Questions about new Star Wars t.v. series
|
Hey guys, I was wondering if someone could explain how these new Star Wars t.v. series are going to come out? Ok, I've heard about the new Clone Wars 3D cartoon series (which, I assume, takes place between Episodes II and III) coming to t.v. on the cartoon network this fall. But then I read about Clone Wars appearing in theaters on August 15th; if it's going to be on the cartoon network, then why is it going to be in theaters? Doesn't seem to make sense.
Plus we have a separate Star Wars live action t.v. series that is due out sometime next year, right? This one takes place after the events in Episode III, is that correct?
Thanks for any info.

Hey mate.
The new animated Clone Wars television series is indeed airing on the cartoon network in the fall and does take place between Episodes II & III. However, a movie so far entitled Star Wars: The Clone Wars is out in cinemas on August 15th. This movie is effectively the pilot episode of the forthcoming TV series. Whether it is the first few episodes strung together or a longer individual piece is yet to be known, but it will be seen on the big screen. Once it's out for a month or two, the television series will then continue the clone wars action.
The reason behind it being on the big screens is really to push cinematic boundaries even further. Imagine if popular television shows starting airing their series' pilots in the cinemas. People would love them.
It's also cool.
Here was the official announcement of these developments, by the way.
In regards to the live action series (LAS), it is currently slotted to be released in 2010. You are correct about the timeline, however. This thread on these very forums would probably contain a lot of information you might enjoy.

Tyi-Maet_Nefer: Ah, ok, that makes sense for the pilot of the Clone Wars cartoon. As far as the live action series, man, 2 years is a long wait. Hopefully this means Lucas is taking his time and the quality will be very high. Thanks for the details.

It would seem that the movie is not going to be the first few episodes that Cartoon Network airs. That's not to say they won't, but press releases certainly worded it in a way that made me think that the series will pick up after the movie.

Anyone know if that trailer is for the movie coming to the theater or is it a trailer for the whole series?
Cheers in advance!

I believe that the trailer is for the theatrical debut of the series, not the series as a whole.

It looks like the movie will be the first few episodes combined, but the wording has been kind of unclear, implying both possible outcomes at different times. At the very least, there may be exclusive content added to the first few episodes, or a new introduction of some kind, for the theatrical release.
Trailer wise, the latest trailer is for just the events in the movie (focusing on the Hutt storyline), however the earlier trailer from last year is for the series as a whole (including scenes also appearing in the movie), so that one has elements (like Grievous and the Death Star-like superlaser) that probably in subsequent episodes of the series.
