SO with news that Lucas is becoming more and more involved with the new Clone Wars series, do you think this is a good development for the series or a bad one?

My view is that Lucas IS Star Wars and the more involved he is, the better. But what do you think?

Good, since the article said nothing about him writing dialogue. laugh

Personally, i think that's a good thing.

He brings input about SW world no one has, so i think that can only mean good things for CW... i'm particularly happy about the part that says they're gonna focus more on character developement, and imo Lucas is best for that happy

Exactly. I think if Lucas is getting excited, then I'm excited. You want an artist to be excited about the work, or else how will the viewer be excited?

The article says he was pretty much in the background until they showed him their ideas/animation, then he was hooked.

There's nothing Lucas likes more than hearing "I don't think we can do that". wink

This news has definitely raised my expectations.

I love the idea of him being actively involved. Hopefully it will be the series just that much more better! Maybe it'll make them just as good as having a new movie!

Very good, as the article indicates Lucas is redirecting focus on character. I won't bother with 30 minute Playstation demos unless the writers make the effort to delve into Anakin, Padme, Obi-Wan, Dooku, and Palpatine.

I'm thrilled. I'm much more excited about it now that we know that George is making outlines and such, rather than just being consulted on some of the characters. And if he's excited and more involved, that can only mean good things for SW and he'll put in that much more extra effort on the TV shows.

This is very interesting and exciting. You can tell the author of that article is excited ... and that in itself builds upon the enjoyment it says Lucas is having. Which is great. grin

I particularly like this quote towards the end:

"It's decisions like these that will define The Clone Wars as cutting edge entertainment -- a quality which has always been associated with the Star Wars saga. And Lucas' involvement just brings it that much closer to the genuine article."

I really thought George was all Star Warsed out after the Prequels, but its exciting to hear he still has his creative juices flowing.

What I fond a bit weird though, is the news that Lucas wants this series to be more character focused.... Do you think thats an addmission by George Lucas that in this respect he failed with the Prequels? I mean, if anything wouldn't you expect the movies to focus most on the characters and the cartoon to focus on the action?

You could look at it from the other way, though, ignoring the cartoon part: TV series' are longer, and as such require the heart of characters to sustain it. Whereas movies split the difference in many categories. So focusing on characters isn't a surprise to hear and isn't an admission at all - as really, that is what carries a television show (look at Lost as a recent everyday example).

I thought about that, but Lucas had a whole lot going on in the PT, and he was constantly trying to trim it down. They had a tonne of good ideas, especially for ROTS that they couldn't end up using because of time restraints.

I expect we'll see more of Anakin's relationships with his Big Three: Obi-Wan, Padme, and Palpatine.

We may see more of the history of the Jedi, particularly Yoda and Mace, with Dooku.

I think this is great news. As if I wasn't excited enough drooling

One thing I am very surprised no one has commented on is, to me, the biggest issue this new CW series may be diving into. And that is how Palpatine / Darth Sidious will be handled. All of the EU and cartoons made for the Clone Wars as of now has been made to keep Palps' identity hidden. But now with ROTS out of the way, there is a good chance this series is going to show Palpatine in a behind the scenes, string pulling style that does not keep his duel persona hidden, as in the other cartoon (although there were hints). This really opens up a lot in my eyes, as we can see him doing things such as having a discussion with the Jedi, then going into his back room and calling on Dooku. I would not be surprised if this is why Lucas's interest has been spiked by this show - after having to keep Sidious a secret for so long, he can finally play with him in his full role.

Now that would be brilliant. Especially if they could get Ian Mcdiarmid to provide the voice. dancing

I don't see this as an admission at all. The prequels--unlike the overrated Clone Wars toons--were not intended to be exercises in wall-to-wall action. Kudos to Lucas if he wants this style replicated.
