Apparently George Lucas is going to fly out to LA next week to meet with the writers for the live action TV shows. They will then spend a week at Skywalker ranch in November, and then they will begin writing the first 13 episodes.

Presumably we should be getting details on who the writers are, any day?

Things are starting to move with this now guys, at last. dancing

I am just glad this is finally taking shape. It seems like forever since I heard about this series and the live-action series.

YES! The ball appears to be starting to roll now. See the quote about the agent that says talk of the series being set between Ep3 and 4 is premature. ANyway more regular news should start popping up in the next few weeks, I hope.

1) Brainstorming ideas? You mean George doesn't have at least 1/2 a season already prefabbed in his head?

2) Between Ep3 and 4 "premature"?

Both =

That everything we've been told or led to believe has been a crock, that nothing has been set in stone...that this project is starting cold. We have been fed a line for years now to keep the hype, while they have sat on their thumbs.

And I am more convinced then ever that this will not actually "shoot" unless the animated series A) is a blockbuster TV deal and B) is immensely successful.

1. Just because Lucas has the basic idea for the series in his head, doesn't mean that there isn't a serious amount of plot/story points for flesh out. So, the "brainstorming" comment doesn't negate the fact that Lucas has been planning the basic story/plot out in his head for last few years.

2. I believe EW is simply wrong about the series not being between Episode III and IV. Everything we've heard from multiple sources, including Lucas himself, is that the series will be set between the two trilogies. I'm not going to discard that, based on one rumour story from EW.

Yeah, I'd take Lucas' word about the time-frame for the series over any one else's reporting. This is certainly great news. I really hope that the meeting(s) go well.

I think your absolutely right,G. We have had way more reliable information than this article to suggest George has a good idea of where its going.

I think you can put these fears to rest. We know the show has writers already hired, and in the very worst case scenario (as this article suggests), they are just about to begin plotting the show. If they wanted to wait to see how The Clone Wars does they would not be meeting for the LA show already. TCW is a year away now, they wouldn't hire writers and have meetings for a show that might not even go into production a year from now.

And as for the time frame of the show - we have heard a million times it is between III and IV. I mean, they even went as far as to make that poster with Boba Fett on it. George has been quite vocal on the subject of the show being between the Trilogies.

George has probably been coming up with the big over arching storylines and stuff that deals with the bigger characters, but I would imagine that this "brainstorming" (as EW refers to it as) session will deal with the underlying stories and stuff like that. He's probably going to do what he's done with Dave Filoni and teach them "how to make Star Wars".

The teaching "how to make star wars" bit could be problematic because there are ways to be star warsy without being exclusively "Lucas," imho.

Very interesting story just went up at Ain't It Cool News. It's a lot to take in (and maybe believe) at once.

Yeah, there's some interesting information in there but I remain skeptical as to its veracity.

It is common practice in the film industry to hire writers for shows that never shoot or air...

For every one new show that makes a new season lineup, there are 6-10 "pilots" that were rejected...for every one pilot that was produced, another 6-10 scripts were written...for everyone one script that gets written...hundreds of ideas.

If anyone can afford to hedge the bet by having writers in place, it's Lucas...and their efforts can be turned any number of ways if it doesn't shoot. They can become videogame plots, or basis for future novels...maybe even altered to become a another animated series (this, I think could be tremendously likely if success is "moderate" while being cost effective)

Writers do not mean "project is a go" in Hollywood...you would not believe the scripts that float around out there...scripts that studios and executives paid to have made, not just the delusions of the wannabes.

Show me location scouts and casting calls...show me the usual suspects at the convention season are gone "filming"...until then, we are still in a place where the plug can be pulled with ease...Lucas could just easily be having his ilk over to shower him with unwarranted praise.

Yeah, but Lucas can do this even without having a major channel lined up to take it. He'll know that in the unlikely event he can't get a channel to take it 9which realistically won't happen) he can put it out through DVD and online. That audiance will be there.

Actually, I'd suspect he'd partner with a a struggling channel and create "Lucastube" TV station, just for his stuff.

But that's not going to happen...I think HBO or Fox will end up with it...and Fox would likely have it on Fox and FX and Fox Movie Channel.

But HBO/Cinemax would be commercial free.

But then who would see it?

d'oh.
