All of the reviews (all 8) on Amazon give it the highest rating. I think I might have to order myself a copy especially considering the state of television during the strike. Sounds like a good idea to me.

The really clever thing it does is that by having characters from the 70's and modern day, it explores society's changing attitudes towards race, sexuality, womens rights, etc....

The only thing I'd caution you on is that being a northern UK show, you may not get some of the terminology and phrase's.

It is fantastic grin Despite the Northern setting, it's certainly got national appeal over here, and to be honest, I don't see why it wouldn't work well internationally. It's scripted and acted well enough to translate. After all, those of us in the UK don't need 24 translated do we? wink

Life on Mars and My Name is Earl have been the best thing(s) on TV since I can't remember when (and believe me, I can remember tongue )

Yeah, absolutely. Life On Mars restored my faith that the UK can actually make groundbreaking, original, moving, intelligent and thought-provoking TV shows. In an era of dreary soap operas and ghastly reality shows, here is a TV show, on mainstream BBC1, that was new, fresh and innovative (while at the same time being some-how familier) Really terrific. I can't praise it highly enough.

Noted. But, I am a fan of English humor.

As far as My Name is Earl, I've seen a few of them. Great show. I just always seems to miss it. I'm a HUGE fan of The Office (the US version, have never seen the UK version) and Extras. I think Ricky Gervais is one of the funniest people around today.

Cool. Let us know what you think.

Regarding The Office, you should but that as well (British version) while your buying Life On Mars. grin

Definitely will do. What other English shows are on that I probably wouldn't get here in the states?

Hmmmm.... Well, I'll have to have a think about that. We're not *that* good at producing fresh and original stuff just lately. Must of the stuff on TV here is utter rubbish, quite honestly. I'll get back to you if I think of something. grin

The name Life On Mars rings a bell somewhere in the back of my head ... I wonder if it's been on TV here before. I've never watched it myself, but I may have seen its name in the TV guide once. The ABC station here plays a lot of British shows, so it probably did. I honestly don't watch it very often though. Spooks and Black Books are the only two recent(ish) UK shows I've really seen multiple episodes of. And even then I just couldn't stick with Spooks.

Yeah, Spooks was hardwork. I couldn't really get into it, either.

That's ok, just about ALL of the stuff here is quite awful too. I'm so sick of reality TV. I just hope the writers strike comes to an end soon.

As far as Spooks goes, I hear you on that one. I couldn't get into it either. It was known as MI-5 here in the states. Watched a few episodes and wasn't that impressed.

I read in one of my papers today here in the UK, that an agreement to bring the stike to an end was about to be reached? In any case, I'm pretty certain it'll come to a conclussion by Oscars time. Theres too much money at stake for it not to be brought to an end for Oscars. wink

I heard the same, G. I think a deal of some description is being sorted out in regards to the writers' strike. I haven't heard details, though.

I know exactly what you guy's mean about Spooks. It was the same for me ... the only thing was that my brother was really into it, so I watched quite a bit. I just ... preferred 24. tongue

On the subject of reality TV, there's actually a show that I am highly enjoying. So You Think You Can Dance - the Australian version started down here last week. I find it to be great value. Have you seen the American version before, Saber?

Is that what we'd call Strictly Come Dancing? Where celebreties take up ballroom dancing with professional dancers?

Nope, that's what we call Dancing With The Stars. SYTYCD is more like a dance version of Idol.
