So, I assume No County got the thumbs-up in the Richards house hold??
I've heard good thing about Cloverfield too, so maybe I can start getting a bit excited about it now.
Just read the BBFC classification report too and it's gotten a 15 and runs at 84 mins in total. Always nice to have a 5 reeler

I was rather annoyed at the decision not to screen No Country at work. That and Before the Devil Knows are both meant to be fine films. It is foolish to lose business just because Odeon assume non-blockbusters won't sell.

Cloverfield has a good story, but is TOTALLY let down by the camerawork. Ruins what could have been a good film

Isn't it meant to be badly filmed on handheld cameras?
The Blair Witch Project had dodgy camerawork, but it was still good.

Was this an illegal download viewing, Hal??
It is filmed with camcorders (or in the style of at any rate) and that is a big aspect of the film. I think seeing it at a cinema with an audience would certainly play its part too, but I'll wait until I've seen it to form a final opinion (which might be next week).
There were plans to have some midnight showings for its release, but Paramount said no.
It's a shame your cinema didn't get No Country, Richie. It's performed very well considering it's a proper film, so hopefully the film buying departments will take note. It's a real shame There Will be Blood will also not get a huge release, although I'm sure National Treasure 2 will be flooded everywhere and anywhere

Most likely.
Big names sell, regardless of quality. I can see Rambo being big.
And great films that are less known may not be noticed by the general public. If they don't watch review shows or only read red top papers (which like rubbish films and dislike decent films half the time) they will most likely only know about the big-budget movies.
That is the trouble with moviegoers today, too easily they are impressed by fancy stunts and effects and less by acting and quality film-making.

Glad you liked it Sie. What do you think the outcome of that final coin toss was??
I had the pleasure of seeing Sweeney Todd today and it was a pleasure because I blooming loved it
What!!!! Me liking a musical!! Yes, I'm no lover of musicals but this got me, it got me bad. I think this is down to numerous reasons, one large one being that they didn't break into stupid dance routings while singing. Another being that the songs had actual relevance to the story and great lyrics. Visually the film is a wonder, paying tribute to its theatrical roots with its painty backgrounds, which worked a treat. Great performances from all (Timothy Spall looked more respectable in this then he did when I saw him last Week in Ramsgate) and once again Tim Burton has produced a film clearly showing someone on top of their game and in his element. Another stand-out feature of the film is the great attention of focus on the character's eyes, which do almost 75% of the acting.
I also had a very nice Jalapeno burger from Tootsies before-hand.

Death. I'm pretty sure he wiped the blood from his feet after leaving the house

Watched Juno yesterday, and I must say I thought it was pretty awful.
The acting was average, the story was predictable and it wasn't all that funny.
I can't see how it's in the running for Oscars.

I'd like to see Juno but doubt I'll get the chance. Of cause until I do see it, I can't pass judgement but that's the first negative comment I've come across for it, lol.
Finished reading the latest Empire mag and it was a good one. It's made me actually look fairly forward to Hell Boy 2, although I reckon they should have made it in Spanish as Guillermo Del Toro's English films tend to be poor counter-parts to his Spanish ones.
The article about the Hobbit was also very interesting, especially as I read this week Del Toro (again) had a meeting with New Line and Jackson, so my money is on him to direct and I'd be quite happy about that, but again they should make it in Spanish
Not long to go now until There Will be Blood is out, and it got 5-stars from Empire. So did Cloverfield though, which based on everything I've read and heard sounds very generous, especially as it's far from original like they claim, on may fronts.

Newsnight Review did Cloverfield last night, and only one of the four critics liked it.
It's a no-brainer film, doesn't strike me as particularly well made, but it entertains like AVP does. And that should be what matters.

Loved Sweeney, and really loved Cloverfield - I just don't think you can compare it to something like AVP2 (which I enjoyed for what it was worth - stupid action romp). Cloverfield felt to me something special, and I can't post what it felt like because I won't give anything away, but once Matt and Jamie have watched it, I may say to them since they'll know what I am on about, I think. Though I think Matt may not enjoy the film as much as Jamie lol.
