Im gonna play Devil's Advocate and put forth a different view point on this.
Am I the only one who thinks this is just another greedy and manipulating move one GL's part? I mean Im excited and I know you all are as well, but this is just another way for him to squeeze every penny from us fans. he knows we cans say no to something like this and he uses that to take our money.
Look Im not gonna lie, Part of me is really excited about this, but another part of me is mad. I mean geez!! Why not just have a normal Television Premiere. Now I have to dish out 7+ dollars just to watch the Pilot episode/Movie in theaters ugh!! I have a 57 inch HD TV with DirecTV HD so there is not much incentive for me to dish out the money to see it in theaters.
I admit that this could be cool going to the movies with fellow Star Wars fans, but I just hate to be manipulated like this. Does anyone else see it my way?

No, you're not alone in that sentiment at all. I fully believe this is little more than a ploy to rake in fistfuls of millions. =\ And I loathe the idea of Anakin having an apprentice.

Yes, and if the energy that i see in the scenes from the CW clips are any indication, the LAS might even be better.

It will really show off the ability of their animation studio, but I think SW (because of it's "epic" nature) belongs on the big screen in some way. Sure, I'll enjoy the TV episodes as well, but main, this release (I hope) will look great on the big screen!
Who knows, maybe SW is destined to be an animated epic from here on out. It does seem to fit quite nicely.
Also, not to put down Japanese Animation, but this looks different enough where it has some originality to it. The desktop wallpaper art looks fantastic. Love it!
I totally agree that the expansiveness of the SW saga does fit nicely with an animated epic. But don't forget that the LAS is coming in '09 (we hope) so there's still live action Star Wars to be seen in the future.

I have a feeling this series is going to upset a lot of people for one BIG reason: continuity is probably going to be tossed aside. I don't know for sure, of course, but I get the feeling this show is going to forget the original cartoons and god knows what else. Anakin having a Padawan sounds bad..I have to agree. It doesn't "fit" and seems out of place. I'll still watch this show though, that'll never stop me - it does look amazing.
And maybe, this will open up the idea of further SW animated movies - maybe stuff that takes place during the Sith Era, etc...If it was done in the style of the upcoming Resident Evil Animated movie, it could be awesome.
I'll happily be in theatres when this comes out!
When you think of continuity you have to remember that there are really two continuities. One for the movies and anything that GWL works directly with. The other is the EU continuity which is all the stuff LucasFilm Licensing approves. So since GWL is working directly on the Clone Wars series then you have to consider it part of the movie continuity and not part of the EU. The canon flows as such:
Movies -> TV -> EU

nisomer posted: Anyone a little sad that they wont see the 20th century fox logo in the beginning??????
Definitely, I don't like the Warner Bros. logo at all. I work in Burbank so I see Warner everyday, haha, but I just can't believe no 20th Century Fox distributing the film, how weird is that? I really want to know what went on behind the scenes there, one of the trade papers has to get the scoop...
I'm really excited about this news, though, I can't believe how exciting it is. That made my year. No matter what else this will be a great Star Wars year, kind of the beginning of a new era, really, with eFX taking over the prop replica license from Master Replicas, and the animated TV show starting, the prequel era is officially over and now begins a new era. Star Wars is forever, it's just a matter of in what format.
I will be there August 15, and probably 16, and probably 17, etc. I will want to see the movie a bunch of times in theaters, as is my M.O.
I'm stoked, the footage looks awesome. I finally played LEGO Star Wars (on PS3) over x-mas break because I just got PS3 and that kind of put me back in the Star Wars mood because that game is so much fun.
Oh, and as far as the cynical comments, well he'd be stupid not to exploit the theatrical market because there are tons of kids with parents who will drag them to theaters as usual and tons of us fans who will support the movie. It may sound weird, because it's not money I make, but I love to count the numbers for Star Wars revenue, it's like a symbol of power and I feel that we as fans are all part of this larger empire and phenomenon that is Star Wars. We may be lowly citizens, but we are still voting members -- we vote with our money. I'd love to see this Clone Wars movie make like $200 million in theaters, that would be so awesome. Also because it does directly affect me in some way. The better that movie does, the more chance we get another theatrical release, like the pilot for the Season Two Clone Wars show coming to theaters first. There is a lot of potential.
I want to see re-releases of the Star Wars films in 3D, though, that's my main issue. I'm tired of these stupid movies passing the Star Wars films at the box office, it's time to throw them back out there and kick those piles of bantha poodoo back where they belong -- under the Star Wars films.

haha, why? I don't get why that'd be a big deal. His padawan looks hot for an animated alien. lol, j/k. But seriously why is it a big deal?

Yup I said that! The second to the last post on this thread http://boards.theforce.net/Message.aspx?topic=27744350&brd=10467&start=27864072 back on 12/15/07. I'm wondering if someone at Lucasfilm read my post and got the creative idea from me! If so, Lucasfilm where's my check?!!

Well for one it totally changes Anakin and his story as we know it. Then it raises questions, like why wasn't she in ROTS? I totally can't see Anakin having been given an apprentice at that point. It seems like a wrong direction to take the story in.
Second... there's that shot in the preview of Anakin about to duel Dooku. That goes against what we've seen as well ("My powers have doubled since the last time we met, Count.")
I can only imagine what else they have in store to re-write our favorite characters' stories. I think rather than adding all this other stuff to the saga they should add on to what has already been established. Some of these ideas are coming out of left field. Just seeing these previews I already feel that the first Clone Wars series was probably better in terms of building on the Star Wars story.

I think we can take it as read that his Padsawan gets killed at some point in this series. This could add to the reasons why he turns to the Dark Side..... he was too weak to save her, just like his mother. As for his duel with Dooku, all he says is that his powers have doubled since the last time they met. They could meet a number of times in this series and it still wont affect that line. There is also the possibility that the scene is a dream.... it looks dream-like.

As always, we are all speculating about the show/movie before it even comes out. I mean, it's months away and we are already worried over some of the news (Anakin and his new padawan, Fox not being a distributor, George gouging the public to get ticket sales, etc.).
You really gotta love fan devotion, in whatever manner it is displayed.
I for one will wait and see the content before passing judgement on whether these new twists are to my liking. I realize there's a few things even I don't like about Star Wars, but that's after viewing the movies over and over again. I mean, I saw the content and judged for myself. I came away with loving the Star Wars Saga. Is it perfect? No. But it's exciting and cool and has a look all of it's own.
Nothing out there looks, feels and acts like SW. While the concepts aren't original (heroes journey, dark & light battling against each other), the way GL packaged it up is. He took known concepts, and presented them in a fun, exciting and very visual way. and he left out the blood and guts and the sex scenes so prevalent in movies today. It's a product with mass appeal and I for one think GL is smart to capitalize on movie sales. My God, he has the right to make money, just we all do in the US.
We have yet to see this new "epic" that George is unveiling. Lets at least wait until the content is presented.
