from TFN:
Most of the stuff is from McQuarrie, but looks like they've used the original concepts for Asajj, which is cool.

Thanks for posting this! Very nice! Although the only one I could see clearly was the first one because the other ones are pretty small.

This was a really great article. What amazes me the most is that this is only from the trailer; just think what we'll be getting in the movie!
Even if I end up absolutely hating the final film (which I hope won't ever happen), that won't dampen my appreciation for the effort they put into designing the structures/scenery/locations.

Went through and read that article finally...very cool stuff. I never would have spotted that stuff. Granted, I've never seen much of RMQ's drawings, but I also don't have that watchful of an eye.

I just listened to your input on the ForceCast (June 13th) while I'm here at work. It was a pleasure listening to you talk to the guys and I look forward to exploring the website.
I'm also going to have to watch the Quidditch scene in the first Harry Potter film again to get a glimpse of your acting talents!
Welcome to the boards.

Incidentally, just click on the actual TFN article, the photos all pop-up in bigger size, for some reason they didn't work when I posted the direct links.

Lol - my acting talents are pretty non existent. Definitely not worth making any effort to check out anyway!
Glad you liked the show, it was nice to finally pop by.
Ralph's new site is penciled for a relaunch around the end of July - hope you like it. Sorry to have kept folks waiting, but it's been a busy year!

A lot of those examples aren't really Ralph-influences- it's just Clone Wars using set design and such elements that were in the movies, which I would think would be fully expected.
However, some are Ralph- some of which were made for The Illustrated SW Universe book in the 90's, IIRC.

And which were concept art for the movies (I'm not sure there were any original works in that book).

You're right- I knew much was original concept art but I mistook work by other concept artists for new pieces.

Some ended up in the Illustrated universe, but started out as sketches for the movies. I've seen the originals and they're dated

Just to correct myself a little after my little visit on the Forcecast . . .
In case there's any confusion - the 'lighting designs' and 'back entrance to Jabba's Palace' were sketched by Ralph for ROTJ, they just weren't fully rendered as paintings until he worked on the 'Star Wars Illustrated Universe'.
It also looks like the gate C3P0 and R2 use in Jedi is actually the BACK entrance. So Ralph's art/ the version we see in the Clone Wars movie is actually the FRONT.
Hope that makes sense.
Stay happy.

I love how with the prequel trilogy, so many of the early Ralph McQuarrie designs were revisited and implemented. Due to time, money, and technology constraints while making the original trilogy, lots of ideas simply had to be abandoned and shelved. Seeing them reborn with the new films was so satisfying. Being able to explore them even further in an animated format and perhaps the live action series is even more exciting and another nod to the revolutionary insight of Ralph McQuarrie.
