we saw cloverfiled last night, and once i got over the tingles of watching the star trek trailer on the big screen- i am not even a star trek fan,ironically-i got sucked into the shaky-cam world of cloverfield.
okay,so the whole hand-held thing is just a gimmick, but not one that the whole film hangs on...so good show there.
again, won't say too much til matt's seen it,but loved the monster reveal, loved the plot structure, hated the cast, loved the music at the very end.
what was the message under the static at the very end?

Think the shaky cam thing did what it was supposed to - a "what if" for the YouTube generation. Bit like the alien reveal on Shyamalan's "Signs" via a family camcorder
(speaking of which - is his new film "The Happening" going down similar lines?
Let's blank out something so you can see Jamie, do the "left-click and drag across" the black patch Jamie
### Spoilers in black, don't do that magic reveal until you have seen the film
1) I think what was said was either "We are still alive" or words to that effect, not 100% sure and not seen it on the net yet.
2) The thing I wanted to discuss with you was this - have you read BPRD Vol. 5 - The Black Flame? Did that feel like Cloverfield for a while when you see the smaller critters come off the big Cloverfield monster, it sent shivers down my spine.
3) Those critters, according to production notes (I'll link em when people have seen the film), are just parasites, and the monster isn't Cthulhian-like according to the director in interviews.
C'mon Matt, u have to see it lol!

I'll try my best Tim
Although due to the nature of my work I've seen bits and pieces and you'll be pleased to know that I can safely say I was quite impressed with what I saw, so I think I'll like it
Mark Kermode also commented on how annoying the characters are but consequently you feel they got what they deserved, lol.
I concur with you Jamie on seeing the Star Trek trailer on the big screen and it even brought a lump to my throat
Was the HellBoy 2 trailer also attached to your trailer set??

I've seen Cloverfield's credits about 8 times, and I still am unsure what was is said at the end.
A suprising amount of people have said that Cloverfield makes them feel sick. This is odd to me as the camera stuff is not that bad. And the violence is nowhere near as graphic as Sweeney Todd.

people are pussies,richie.
hey,on the subject of cloverfield,tim... i think the thing you're refering to,and the similar in bprd comes from the fact that the idea of the monster is taken from, although not exclusively, some enemy of godzilla who shares similar traits...
it was said in early web teasers that this was going to be the case, but i think they've just taken the idea.
and no,they didn't show the hellboy trailer, but i saw it on empires website.
...and hot damn, does it look great?
speaking of empire, when i saw the cover on the newstands,a little tear welled up inside me.
ron perlman will have his day,at last.

I need to watch the first HellBoy film on DVD again, see if it's matured somewhat like a fine wine (or fruit cake).
The Cloverfield monster isn't a million miles away from the monster in The Host, but from what I've seen I think it looks pretty darn good and a bit like a bat.
I watched The Water Horse: Leg-end of the Deep last night and it weren't half bad. Yes, it's a family film but with its World War II setting, quite sombre moments, overall good CG and animation and nicely played romantic links, I think it does what it's meant to do quite well.
I also received some news on the Indy 4 trailer today

I believe it was WETA who did the effects for Water Horse.
I only fear it because it looks likely to be a massively popular family film

Not sure if it will be that massive. Our print is a used American one which is usually an indication of how well a film has done (or hasn't) State-side, although I think it will have a more natural home here in the UK, a la Stardust.
I hope it does well though as it was a pleasant enough film.
Thankfully I was spared having to watch Nation Treasure 2: Book of Pants last night. Eight reels of Nicolas Cage **shudders at the thought**

I forsee Water Horse being a very big family film.
National Treasure will attract people like The Mummy series did, regardless of how good it is.
This new Daniel Day Lewis film looks good.

Only a few more days to go until There Will be Blood!!
I saw Cloverfield last night and you'll be please to know Tim & Jamie that I liked it very much. I think it did what it did very well and there's some great things to admire from it. The balance was pretty much spot-on, both in-terms of how much of the monster you got to see and when you saw it, and the romantic story element which was needed but was done in a slightly less Hollywood manor then what others may have done (which is a very good thing!)
So all-in-all it get the big thumbs up from me and the end credits track is BRILLIANT!!!!
Tim, I think you're about what's said at the end. And as mentioned in the regional forum thread, you do see something fall into the Ocean when the camera is looking out from Cony Island. Clever stuff.

The news was its release date (which now seems irrelevant ), and it should be attached to Jumper as of tomorrow (if you want to see it on the big screen). The jury is still out on the trailer though....
Now onto bigger news; this morning I saw There Will be Blood and will be seeing it again tomorrow. I think I will save final judgement until my second viewing, but I will say that it was quite a profound experience I can tells ya!
It's hard to really pin-point, but it's not quite like watching a film. The first 20 minutes, sans dialogue, is quite majestic. In fact the first hour glides through beautifully. The second-half needs my attention a bit more, and there are still some questions I need answering but that's the beauty of it.
On a final note, for now, Daniel Day Lewis is beyond superb in this. You watch him in total, total awe and he's pretty much in every scene of what is a 2-and-a-half hour film. For me, the best performance ever!
I urge everyone to go see it. You'll get something out of it, good or bad.

surely someone has already made that gag?
anyway,i might try and catch it tomorrow,it's a film frenzy this weekend,i can tell you.
i'm still loving the indy trailer...
loving it.

Yes, I'd advise everyone NOT to see the likes of Jumper (which by all account is pretty bad), National Trust 2:Return of the Horse-faced one and the Bucket List (can't use my code-name for that one) and go see There Will be Blood instead. Even if you hate it it'll be much more worth your while. I didn't get to see it again on Friday but will see it the week after next, and I can't wait because this film has really got under my skin and I think it is a masterpiece. I'm also keen to discuss it with people, so come on, don't be tempted by that commercial cliché ridden pap.
On that front.... I (finally) got to see Die Hard 4.less last night, and I must hasten to add I didn't buy for it was a gift from work. I'm glad I didn't have to use my hard earned cash to pay for it, because it was tosh! I take all my negative comments about Transformers back; this was much, much worse. Was it the horribly clichéd computer hacking geeks that got me wound-up?? The rubbish story?? The bad guy that was about as threatening as an over-cooked fish finger?? The terrible action scenes that were just stupid, OTT nonsense?? Well, it was all of that and then some more. Why!!!!????

Jumper is entertaining, but the cast are awful (apart from Mr Jackson).
I second Jonathan Ross' comments on Film 2008, why Hayden keeps being cast in lead roles is beyond me.
Rachael Bilson is nice to look at, but lacks a lot in the acting department also.
I want to see There Will Be Blood, it looks very good.
