Kevin Smith writing and Kevin Smith directing would be two different things. Seeing as they're different jobs wink He just happens to do both on his own material. While the direction would affect the viewer's perspective on events in the episode, the content would remain the same (so, getting Smith to direct wouldn't mean that Jay and Silent Bob would suddenly pop up).

Personally I think he'd be great directing a couple of episodes. He's an established film director and he's breaking into TV work. He gets a lot of flack but like any personal tastes, his detractors are far more vocal than his supporters rolling_eyes

And anyway, do you know the story behind why Kevin Smith's Superman was so bizarre?

On topic, I'm on the fence about this news. While I agree that Return of the Jedi is one of the weakest films in the franchise, there's no reason to believe that Jim has the same (or lack of) directing style as Richard.

An announcement at all is quite exciting, and I hope to hear more concrete news in the near future.

Nope

He had studio whack jobs breathing down his neck to update everything. To the point of having to insert the words "90's style" whenever he described an aspect of Superman's costume (someone has to be told what Superman's costume looks like?) and Jon Peters' obsession with adding a giant robot spider into the script. Smith left and Peters got his spider... in wild wild west...

If you look at Superman returns DVD special features (assuming you can stay awake through the actual film) they have some of the retarded concept art done for that flick that Smith was told to work on. The "S" on his chest was supposed to be made of detachable knives, for instance...

The best writer in hollywood couldn't work under conditions like that, and Smith isn't the best in hollywood. I don't think it's fair to judge him based on that script. That one was doomed from the start. Thank god it never got made.

Personally, I think it'd be great to have Kevin Smith directing some of the episodes of the LA. That'd just be awesome if you ask me. Just because some of his stuff is goofy, doesn't mean that is what we are going to get when the LA series comes out. Someone pointed out that his writing and directing are two different things, and that's exactly right. If you ask me, he is a phenomenal director who has great talent and a love for Star Wars that would be translated very well on the small screen.

Kevin Smith is a great director and a vivid SW fan. Although his stuff is more funny then serious, he's still made some more serious based films. I think he could ressurect the OT humour we all so miss.

I'm guessing the LA will kinda be like MASH where different people direct different episodes?

I think that's safe to say. A lot of these big hour long shows have a favorite director which they use a lot, but the schedules are way too tough for one person to do it alone.
