The Scorpion King was naff, But I have both the Mummy films.
Part 1 is better, but part 2 is very funny and has great action sequences.
I have heard the thris is very different and won't have the same cast, so I think it might not work.

Brendan Fraser returns but that's about it. I have very little hope or expectations for it; Indy 4 will be king!
Watched the documentary film Touching the Void last night on DVD, and it's quite an extraordinary real life tale very well told. Highly recommend it if you want something a bit different and yet still gripping.
Also watched Perfume a few nights ago and I also really enjoyed that. I believe it's the most expensive European film to date, and you can see why as it looks very lush. Thankfully the quality of the story matches too and is perfectly set to John Hurts narration.
I have an ever growing pile of DVDs I need to watch, some of which I've had for 6 months still untouched (disgraceful). I aim to get through them this month

Watched Charlie Wilson's War last night and enjoyed it in a political comedy/drama sort of way. I think this one could be grouped with the current "War on Terror" films and is easily the best, and of cause delves in the earlier development of the problem(s) and for that makes it a lot more interesting. Great performances too, making it very engaging and Amy Adams is incredibly sweet & gorgeous!
With a bit of luck I might catch No Country For Old Men (or perhaps No Country for Jamie Richards) this week which is getting rave reviews. I also downloaded via iTunes the score for There Will be Blood, written by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead fame (which reminds me I really need to get their new album too). Needs a few listens and always helps to have it in context with the actual visuals of the film, but once it gets under your skin it's great. Can't wait to see the film in February, I'm counting down the days!

lol, I made the same joke using my Uncle as the victim and he didn't appreciate it much either
I did get to watch No Country for Old Men last night and it is quite an exceptional film.
It really peaks at the mid-point (an hour into the film) where two of the main characters finally meet, so to speak, and it's an incredibly tense and bloody affair, brilliantly executed. In fact the first hour is brilliant stuff as it slowly but surely gathers speed. However, I do feel the second half is slightly weaker and the ending doesn't have the closure you felt it deserves to have, but apparently the novel it's based on is exactly the same so it would feel harsh to downgrade it for that.
Visually stark but effective, the complete lack of a soundtrack bar a few rumbles now and again works a treat. Fantastic performance from all, including Scot Kelly Macdonald complete with a deep (but convincing) Southern accent, and even though you're meant to hate the main evil protagonist, possibly one of the nastiest characters ever, you can't help but to admire his methods. And on the flip side, you can't help but to wille the anti-hero of the piece to victory.
Go see it, there should be some previews this Sat & Wed if your cinema has the guts to buy it in! And despite being a 15 certificate, it should really be an 18.

I want to see that also.
I hear that Sweeney Todd is going to be 18 rated. This seems odd for a musical, even if it is gothic. Musicals are usually meant for general audiences or at least for people of young teen age (11-15).
Still, a proper gothic dark violent musical should be good, after the disappointingly average Phantom of the Opera.

I too was surprised by the 18 certificate, but on reflection it's hardly a surprise due to the lots of blood and cutting of the throats, not to mention what they actually did with the meat afterwards, so an 18 cert is probably about right. I don't think being a musical matters a jot and there's no rule saying that they have to appeal to the kids too....think of it as a musical for adults
I'm glad it's gotten an 18 as it means no pesky kids seeing it at the cinema. The BBFC mucked up on the certs for Beowulf, St Trinian's, This is England and No Country for Old Men, so 'bout time they got something right.

I haven't really looked into St Trinians, so I was not aware it had content that should give it more then a 12A. I agree Beowulf was not appropriate for under 15s, and I thought No Country would be higher rated also.
Still, at least the new AVP is an 18

It's Aliens slaughtering people and Predators hunting them. On top of that there is a PredAlien.
What's not to like?

Hell yeah. I'm going to watch it for the body count and the fights between the aliens and the predator. Don't even care how good/bad the acting is

Well, the ALien & Predator don't act, and I doubt the humans will be in it long enough to do any major acting.

In spite of negative reviews, I perservered, and watched Aliens versus Predator: Requiem, and, after a shaky start, enjoyed the heck out of this film!
For years, I waited for the Alien franchise to reach Earth, with promises being broken from Alien 3 onwards, and this exceeded by expectations. Loved it.
I would be surprised if the ending for Resident Evil 2 did not provide some inspiration, but I won't hold that against the Brothers Strausse.

Wasn't the first AVP set on Earth?
I also watched the film and thought it was better then part 1. The first film tried too hard to have a plot, and the whole Predator sides with humans thing was not good IMO.
AVP:R removes this problem. If the humans get in the way of either Predator or the Aliens, they are swiftly killed. It is not a film of substance, it simply delivers what it should - Alien & Predator beating the pulp out of each other. These are both very original creations and are well used.
The Aliens are no longer scary and the Predator has way too much tech, but it is still fun.

AVP:R does what it says on the tin really. If you can leave your brain at the door before you entre the auditorium, then you'll be fine.
I did see some bits of Sweeney Todd yesterday mind, and what I saw was fantastic. Hope to see the film fully either this coming Thursday, Friday or Saturday
Not long now until There Will be Blood is released. I will hamper on about this film until I see it (and no doubt after I've seen it) because I have extremely high hopes for it!!
