Ah, Highlander...

The first one was good. Sword fights by Bob Anderson. Second one... Well, if they'd just put together One Version of it... There's the US release, the UK/European release, the Director's Cut, The Renagade Version Director's cut...

So yeah.

Didn't like the series. They had to tame it down too much, and saddled the main character with that obnoxious french girlfriend for 2 years...
Highlander was a dark, gloom&doom movie.
Highlander:The Series was a bright and happy prime-time TV show. Like StarTrek, one in 5 was worth watching. One in 10-15 worth watching twice.

Don't forget Highlander:the Animated Series!!!

Forever Knight was similarly afflicted with the wrong mood in writing and constant ret-con.

Very true. Which is part of the reason i'm curious about picking up the "Best of" collection, as i remember many episodes being kinda "meh", but some others were excellent.

Is it a series or an animated movie? I have heard good things about it, but I haven't see it yet; any good?

Ah, Forever Knight! I enjoyed that show a lot, though there were many weak episodes.

The first few episodes were released as a Direct-to-Video movie, but it was a 13 episode series. Aimed at the kiddie market, and condisending as all get-out. It was...Horrible.
No beheadings. Ramierez was back with no explanation. Quentin had a non-immortal sister. She had a 6-limbed dog-thing. "The Buzz" was shown by glowing crystals in belt-buckles or broaches.
It went downhill from there.

I enjoyed FK far more than Highlander.
Only good thing I can say about the 4th movie is that is showed how much better an actor Lambert was over Paul, much the same as the first movie showed Connery over Lambert.

"Hey Sean, we got this great part for you."
"Oh, really?"
"Yeah, it's all about this guy from Scotland who can live forever."
"Scohtland? Excellent. OI'll fit right in."
"Uh, Yeah. Look, um, the part we have for you is an ancient Egyptian who has been to Japan and is currently working for the King of Spain."
"Are you inshane?"

"Hey, Sean, baby!"
"What ish it now?"
"We got this great part for you: a Russain Submarine Captain!"
"You want Jamesh Bond to be a Captain of a Russain Shubmarine!?"
"Oh, no worries! We have Reilly:Ace of Spies as your firsht, uh, first officer."
"... How Much?"

True. I liked Adrian Paul, but yeah, not so great an actor.

I have been quite out of touch for a while. Can someone please explain to me what more do we know about this TV series? Is it definitely going to be produced? if so, what stage of production is it in?

thank you and sorry for clogging up this thread. it just seemed like an appropriate place.

What we know;

1. Its definatly happening.

2. Release date is expected to be sometime in 2009.

3. Its going to be darker and more character driven than the movies.

4. George Lucas has the whole story mapped out. We believe he will direct the first few episodes and then step away.

5. It will be between the PT and the OT and will star mainly new or minor characters. NO Skywalkers.

6. Writers are being hired now, Some writers from LOST anf Heroes have been employed.

And thats about it. Considering how long Lucas has been working on this, we still know amazingly little about it, really.

I'd take this one with a graint of salt. This was said about AOTC and ROTS, and they turned out to be almost the opposite.

George is the kind of storyteller that prefers action over character.

I thought ROTS was extremely dark. So did everybody I saw it with. blush

Definitely agreed. AotC wasn't that dark, but RotS is easily the darkest film of the Saga. I mean, c'mon, Anakin murders children! shock Can't get darker than that.

ROTS was extremely dark. The hero of the film turns evil and leaves behind a trail of bodies.

As far as George not caring much about character, well, while that was somewhat the case with the movies, he's not writing the scripts for the show. He's doing the outline and general story. Plus, for a show like this to do well, it's going to have to focus on the characters to do well. And I think it will certainly do that.

I agree ROTS was dark in light of other star wars movies. But "dark" is a very subjective term... I don't want the series to be darker than it needs to be. One of the things that will make or break the series is striking a balance between making it "feel like" star wars for the base audience (Star Wars fans), but also distance itself enough from the movies so that broader audiences would enjoy it...

I think that will actually be pretty tough to do...

Yeah, I've aid this before. It still has to be Star Wars. We don't want something thats totally devoid of all of that Star Warsy feeling we know so well, but at the same time, to work on TV it does have to be more wordy, character driven, etc.... It'll be an interesting balance to strike.

Just think 1st half of ANH. In fact I think the creators should only look at ANH for everything and forget everything else. That's all the Star Wars it needs to be happy

I know like that'll happen. tired

I wonder if a show with none of the classic characters can survive. I hope it does. The period between ROTS and ANH always intrigued me, so let's hope Lucas brings the goods. You have to assume there will be at least some reference to the movies right?
