WookieeWarrior9 posted: What's so bad about going to Tatooine? When Anakin went there in Ep II, he wasn't supposed to be there to begin with. If Yoda tells him to go, I don't think he's going to say "Well, I don't know, the place brings up a lot of bad memories about my mother and murdering dozens of sandpeople". From the movies we know that Palpatine knows of the the Tusken raiders, but it's likely IMO that he didn't tell the council (yeah, Yoda heard Qui Gon yell that time, but they might not know for sure).
Well, from a story standpoint--the jedi don't know that Anakin's mother is dead. Shouldn't they still be afraid of his "attatchment" issues? They don't really want him out on Tatooine where he could potentially run into his mother...do they?
But in all honesty--for me, it's not so much a plot issue, as a creative one. Why do we need to see Tatooine again? It's been in every movie except for ESB. Storywise, it's served it's purpose. We don't need to see it again.
This is animation! They should be able to go to ANY crazy planet that can be imagined, with no significant impact on the budget! This is a great oppurtunity to REALLY get creative! But instead, they are rehashing.
WookieeWarrior9 posted: And as far as Jabba's son goes, well, what else did you think he would be doing with the lady hutt from Episode I? lol
Hey, Jabba is a player! I bet he has little slug children all over the galaxy! ...but would he really care enough to raise them? Would he really care if they get kidnapped? Come on!

Actually, the whole anakin was a big war hero known by many does not hurt the storyline at all. In the ANH novel, as well as a cut scene from the movie I believe, Red Leader mentions to Luke that he knew his father and that he was a great pilot. So the whole Anakin as being well known has been there from the beginning.

Hey, great point! I never thought about it that way, but this is a perfect opportunity to give Owen Lars a bigger part than he got in the movies. I understand people's reluctance to have Anakin go back to Tatooine, but this is a great opportunity to give Owen some personality and show his resentment towards the Jedi grow. As it stands right now, Owen just looks like some goober at the end of ROTS who gets handed a baby. The series would be the perfect way to give him a little backstory. Explain why Owen doesn't want to even stand close to Obi-Wan when he shows up (Ben hands Luke over to Beru) and basically get the feeling across that Obi-Wan isn't welcome around there anymore.

One thing i'd like to point out is that by the time of the OT Han Solo doesn't even believe in the Force. He can't be the only one. Imperial propaganda machine, anyone? On that line, who cares if Anakin was a Jedi if people don't believe in the force.
Honestly, i don't get the great big freak out about Anakin going back to Tatooine OR Jabba having a son. Small potatoes to me.

I guess by comparison to Yoda giving Anakin a padawan to teach him about possessivenes, indeed that is small potatoes.

So does that mean that you guys think Owen (and Beru) will actually feature in this series? What about Cliegg? Who would be the one interacting with them, if they are? Obi-wan and/or Anakin?
By the way, welcome to the forums Criix! Good post, and good to have you here. If you need anything, let me know!

It would be a nice way to explain how in the world Obi Wan knows where the Lars family is and who they are.

Yes, it would be nice to actually see him meet them, rather than just using the old "he used the Force" excuse. I'd love to see a scene where Owen tries to get Anakin to give up being a Jedi and come back to be a moisture farmer. Something more in keeping with Old Ben's dialouge on Owen from A New Hope.
I've got a really good feeling about this show as well as the live action one. If they get a true fan to write the episodes, I'm sure there will be lots of cool little homages and tie-ins to the films. Just look at the Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicles tv show. It was obviously written by someone who loves the Terminator films and knows them inside and out. All sorts of awesome little tie-ins like seeing Dr. Silberman all nuts after what he witnessed at the mental hospital (T-1000 walking through the prison bars) or introducing Kyle Reese's brother. I think the same might happen with these new Star Wars shows. The people writing them are going to be people who grew up on Star Wars and, hopefully, know it inside and out and are dying to answer all the questions that the prequels raised.

I totally agree that they could go to any planet in the universe. In fact, this is a common complaint amongst fans. We keep running into the same people and the same places, even though they should have no connection to one another. I agree with that.
But I think the bottom line is that Lucas has created these worlds and he like revisiting them. He likes going back to the places he first thought up and adding more to them. What's more, I think a lot of average fans like stories that take place in places and with people that they already know. It gives them a feeling of familiarity. I think a lot of average fans like that.
I also think that GL's SW universe just isn't as expansive as we would all like to believe. I know this is a "universe" so it should be huge, but it's really limited to a fairly small number of locations which GL originally thought up. I just don't think he expected to create this vast universe. In his head, almost everything happens in a set number of places. And really, it's his sandbox. We're just playing in it.
As for Jabba, it's actually a fairly common plot point to have a criminal boss care about nothing and nobody except his own spawn. Children give people a sense of immortality. Jabba won't live forever, but he will in his children. It's really not that far-fetched to think that Jabba would indeed care about his child, who would presumably be his successor.

While I know he's not technically a writer, this is one reason why it is so awesome to see Dave Filoni leading this project.

I'm assuming they're hitting Tatooine just as an intro to the series - put it in a familiar locale, with familiar characters....

Keep in mind that the trailers we've seen is presumably just for the movie. Tatooine's as good as any place to go for the movie. We'll see other planets as time goes on.
