Spidey 3 was disappointing. 1 and 2 were so good, and this one just so-so. Venom should've been dropped from the story. Keep the symbiote and Eddie Brock, just have him join and become Venom in the last scene and build for Spidey 4 Not that Episode 1 was so great itself mind you, but he is entitled to his opinion.

He's just calling it a silly movie, not a bad one.
Hell, the movie was silly and if you weren't a big fan of Spidey, you wouldn't really enjoy it.
I loved it, including it's sillyness.

Jar Jar Binks was silly. Anakin's clumsy advances towards Padme were silly. Vader's over the top "NOOOOOOOOOO!" was silly.
At least Spidey 3 was enjoyably silly.

Not to mention Yoda's sonic the hedge hog routine. Now that was REALLY silly. Then there were silly names like Dooku and Grievious who were meant to be taken seriously; the title of Attack of the Clones; the battle droids were all exceedingly silly. I could go on and on. And after seeing Spiderman finally, I find Lucas' ongoing hypocrisy to silliest thing of all. How anyone could be so delusional is beyond my comprehension.

Isn't it possible he was being ironic? In any case he is perfectly entitled to his opinion and I don't understand why people get so workewd up about him having a view about other people's work. Plenty of directors have expressed an opinion about his work. Good and bad.

There is definitely an irony to it that's for sure And of course it's not the fact that he's expressing an opinion that I object to, it's the hypocrisy. I'd be more willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he said it with a wink in the eye if he hadn't made other hypocritical assertions in the past (which he clearly wasn't joking about) like the coloring of the 3 Stooges DVDs using the reasoning that they should be preserved for future generations as they originally were.

Yeah, that one was pretty hypocritical, given the way he's behaved with the O-OT.

To paraphrase things:
Lucas: Spider-Man 3 was silly
Lucas: People said The PT was silly, but it isn't
I personally think he was basically saying that Spider-Man 3 may be looked at as silly, but it isn't, like the PT.

Even if the Spider-Man sequel wasn't as good as the first, Lucas really shouldn't criticize movies with the term "silly" after Phantom Menace.

I think it was more along the lines of 'Crap, I just called Spiderman silly and said there wasn't much story behind the CGI- now their obvious target is my films. So I'd better get in there quickly and remind them that the PT isn't silly, no matter what anyone says.' He was just trying to hastily cover his own back with the second comment.
IMHO, Yoda was the silliest thing in the PT. I distinctly remember being in the cinema and hearing everyone laugh when Yoda does his 'I'm so hard' pose before fighting Count Dooku. They laughed because, yeah, it was silly. And not in a good way.

Curious. In both times i saw AotC in the theatre, the audience cheered and applauded Yoda going all monkey-style on Dooku.
They did laugh however when he picked up his cane agin after the fight and started walking all gimpy again.

It's probably just the difference between a British and American audience. I've certainly never seen a British cinema audience applaud or cheer anything spontaneously- whereas I saw an American audience do that at very first film inside a US cinema!
But I speak only from my own (limited) experience so feel free to disagree.

Well I'm American and I really couldn't tell you if the theater laughed at Yoda or not. That's mainly because everyone around me (including myself) was laughing so loudly

BTW- the "telefilms" comment was debunked at C4. As most of us suspected, it was probably just someone misinterpretating something.

Spiderman was crap sad to say but I felt like pirating it would be a waste of bandwidth and the $12.50 I paid to see hurt more than a rectum exam. I hate paying for crap.
