I just found the clone trooper that I want to make. "Coruscant Guard Leader, Commander Fox" and I have some really good ideas on how to make it way more fexable then any clone or storm trooper I've ever seen before.

This is my first post. happy

I recently bought an X-wing pilot helmet from Richie's Armor and it arrived just yesterday. I was a bit underwhelmed when I took it out of the box - especially considering how expensive it was. I was wondering if anyone on here has done an X-wing helmet before and would be able to help me fix mine. The main problem is the visor and interior of the helmet. I'm going to take some photos soon so you can see what I mean.

Lord_Robert would be the one to talk to. I believe he has one of those helmets and is fixing it up.

I'm more into the fabric costumes/accessories.

Thanks. Hopefully he'll be on here sometime soon so I can see what advice he has.

FYI I plan on revamping my entire X-wing costume. It wasn't bad for Halloween, but it isn't that authentic, so I'm planning on making it screen accurate, one piece at a time. I plan on working on the flak vest next. This is me and my nephew at the children's library.

I know of a few high quality shops that sells pilot parts. I'll double check their websites to ensure that they still carry them.

My X-wing helmet is a Rubie's. It's an injected rubber with yellow viser. I haven't done anything with it to make it accurate. They are very poorly made but with a lot of work they can be made to look good. It's a labour of love to get them that way too.

I'll bring mine with me on Sunday.

I had planned on making it out tonight (Jan 4) but something has come up. Hopefully I'll see you at the next meeting.

Rebellaka.
I sent you an e-mail from my personal address giving you e-mail addresses to 2 people in the 501st that have Admiral Daala costumes. There seems to be a couple of costumes. The officers uniform and people are not sure if it's gray or green. Then there's the flight suit. Here's some web site given to me by 501st people.

The Imperial Officer Detachment has some good info on it, I don't know if non-members can access this detachment;

http://www.imperialofficer.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=30

a quick google search, revealed this site;

http://www.geocities.com/mathura108/daala.html

The jumpsuit version;

In short a standard Naval Officers Uniform, with long brown hair and an Admiral Ranks plate, should work, no hat.

Daala's bio;

I actually found The Imperial Officer Detachment on my own, and emailed the address on the 501st page that talks about accepted costumes. They sent me the same link. happy It looks like the accepted colour for Daala's Officer's uniform is olive green. I hate that colour, but I'm told it does look good on me.

I have been thinking of holding a seminar at the Garrison shortly after the May celebration. This would be about costuming - similar to what's been done in the past at the Garrison. I'm sure people would be interested to learn about what resources are out there, what vacu-forming is, how to do weathering, that sort of thing. I'm thinking more of an information session about SW costuming in general, with invitations to the public to bring questions - or even their own costumes for advice on improvement. Just an information session to begin with for anyone interested in making a high-end SW costume.

I'm thinking we could also develop a reference library at the Garrison for all of the canon costumes, not just troopers. This would mean capturing photos from the internet and/or DVDs, as well as compiling books with lots of photos.

Perhaps this type of seminar can lead into other things later like a paid workshop on vacu-forming armour or helmets (like you did with the mini stormtrooper armour). Or a paid workshop on how to build your own lightsaber.

What do you think?

I like the idea of the workshops. We could promote them and hand out flyers at the May celebration.

The referance library sounds good too. It would take a lot of work to put everything into books.

I see us as being mentors in a way for those interested in trooping or SW costuming.

The library project could be ongoing. I was thinking it could start with maybe acquiring a few of the published books such as The Essential Guide to Characters, or any of the Visual Guides with the intention of eventually having a library of all the stuff. The books could be reference only, which means they don't leave the premises.

We could start compiling information on various characters and sorting it into file folders to begin with - and perhaps into albums later. We all know how frustrating it can be coming up with good reference photos. I'm thinking of some sort of scrapbook on each character. But for now, it could be done with putting photos, print outs, etc. into file folders.

And for those of us who have made costumes, we could even include how we did it, and list our sources for parts - or "borrow" ideas from others in the RL or 501st (giving them credit too). I know that I myself have spent hours and hours searching for information and sources for the various parts of the X-wing Pilot costume.

I'm thinking big again, but we could start small and see if there's interest in the community in having such a costuming resource.

We can gauge interest in the costuming workshop idea at the May celebration - and definitely have material to give out.

That's kind of what I did with the clones and troopers on the walls. It would be good to something better.

Yes, that's where I got the idea from. But expanding it beyond clone/storm troopers.
