I wouldn't say that. I think he just abides to the "certain point of view" code.

But to be fair, I don't think e ever said he NEVER EVER considered doing 9 films at one point, only that this is not a plan he really actively pursued.

I'm curious as to when this Secret History of Star Wars was published? I never heard anything about 12 films but I did hear a lot about the 9 films back in the 80's, as I pointed to about a page back. And that was from LFL itself. happy

The 12 films was mentioned in the late '70's by Lucas himself in various interviews, then amended to 9 films in the early '80's.

Lucas talked about a sequel trilogy in Time Magazine in 1983.(I used to own a copy).

This third trilogy talk is nice (i.e, lame) , but what I'd really want to know is if there is any new official info on the l.a series. What stage are at so far, still working on scripts?

dude the live action ain"t coming out till 2011 or 12.
Rombuis and the other guy is right, they did mention 12 movies back in the day. it was in starlog 109. It was the tenth star wars anniversary issue. GL had 12 movies that he wanted to do, but then scaled it down to 9.
Is GL a liar? Nope

He is a switch hitter. He'll do whatever he has to do to keep the cash cow coming. Look at what the clone wars did in just the first season. Not talking about ratings, but of merchandise selling........number 1 for all toys in 2008

I am surprised at the volume of fans who seem to have no idea that there was once "going to be" a sequel trilogy. When I was a kid and got into Star Wars (early 90s), it was common knowledge. To anyone interested in the sequel trilogy, I'd definitely recommend The Secret History (there's a great appendix dedicated solely to discussion of the purported sequels). Also, Wookieepedia has a solid write-up about them.

I could have sworn that an old, old version of StarWars.com (from like 1997) had a collage picture on its homepage, overlaid by roman numerals. The classic trilogy ones led to pages about those films, and the Episode I link had some previews about the new film. And there were the numerals for 7, 8, and 9, right there after ROTJ. Alas, I can't find any evidence of this on the net. I even checked archive.org.

If George Lucas himself doesn't want to direct, he should pass it on to other GOOD directors like Steven Spielberg and JJ Abrams, etc

I think Spielberg for an episode or two would be a great choice.

Steven Spielberg hasn't directed a decent movie in at least 15 years, JJ Abrams has only directed two movies in his career, and both were terrible.

Star Trek terrible? I mean, I hate that franchise with a passion, but that movie was amazing.

I would imagine he would do it in a second, too. JJ is a big SW fan.

Didn't hate Star Trek at all (at least the Kirk era stuff), but wasn't a big fan of it. The new film, as the posters above me have said, was amazing.

You're misunderstanding me once again. In fact, this is basically the same question you asked me yesterday. I'll repeat my answer.

I do want there to be the live-action series, I just don't want TV to be the only future of Star Wars as George Lucas says it is.
