Trailer looks pretty sharp- though I echo my preliminary comments that the introduction isn't quite as gripping, but once you get past the plot stuff in the first half, the second half comes across pretty good, but the first trailer from C4 was much, much more exciting and emotional, so it's a shame they couldn't just screen that one in theaters instead.

I saw the trailer on the big screen last night.
I want to be excited about this. I really do. That said, I can't seem to get into it. Some of the dialogue in the trailer (eg. Yoda's) just seems really badly done to me, and I still have trouble seeing this storyline as something strong enough to stand on its own as a film. The animation style may be different and interesting and whatnot, but it also makes it very difficult to empathize with the characters because they don't seem human enough.

Oh, I agree to a certain extent.
Yoda's dialogue I just ignore now, it's so bad.
And the plot is pretty ham-fisted.
I'm actually more excited for the TV show than the theatrical release.

zombie posted: No, because sometimes its not all stiff and amaturish, only in some shots it is. If it was deliberate stylistic choice it would all be done like that--and its highly questionable that someone would make a deliberate stylistic choice to make it look like badly-done CGI animation. Thunderbirds had a totally different sort of movement, and it doesn't look like that. The models sort of do in the way they look sculpted and plasticy, but the animation is not only inconsistent, its also consistent with what happens in television series and lower-grade CG material.
Doesn't Lucas claim that the reason Star Wars dialogue and acting is so bad is because it's supposed to be just as bad as the "old serials" they're based on or somesuch?
So maybe he -would- make it deliberately bad...if the above statement is actually true and not just an excuse he's made up to counter critics.

Lucas just says that to cover up sloppy writing. ANH got nominated for best screenplay and ESB has even better writing than ANH! Not that the films were ever top examples in writing, but this whole "the films are meant to be badly written" really just seems like something Lucas started saying when the prequels got torn apart by critics.

Lucas has stated in several interviews that the Thunderbirds "marionation" design influenced the look of the series in addition into incorporating Tartakovsky's Micro-Series look.
http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2008-04-03-lucas-star-wars_N.htm
posted: "We wanted something more in the realm of anime, design-wise, than was currently on TV or movies outside Japan," Lucas says. But "we wanted to give the look and feel of something that was past," adding that Gerry Anderson's 1960s British Thunderbirds series, featuring talking marionettes, "was an inspiration. We didn't want it to look like Beowulf or The Incredibles."
Also starwars.com/theclonewars/blogs/ has a lot of information on the style of of the new clone wars series.

George is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. I hear the same people who complain about the PT not being about the Clone Wars also complain about this series is a cash in. Maybe it is bad animation, but it looks pretty beautiful in my opinion.
And there is a certain about of hokeyness in all the films, whether they were intended or not.

Different does not equal bad. I prefer stylized animation and visual design of this over the psuedo-realism churned out by so many other animation studios trying to do action. Case in point: Beowulf. Craptasticness of the movie as a whole aside, the hyper-realism made the movie look terrible as well.

Agreed. One of the biggest problems with Beowulf in particular was that it tried to walk a fine line between realistic CGI and a stylized "otherworldly" look, and ultimately it failed miserably on both counts. I'm very pleased with the look of Clone Wars, the quasi-Tartakovsky look gives Clone Wars a fresh look over other CGI fare.

The Thunderbirds wasn't a style, it was a low budget TV show for kids using standard marionettes.
I guess the marionettes in Team America are a style too, or maybe they are just marionettes, hmmmmm?
