I NEVER said it was impossible for Darth Vader to show up in the LAS. I do think that, if he does, he won't be the main villain, but more of a background presence. So when you put all those stupid statements to my name, I take offense. I always make an effort to separate fact from opinion. Very little of what is said around here is fact, so we can't really say someone is wrong or not, we can just say we don't like their opinion.

It'll be about EU (extended universe) characters and there'll be no good or bad guys, only grey in grey... Just like in real life. They have it from the horses mouth, so they can't be wrong... You simply have to hope that GL changes his mind...

I hope they reconsidered the whole thing for whatever reason. Although wasn't there some recent report about it still supposedly being in the works? I would like to see it turn out to be a cover for new films.

Gry Sarth posted:Oh, my. You do like to champion lost causes that very few people would like to see, don't you? I admit that a decade ago the idea of a Star Wars live-action series sounded to me like a very bad one, it just couldn't work. But since then TV series have evolved considerably. It's a very highly-regarded medium now, with amazing production values and top actors wanting to get involved in it. Plus, the brightest moments of the Clone Wars series showed that the Star Wars formula can work very well on small-screen weekly doses. A live-action series now does seem like the logical evolutionary step for the franchise to make. I only hope they handle it well.
Gry Sarth posted:Yeah.. what was I thinking? A smuggler could naver make for a compelling and popular hero. It would be as preposterous as expecting the greatest adventure hero of all time to be an... archeologist or something like that. Also, try and stop taking people's statements as absolutes. I haven't yet heard anybody saying that the show should be all gray with no good or evil anywhere to be seen, or a dull mundane underworld tale with no excitement or battles. Sure, the general idea is of a grittier, less black vs white storyline, but that doesn't mean there won't be bad and good guys, bad guys turning good and vice-versa. The era this show is situated in means there is no galactic war going on, so you can't expect huge battles on a weekly basis. However, that doesn't rule out smaller skirmishes and eventually you might get a bigger battle as a planet foolishly tries to escape the Empire's clutches and so on. This show seems to be shaping up to be different, but it's STILL Star Wars, and that means adventure and excitement. It's just that there are more ways to get that besides Jedi battling Sith and entire planets blowing up all the time.

After all your teasing of people's ignorance of the movies, I didn't think I would have to explain to you how Episode III ended. Palpatine had the entirety of the Separatist droid army deactivated and all their leaders were swiftly killed. With no army and no leadership, I don't think any remaining Separatists could put up more than, well, a small skirmish, like I mentioned. As for the Republic being out of high-ranking leadership, don't forget that they have plenty of people like Admiral Yularen who are certainly not simple-minded.

The local leaders would take over, and seeing how their leaders where killed by the Republic, when they wanted to surrender, I doubt they'll be easily convinced to end their resistance... Now with possible Jedi survivors to support their cause! What about the Confederate Navy? and Droids can be re-activated, you know.
ThePriminister posted:I was watching E3 coverage on G4 about a month ago and after they premiered the trailer for The Old Republic MMO one of the hosts of Attack of the Show and several others at E3, were told there will be a HUGE Star Wars official announcement at Comic-Con 2009, in San Diego. It is in three weeks and I have tickets, one of them is Friday, which is Star Wars day every year at Comic-Con, so it's a good bet the big announcement will be at the Lucasfilm panel on Friday. I really do think it's going to be the live-action series. I know for a fact from multiple sources that writing is happening and it is being developed. They said it will be a huge and significant announcement, and doesn't have to do with the Clone Wars animated series as they already have stuff there about season 2. And it isn't The Old Republic I'm sure, as the announcement for that was E3 and they(even The Old Republic developers) specifically said that it was a major Star Wars announcement, not an Old Republic announcement. I'm pretty confident it has something to do with the live-action series.

There's nothing wrong with introducing a character people don't know about. "Here's a Naval Admiral, you'll get to know him better as the show progresses". At the beginning of TCW we didn't know anything about Yularen (other than that he would eventually sit in a table with Tarkin), that doesn't mean he popped out of nowhere...

Now with possible Jedi survivors to support their cause! What about the Confederate Navy? and Droids can be re-activated, you know. No, I don't think the systems that made up the CIS would put up much of a fight. To give a real-world example, if you took the USA, the world's uncontested military dominat power, and suddenly vanished with all its command staff, generals, jetplanes, tanks helicopters and trained soldiers, they wouldn't really stand a chance against any half-decent army in the world. I doubt Palpatine allowed the Confederate planets to keep their deactivated droids long enough for them to find a way to reprogram the buggers. Also, where did you hear about the Separatist leaders wanting to surrender? But the point is, we already HAD the war against the Separatists. That's what TCW was about, as well as most of Ep2 and 3. That story is over, it was all a scam and they were wiped out. It makes no sense to keep on beating this dead horse in the new series. They need to find something of a new angle for this to work, it can't be just filling in blank spaces left by continuinty.
