A few interesting tid-bits from Rick during the talk/question and answer session he did at Celebtration Europe.
Main points for us are;
Live Action Show could have as many as 400 episodes.
There's a possibility that the live-action show will be several different series, each telling a different story.
Writers are still being hired. The process will be complete in September.
EU writers may be hired.
The final months of 2007 will see the storyline being nailed down and presumably they will start writing the scripts?
Casting will begin in June 2008.

Unfortunatly, and perhaps surprisingly, no. I would have thought, as its on our screens in just a few months, that Rick would be pushing this quite heavily, but unfortunatly, not.

400 episodes? That's like 16 years worth! That's a tad optimistic to say the least. So it takes three years to make a Star Wars movie, but they think they can churn out that much material and have it be of the same quality? No way.
I'm looking forward to the new Clone Wars series, but I am very apprehensive about the live-action show(s).
They should do a trilogy of movies based on the Legacy comics with a spectral Mark Hamill instead. That would be my ideal way to go.

actually there was. Rick said that it's going well and they already had 15 episodes written.
As for the rest that is so unbelievably exciting!!!! 100 episodes is five and a half seasons...400?? That's too much to even comprehend, but the whole "several series" thing has me confused too

yeah... that is a little scary, seeing as how a normal TV series has a season of only 20 episodes or so...
the idea that there is even 400 hours of "between the trilogies" story seems ridiculous...different series set in different eras could be cool though, but to plan them all out now seems kind of far fetched...
400 episodes. Strange...

It's not strange at all if you just consider the source. I mean come on! It's McCallum. I suggest holding on for a better source like well, ANYONE else at Lucasfilm, before speculating on anything.

Yeah but If every series is going to be like a mini saga (revolving round same characters) in a galaxy consisting of hundrreds of billions of beings I think 400 episodes is realistic canon wise. but I guess it will revolve on how popular/succesful Star waqrs TV is

Are you suggesting that Rickmiester isn't very reliable?

Has anyone considered that the "400 episodes" number may have just been on overeggaeration by McCallum in response to everyone's questions about there being 100 episodes? I think it's best read as a statement of "we're going to keep making 'em until we're not", rather than a specific nailing down of episodes. No producer or anyone affiliated with television would ever seriously claim 400 episodes are being done. Heck, the Simpsons just hit the 400th after 18 seasons.

400 episodes almost seems like a joke but regardless, this news is cool to hear.
G-FETT posted: There's a possibility that the live-action show will be several different series, each telling a different story.
But then again, what I imagine from this could explain some of the over-extending numbers. Imagine, instead of "spin-off" shows occurring from successful regular TV shows (Buffy/Angel), we start with two shows. Two different focuses for each, but at the same time involving some cross over and interaction between the two at either entirely random places, or on a more focused front. It could definitely make some parts of it more intricate and beautiful. I like that train of thought....

I know, but someone has to do it
I wouldn't go so far as to call him a flat out liar, but he's definitely a disseminator of misinformation and has proven himself time after time to be an unreliable source. Fett in episode III? Maul tattoos explained in II? That's just a couple off the top of my head.

Dont' forget "we'll get a full explanation of Force-ghosts in EpIII"
*cough* sorry!
I think with regards to 400+ eps, he's talking in the very long term.
Although the initial live-action series is set between Eps 3&4, I always assumed there would be other live-action shows concentrating on different points in the timeline.
It seems silly to assume that LFL would make one animated series, one live-action and leave it at that. When Timothy Zahn's first trilogy was released, who'dve thunk the EU would explode to what it is today?
I reckon the TV shows will go the same route. Let them get into the swing of things, then they can start branching out. Before you know it, we'll have 400 episodes in one form or another

Keep in mind that McCallum said "As I said before, it’s a much darker, much more character-based series, much more adult, and we’re HOPING that it will go on for up to 400 episodes.”
Hell you can hear Rick's interview yourself here: starwarsblog.wordpress.com
Anyways, I was expecting to see more Clone Wars 3D video from Celebration Europe. What we got was hellacious amounts of live-action Star Wars televion series info instead including casting to begin in summer 2008.
Click the LucasFilm blog link above and listen to Rick speak. You won't be disappointed.

On the "different series" concept --
I brought this up in another thread on the show, but essentially it makes me think of the "Action Pack" lineup that aired in syndication in the mid-90s. The actual "series", as it was marketed and sold to affiliates by Universal Television, was the "Action Pack". But the "Action Pack" actually consisted of a few different shows (3 or 4, i think). One of those was a little Kevin Sorbo show, "Hercules". I forget now what the others were ("Tek War" was one), but they were similar style action/adventure shows. As "Hercules" became very popular, the other Action Pack shows were phased out until Hercules went on to become its own regular series. The "Action Pack" eventually became that two-hour block of Hercules/Xena, and included Bruce Campbell's hilarious "Jack of All Trades" and the decent "Cleopatra 2525" before the Action Pack was discontinued with the ending of both Hercules and then Xena the following year.
I can see the live-action series working somewhat like that, with the actual series being "Star Wars: Dark Times", but actually consisting of 3 or 4 different "series"; perhaps a bounty hunter show, a show following a fugitive Jedi, a show featuring early resistance against the Empire, etc. The different "series" would then alternate weeks, airing in the same time slot(s).
