Music on TV Series: Williams or a New Focus?

Will we hear John Williams' music in the animated and Live Action series? Will it be new music or recasts of the classic stuff from the 6 films? Or will we see a new music man? Williams is a movie guy, not TV (as far as I know) and TV would demand more music, more than the movies combined...any thoughts or rumors heard?

They can't use all new music.
I can't see the main theme not being used.

They used new music for the CW series, and a combination for Shadows of the Empire, so I'd figure some new music will be used at least.
I wouldn't be surprised if they get Joel McNeely back, since before Shadows he did music for the Young Indy series. LFL often like to look after their own in that department.

Oh, for sure they'll compose new stuff - I have no doubt. But they'll use Star Wars themes throughout, I'm sure of that as well. I feel it in the force.

I'm not so sure. I think they will probably use the main Star Wars theme to start the very first episode, but I also have a feeling Lucas is going to try and get as far away from the movies as he reasonably can (although I do expect a few cameos, especially from R2 ans C3PO) which could well mean a whole new composer and music.

that echoes my sentiments as well...Will feature the Star Wars music we all know, but, it will be mixed in with new compositions...similar to Superman Returns, which uses the old John Williams score, but also adds its own flavor to it...

I personally doubt that the TV show will have a huge amount of music in it - most other TV shows of a similar genre don't. Music plays a large part in the movies during grand sequences where often not much happens (for example Anakin's speeder bike sequence in AOTC). I imagine these sorts of sequences won't happen in the TV show to the same degree.
I could obviously be wrong, but I don't see Lucas using JW and his rather large band to record new music for this show.

I'm not saying that the symphony will be brought in ... but what are you talking about? Lotsa shows have scores... watch some TV tonight! You must get American shows there - Music is always used.
I also totally disagree that Lucas will "try to make it as afar removed from the movies as possible". Um... why????

Because the movies are about the Skywalker family and the TV is not going to be anything to do with the Skywalker clan. However, its still going to have the Star Wars name, so I wouldn't go as far as Malkie and say that the TV show won't have much music, I think it will still be quite musical, but just not the themes we're familer with from the movies.

The TV show isn't going to have the same production costs as any of the movies, so we should expect less in every single department, which includes elaborate musical scores which won't contribute to the plot line.
Loads of movies release the musical score on CD, but how many TV shows do?

Sorry... I misread your post - you said 'reasonably can' - I thought it was 'possibly can', which means something different when you re-read it. Oopsies!
And malkie, yes, they would cut down. But the Clone Wars cartoon still had music - created by a synth - but still new music which incorporated JW themes. This is what i'd expect for the new shows, more or less (unless Boba does a mean guitar solo).

Except that other Star Wars related projects that have nothing to do with the Skywalkers feature music from the movies. Ever play X-Wing? TIE Fighter? Dark Forces/Jedi Knight? Galactic Battlegrounds? Empire at War? Battlefront? Rogue Squadron? All feature variations of the John Williams scores found in the movies. I can see them not using the character specific themes, but, the general Star Wars theme music should be included.

JW themes will be played without a doubt but it may not be by JW. If there is new music involved (no doubt there will be) I am curious to hear who it will be. Maybe that Joel guy as you say. I hope it doesn't go into a whole new direction musically. I expect new stuff with a taste of ROTS and ANH musical mixes. Vader's March and the emporer's tune will be in it even if they aren't. It will most likely be adopted by any Imperial scene. We shall see...
