I do not agree that the writer is an idiot. I for one never agreed to the changes that the special editions got, and saw them as a warning perview of what was to come with the prequels. Though I will reserve judgemnt for the live action tv series, I have more faith in the clone wars animated series. That one looks very promising.

She's definitely not an idiot. I think the point that he's changed and possibly for the worse artistically is certainly valid. The only gripe I've got with the piece is the tone.

------------------------------------------------------------

Do you think this author has read an EU novel or comic? She says the stuff is bad but doesn't really give me the impression she's looked at any of it.

Lucas kept doing Star Wars because the "fans" wanted him to, then many of those "fans" turned on him because the new movies didn't live up to their memories from childhood. I love the prequels and ROTS is my favorite film of the six. To say that the dialog in the prequels is worse than the OT is rubbish. To say the love story could have been better could be true, but anything would have been better than the potential Luke/Leia love story set up in EP5. Most of the these critics forget the faults of the OT when bashing the new films. I consider them to be less of Star Wars fans and more of Opportunists.

Nothing is perfect, "Papa Lucas" certainly is not. When was he a great Artistic Directer or writer? THX 1138? Not much dialog in that film. His strength has always been with visuals, always will be. Idiot is the term I used and it may be a bit harsh, but thats what comes to mind when comparing Lucas's work to the Bible, or to Michaelangelo or what ever. Since when did Han Solo start adopting Russian infants? Her analogies are way off base.

In closing I'd just like to say that to be concerned about the live action series because you don't like the direction Star Wars has gone is totally fair. To me that article sounds like its taking shots at Star Wars fans as much as it is at Lucas. Why would someone who hasn't liked anything about Star Wars since 1983 still be even paying attention?(She doesn't even take her figures out of the package if she truly owns any).

(Also I always thought MSNBC was a financial station. My, bad. I've actualy never watched the channel. How is it different from regular NBC?)

Oh, I'm not saying that the journalist who wrote it is a Star Wars fan, just that she's not an idiot. She's perfectly aware of the polarizing and sensationalistic aspects of her article. You'll also notice that the Luke/Leia love story while set up, ended up not happening so I doubt she paid much attention to that.

His artistic choices changing over time is reflected in Jar Jar serving as comic relief vs. Threepio. There's also that for many people who were kids in the 70s and 80s Star Wars had a huge effect on their childhood so to them it really is comparable to the Bible or Michealangelo's work.

It is taking pot shots at fans as well as Lucas and that's part of my problem with it's tone.

It's their 24 hour news channel. It used to have a technology focus, but has since dropped that and now mainly has shows like Hardball with Chris Matthews and Countdown with Keith Olbermann
