interview GL, ask him that question. Will he ever allow anybody else to make star wars movies once hi is either retired or gone (dead).

Retconning when done properly can help advance the story and the characters. Like Bionicles and Star Wars although some people will still argue that. I like learning about back stories. Anyway, you don't have to worry about tired material in the series it's all new stuff...You would still watch it even if you didn't like it, I know it.

The live action might go the DS9 route, which means we should see some new interesting characters, good character development, and plots. I doubt any rebel will be like Sisko though.
