I read the Lucas said in a recent interview how the Cartoon Network series was only a test for the real animated series, whici hs probably going to be very different. Does anyone know how it will be different? I always thought the two-d serie was some kind of toy commercial because the stories were so bad nad Lucas obviously agrees.

He put the original Clone Wars series out there apparently to see if people would be interested. And it became a huge success, winning several awards and bringing in excellent ratings for Cartoon Network. So now he's going ahead with the full-length series since he knows there will be viewers.
But yeah, the original Clone Wars series was also designed to get people interested in the novels, comics, and video games as well, so they were sort of commercials.

I don't care what anyone says, Willow is part of Star Wars. Really, it is. It is I say!

I don't get Lucas; his attitude has been really annoying lately. He keeps blocking Indy IV, refuses to give us any significant info on the new Star Wars Shows/videogames, and now he is dismissing Tartakovsky's Clone Wars Series as merely a test subject that worked. I and many other fans loved Tartakovsky's Clone Wars Animated Series. So what if it was less "sophisticated" than 3D CGI; it was still great Star Wars entertainment. Lucas has been my hero since I was 7 years old in 1977, and I will always acknowledge his genius, but it is getting harder to defend him from his detractors.

I too loved Tartovsky's series however I don't think Lucas was necessarily disparaging that series.

I agree, and that's without mentioning anything dvd-release related!

I don't see the big deal. I'm sure something was said at the time of the TV release of CW about it being a test subject. At the very least it's what I expected.
Jurassic Park was a test subject for ILM's graphics to lay the ground for...
The '97 SE's, which had a pretty ropey Jabba which was improved in...
Episode I. Check out the waterfall scene in the Deleted Scenes - that water's pretty ropey, so ILM did...
The Perfect Storm which was essentially an effects-test for Kamino.
Now that's just technology (not marketing), but test subjects certainly seem to be George's style.
It's always seemed to me like TV was the mass-market future for SW. Rich as he is, George has never seemed like the kind of bloke that would just lay the whole thing to bed in 2005 and live off the royalties alone, y'know? So marketing-wise, a test subject like CW seems like pretty good sense to me.
I don't think George is belittling Clone Wars when he calls it a test; he's just stating a fact. Besides, if he denied it then the Lucas-Bashers would only use it as ammo against him.
Test subjects show that he cares about the quality and reception of the material he puts out. Let's not forget folks, he's a filmmaker but he's also a businessman. And a damn good one at that.

I hope it uses the same kind of animation. I loved both seasons, especially once i could watch them all at once.

This is going to be a 3D animation series so it will be completely different to Tartakovsky's style.

I completely agree with you! I always thought that the cartoon network series was a mockery of Star Wars, more like a toy commercial as you say. If you think of it, the intricate details of Star Wars hardware and ships are not well suited for the über-stylized cartoon network format.
I always thought it was an insult! Even worse, the stories portrayed characters in a very unrealistic way (Mace Windu single-handedly dispatches an entire army!!!!) not to mention the cowardly attitude the Jedi exhibit when facing Grievious, I mean c'mon! these are JEDI for cry eye! they are calm, in control, have faced bigger odds and come out alright, and now face lightsaber-wielding dancing freak and loose it???? pleeeeeeease! and I don't even want to go into the whole Durge assault to the Republic's army, which was a complete joke!
I hope the new series throws all that to the garbage can and wipes the slate clean with new and more mature stories.

I disagree, but each to their own. I do look forward to the 3D Animated Series though.

I hope that they throw all that crap from the novels. Those really sucked. Besides the cartoons, only the comic books were good. The rest blows, big time to include the movie interpretations of the beginng and ending for the war.

I'm almost positive Lucas used the Clone Wars shorts as a kind-of test - in Season 1, the episodes were only 3 minutes long! In Season 2, they were 12 minutes long.
Lucas is usually quite careful about the "legacy" of SW, and I don't think he wanted to jump in to an animated, 30 minute series without seeing how fans would respond.
It might have even been an indirect test for the live action TV series.

I don't think currently that he has to answer to anyone. we're in a weird situation as we've been used to having spoiler material available since a few years before TPM, which was a long time ago. I just feel that this is part of the end of the movies fall out
