El Kabong posted: I don't think we're quite there were a cost intensive show like Star Wars can be supported by home sales alone.
I think we're getting there- Stargate SG-1 nearly got an 11th season via DVD/iTunes, but ended up settling for two DVD movies instead. Battlestar Galactica is releasing a DVD movie this fall and Babylon 5 is returning with a DVD series of movies starting this summer. And all of those shows average/d 1-2 million an episode, which will be the range that even the SW show will have to stick to (they'll just squeeze a bit more out of those dollars since it's all internal and Lucas has that juicy ILM discount ).
In other words, the pond is rippling and people are dabbing their toes into the water, and pretty soon someone is gonna jump in. And judging by past comments, it's seems like it's some property Lucas wants to vacation in

I don't want a star wars series unless it is going to descimate ratings like the movies did. it would detract from the franchise and could see the end of Star wars if the tv series fails. this could happen if lucas decides it is no longer profitable.
I really wish he had just commisioned three more movies.

watching prison break the other night they said the elec chair makes you incontinent. So does that mean that mace windu pooped himself right before he went out the window? Or did Luke make a stain on the death star? maybe DV died of embarasment?

Whatever happens with the TV series we'll always have the movies. Nobody can take away the fact that Star Wars changed cinema - Thats why it'll always be remembered, whatever happens with the TV series.

What I like about the new clone war cartoon series, and the live action is that it will bring new video games, making of books, art books, novels, comic books, action figures and the like. It will expand the EU. Some people unfortunately will complain and it is unfortunate. Lokk at GT, Clone Wars cartoon series. They were great despite the frame work that Genndy was given, plus we have 7 volumes of clone wars cartoon adventure books that are excellent, with three more coming out. If those do good, they will probably be more, plus whatever they get in the new series.

The name Star Wars itself is going to draw huge ratings.
I just hope this doesn't come off as some sci-fi channel b-rate show.

You gotta admit, though, "Animation Domination" is pretty cool! King of the Hill, Simpsons, Family Guy and American Dad! And the latter do have a lot of Star Wars references.

Sorry, but saying that it will be good because Lucas is in charge & can make whatever he wants...
In that case, why didn't he give us three GOOD movies instead of the prequels?
The best thing Lucas can do is back away.
Supervise, maybe. Outlines, possiblly. But let someone else write.
It's only a pity that Brian Daley died.

Some of us WERE happy with the Prequels, you know.
And I honestly don't think theres any question of Lucas writing the whole series himself. As far as I understand it, he is doing an outline for the series, plotting it out, and then he'll turn it over to a team of writers to actually bring his ideas into reality. I really don't think Lucas has the time to sit down and write an entire TV series on his own.

Yeah, I think only JMS has managed to write an entire season+ of a TV sries by himself- and he's a writer who likes to write. Lucas doesn't even like writing, IIRC (or at least finds it to be his least favorite aspect of filmmaking).

And it shows.
In adition to Brian Daley, I'd like to throw in a mention of the loss of Terry Nation, who DID write entire seasons (13 FULL HOUR episode seasons) of the shows he invented.
I could go on, but it would turn into yet another bitch session rehashing all the arguments that have been beated to death by stampeding wooly mammoths.

JMS is an awesome writer, even if it did take 5 years or so to finish 24 issues of Rising Stars, awesome book it was!
I don't understand why everyone cries DOOOOOM for the TV show. You all will watch, you know you will. I will. I enjoyed the PT. Ep 1 was a bit boring, but 2 and 3 rocked. I grew up with the OT. I say bring it on. We won't know until it airs if it sucks or not. As far as I'm concerned even a bad Star Wars show would be better then most TV shows today.
