A wide ranging interview from Rick here, but a few interesting tid-bits about the TV series.

The comments that really stood out were that the TV series is going to have lots of special effects, but will be much more character driven than the PT movies, and perhaps the most eye-brow raising comment is that Rick virtually rules out ANY old characters in the show. Very interesting stuff.

Will any of the older characters appear in the series?
It’s a whole different group of characters.

Hopefully we'll still get Vader, Luke, and Obi-Wan cameos. If not then what the **** is the point of having it take place between Ep III and IV!

I have no problem with it focusing on other characters, hopefully some wanted jedi, alliance leaders, bounty hunters and others. But, I think that we need a little Vader and maybe the emperor in some form every so often. During this time, Luke and Obi-wan probably aren't doing too much to arouse interest, but Vader and the emperor's story here has more potential. They're busy running the empire and dealing with anything that threatens their power. I hope some of the new character's stories include this area. If we don't get Vader or the emperor in person, then I hope we at least get them in name or characters acting on their behalf.

Anyway, this could end up being a great show as long as they focus on characters and keep it feeling like SW. I hope we can watch the show and really feel like we are in the same universe as the movies. That's the most important thing IMO.

Its a job to take Rick entirely seriously on this, as LFL own advertising seriously hints that Boba Fett will be back for the TV series;

And we know that from all his comments on the Prequels that Rick is not the most reliable source out there. laugh I still think there will be existing characters in it - They just may not be the focus of the show .

I still say, let the Jedi go and lets start taking a look at the birth of the Rebelion and the expansion of the Empire. To me that the most firtile grounds for drama and action.

I think Rick is just playing it cool, so the fans don't get overly hyped for a who's who, where's Waldo type of thing. I'm betting there will be cameos from well known Saga characters other than Boba Fett. It would be a waste not to have some familure faces on the show; they need some connecting points to both Trilogies. Though, I do believe that Rick and George are serious about the Live Action Series focusing primarily on new characters.

At least we finally get some new info. Rick mentioned that George was actually in the process of writing the Story outline for the Show. silly

I agree. I mean, Vader's bound to show up somewhere - I mean, he's too much on an iconic character to ignore. Its a matter of balaece though. Too many cameo's and you start to undermine the new characters and the overall storyline. Not enough cameo's and the fanboys are unhappy. I certainly don't want to see lots of cameo's every episode.

I also picked up the comment that Lucas has finished developing the story. I hoe he now turns the whole thing over to a group of talanted writers, so we can get some really great scripts. This is what will determine how good this series will be, IMO. For my money, when it comes to television its much more important to have a good script and actors, than it is for the movies. With movies you have lots of other elements to enhoy like music, special effects, etc... But TV doesn't have all those other elements to detract attention from the fundemtals of script and acting, so you really have to get both of these spot on, if you want a sucessful TV show.

Incidentally, if you want to discuss Red Tales and Lucas's other projects, I also posted this interview in the Indy IV and other LFL Projects forum. happy

If Vader does show up then Mr. Jones MUST do the voice. I mean he does a wide range of things not to mention he's good friends with Lucas. I think it wouldn't be too hard to get him to do voice overs.
