In response to the original question, I don't see how you can be too attached to the core characters to not care about new ones. If the new ones are good characters and the writing is good, then I'll care about them too. I really just love the entire galaxy (minus the more silly EU stuff like the Yuzang Vong or whatever they're called).

Tyi-Maet_Nefer posted: Fair enough. By the same token would you enjoy seeing a young Luke/Leia? (As a main character in the live action.)
Leia, sure. Luke, no.

drg4,
Uh... where were you in 1999?
Couldn't this argument have been just as easily applied to the prequels? I mean, yes, there wer some OT characters there - but not as we knew them.
There will be some familiar faces we're told. Isn't that enough? It's a new show, but it's still part of the Star Wars story.
I'll bet you (insert silly dollar amount here) that the first glimpse that you get of this series will induce nothing but flaling drool to see the show. If it doesn't, then all I can say is get outta my way, kid.

I be jus' hopin' th' rumors about 't focusin' on Boba Fett aren`t true on accoun' o' while I think that could be good I think focusin' on a Jedi(Quin since Lucas had Jan an' Jon make th' lad's live?) would be far more interestin'.

I think we're going to have plenty of characters to focus on, especially if they plan on giving characters spin off series. I envision some Jedi on the run, some bounty hunters after them, the Imperials being baddies, and the Rebels starting to become a small thorn in their side. The wonderful thing about the two TV series is that we have plenty of time to explore these wonderful little stories that didn't fit into the movies due to story line or time.

True, and we'll certainly get plenty of Jedi in the Clone Wars cartoon. I think they've also mentioned potential spin-offs so maybe they'll have the Jedi spin off, the Boba spin off, the Rebel spin off, etc.

Only George knows! That new TV Guide interview does say that they're going to start the live action scripts in about a month. I absolutely cannot wait!

I know seriously. No Jedi at all, that just sucks.
I don't care who created it, you CANNOT have Star Wars without Jedi. There's nothing special about it if there's no Jedi, it's just another sci-fi show.

Where did this "No Jedi in the live action series" come from? I haven't heard or read it anywhere.

I saw it on comingsoon.net. I'll cut and paste the article here.
TV Guide: Tell us about it.
Lucas: Well it's basically like Star Wars [in that it] takes place between, obviously, [the films] Episode II [Attack of the Clones] and Episode III [Revenge of the Sith], but it's the same kind of action. Unfortunately, it doesn't fall into the realm of what animation [typically] is, which is either adult, kind of off-color humor or kiddie stuff. This is, like Star Wars, sort of in between those two things. It's a lot of battle stuff, and it's obviously the Clone Wars, so it's a war picture. So it's kind of a PG-13 animated TV series, which is something that has never been done before and obviously doesn't fit in any of the conventional slots that these things fall into. In that, it's very different, and I think it's very exciting. It's got a very, very sophisticated look to it. It's very much like the features. We're still trying to figure out how to put it on the air.
TV Guide: What about your Star Wars live-action series for TV?
Lucas: Yes, I'm working on that. We're just going to start writing it in about a month from now, start doing scripts for it.
TV Guide: And where will that live in the Star Wars continuum relative to Clone Wars and relative to the films?
Lucas: Well, Clone Wars has got all the characters in it — Yoda and Anakin and Obi Wan and the Emperor and all that — so it's basically the movie. The live-action [series] is not the movie. It's the Star Wars universe, but it's characters from the saga who were [previously] minor, and it follows their stories. It's set between [movie episodes] III and IV, when the Empire has taken over. It's like Episode IV in that the Emperor and Darth Vader are heard about — people talk about them — but you never see them because it doesn't take place where they actually are. There are stormtroopers and all that, but there are no Jedis. It's different, but I think it's very exciting because I get to explore a part of that universe that I haven't been able to explore. Once you have a saga, it's got a lot of requirements because it's about a particular [thing] — in this case, Darth Vader — and so it's his story from the time he's 10 to the time he died. You really can't go off that track because that's the story. Whereas now, I can make a left turn on 10th Street and go down there and see what's going on.

Interesting. Though knowing GL, i think i'll take it with a grain of salt (heh, especially since he says "Jedis", which is not the correct pluralization of the term ). Also note in the interview that he says that he expects to get the CW show on the air when they have 50-60 eps, when originally he had maintained they were going to complete 100 episodes and then start airing it. GL is well-known to say one thing and then completely disregard it later.
I'd be genuinely surprised -- regardless of what he says now -- if there are absolutely no Jedi whatsoever in the series. Great SW stories of course can be done without Jedi, but still. I'd think more that GL wants to stress the point that any Jedi will not be the focal point of the series (which has pretty much been implied from the beginning), as opposed the the animated series, which will have a strong focus on the Jedi.
Curious, nonetheless.

So if there's no "Jedis" I think we can still have one Jedi. Right? lol
