I think a cross between X-Wing series and Bounty Hunters series would do well.

Now THAT's my Star Wars.

I really don't see any concept working better in this timeframe than a "Seeds of Rebellion" storyline. You can start small, with some ragtag group facing the imps and other scum, and slowly, season by season, it builds into full-fledged Rebellion. You can easily add bounty hunters either hunting these outlaws or being hired by them, you can get snubfighter encounters, bar brawls, everything. And if some escaping Jedi does show up, he would naturally ally himself with this group (until he gets swiftly snuffed).

That's a very good idea for a quality show... This ragtag group could also join up with Seperatist holdouts at first, so that the possiblity for large scale battles with the imps was there. Garm Bel Iblis, Mon Mothma and Bail Organa springs to mind.

Quinlan Vos is supposed to be in this, right?

It would be interesting to see Jedi in this series who got rid of their lightsabers and became bounty hunters/smugglers.

There really shouldn't be any Jedi hanging around, IMO. We have just left that era, lets see the transition of a "Noble" society to a more "Uncivilized" age.

Why, why, why... Should the few surviving Jedi become bounty hunters or smugglers. They found the use of blasters uncivilized and they are forbidden to actually own anything, it would be against everything they stood for...

Please stay focused!

Well, for your information, there were actually Jedi who didn't feel much like fighting, but rather preferred to blend into the crowds. One of them even decided matters of survival (albeit not resorting to excessive crimes, just ones like pickpocketing and gambling) trumped Jedi teachings, and decided to put down his blade until when the time was right.

Thing is, Jedi aren't cut and pasted cookie cutter products, despite the potential rigidity of the Order. Some are inclined to die in a last stand, opposing the empire with all they have, others would rather forget the whole ordeal and just move on. And of course, you've got the Jedi in-between who want to do the right thing while staying 'under the radar', not drawing attention to themselves.

Jedi are sentients too. They're just as susceptible to being different from one another and feeling various things despite their teachings. They aren't robots. It's what relates them to the clones they lead. tongue

I think it's tough to make a claim about what "the essence of Star Wars" is. Part of the reason Star Wars is so popular is that it speaks to so many different people on plenty of different levels. It's because there are so many different ways to look at it--and different things people can have as their focal point when they think "Star Wars"--that allows it to be perennially popular.

I agree with everything you said. I recon I expressed myself in the wrong way.

I wasn't specifically referring to the messages, meanings and morals of the OT, although to be honest, the biggest contrast between the OT and the NT is that one works as a metaphor and the other one is as shallow as a puddle. At least that's the way I perceive it.

What I meant was the general aesthetics that characterized the OT, everything just felt different. The way the stories were executed, the way the spectator perceived this new unknown universe and how you became part of it. Even though technology and special effects were a big part of the OT they were used as tools to tell a story, while in the NT the special fx are basically what you seem to be supposed to focus on. The NT is visually dazzling but ultimately poor in terms of content.

Exactly. It would also help show how far the Jedi have fallen.

The Jedi didn't fall they were KILLED, if you are Force sensitive but don't follow the Jedi teachings, then you're not a JEDI. Count Dooku wasn't a Jedi anymore, he turned away from the teachings and so did Anakin/Vader by marrying Amidala, thus leading him towards the dark side...

In the Old Trilogy there was only two known JEDI still alive: Obi Wan and Yoda. Leia is Force sensitive, but that doesn't make her a JEDI. Luke is the first new Padawan in decades and he doesn't become a Jedi before he defeats Vader.

Oh, come on, let's not discuss semantics here. A Jedi is a Jedi until he renounces the order. Any surviving Jedi can still call themselves as such, even if they've done nothing but drink themselves silly since Order 66. It's not like anyone went around confiscating their membership cards. Yoda and Obi-Wan might be the only remaining Jedi only if you look exclusively to the films. But since we're talking about an EU TV series, we must broaden our perception.

OK, let's broaden our perception. If a Jedi wanted to survive the Jedi Purge he had to go away to places like Dagobah or Tatooine to remain safe. The eyes and ears of the Emperor would be everywhere ready to turn every Force sensisitive person in.

A fallen drunk Jedi is an easy kill, signed Darth Vader...

Nobody's contesting that. A fallen drunken Jedi would be an easy kill for the Emperor's minions. Is there anything wrong with showing an easy kill on the LAS? It would be exactly what was mentioned above: show how much the Jedi have fallen. There must be a reason why someone like Han would think this whole Jedi and Force thing was load of rubbish only a couple of decades after the fall of the order.

Come to think of it, I would LOVE to see such a scene:
After almost a full season of a completely Jedi-free LAS, the fanboys are pissing their pants at the prospect that one HAS to show up by now. And then, BAM! A Jedi shows up in the cantina, ignites his saber, the fanboys jump in excitement, but just as quickly the Jedi stumbles a bit and is quickly mowed down by a local guard. Done. That's your precious Jedi, folks. They are DONE.

QFT.

The Emperor/Empire wouldn't care if they learned that someone like a bounty hunter was a Jedi. He'd given up the old ways, there'd be no reason to do anything about him.

Yeah, it would be OC for Palpatine to care about the Jedi at this point.
