Top of the list should be John Ostrander.

Also on the list:

John Jackson Miller
Karen Traviss
James Luceno
Aaron Allston (maybe)
Michael Reaves (maybe)

Stover[/b]'s writing style would not translate well to TV

To be avoided at all costs:

Stackpole (can't write dialogue to save his life)
Zahn (just doesn't get it)
KJA (just... no)

Kevin J. Anderson needs to stay away from this show at all costs. When I first saw that superweapon in The Clone Wars trailer, I was afraid they had hired KJA to write for it. laugh

I forgot about JJM: He would be a great writer for this series, he's already done a great job with KOTOR comics. And he has a goos sense of humour. now, considering this series will have so many episodes like McCallum said, humour will some in pretty handy.

Hopfully any influence from the EU writers will be minimal. I think 90% of the series will be written by proper TV writers.

What about EU writers who also are "proper" TV writers?

Michael Reaves would be a good example, though mostly in animated projects: Batman: The Animated Series, Gargoyles, TMNT, SST: Roughnecks, Real Ghost Busters, Transformers, Ewoks, but also has done some episodes for Twilight Zone (80's), Sliders & Star Trek TNG.

I'm not toally against EU writers working on the show, I'd just rather they focused on writers that have worked on shows like LOST and HERO'S. The writing has to resonate with the general public, for this show to really break into the mainstream. I personally don't want a Star Wars show that only appeals to the die hards, but something that becomes highly regarded by the mainstream viewing public.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Joss Whedon.

What EU stories did Joss Whedon write? wink

Ha! Had to say it. That would be interesting to see given Firefly.

Good lord, no.

I still don't have the aversion to them that you do, but I've changed my mind on them because of the fact that I've never seen them write for Television.

I think it should be, but I don't know that it will be.

I agree. Kevin J. Anderson must be not even let onto the 20th Century Fox studio lot. KJA is just horrendous. Zahn and Stackpole had to do a lot to repair the damage that he did to the characters.

Surprisingly enough, though, Anderson actually wrote some good X-Files novels.

Thats a bit harsh. You may not like his writing, but that comment is boardering on a personal flame.

I'm not a fan of KJA either, but i could see how his IMO simplistic style would fit with TV-style writing. I wouldn't mind him writing as a "hired gun" -- that is, just scripting an episode, not actually coming up with the story idea for the episode.
