There Will be Blood is currently my film of the year. But go see it quick as it really hasn't performed well in the charts and so many a-cinema will be taking it off their schedules for next week. I think it's one of those films that will be much more successful in the DVD market, but you need to see it on the big screen to do it justice imo.
I'm not sure why Hayden is still working as an actor, although he did say last week he's bought a ranch/farm so I guess even he realises the acting game for him is nearly up. He has two films out in quick succession (Jumper and Awake) so I think these could be the final nails in the coffin, and judging by his performance in Jumper, it does not bode well.

This week I've seen both Be Kind, Rewind and Rambo.
I'd have to agree fully with Jonathan Ross' verdict with Be Kind, Rewind; Good in parts but those parts being few and far between.
Rambo, however, is short, simple and gets to the point. Consequently, it ain't half as bad as I feared and is a better watch then Be Kind. The finale is perhaps a tiny tad OTT in the gore aspect, but at least they didn't go too far with it and turn it into something as pathetic as Die Hard 4.0. Further more, it's possibly one of the better Rambo sequels which admittedly isn't saying much but a great b&w montage sequence and a nice ending makes it seem slightly more worth while.

Hayden was good in Jumper, unfortunately though he wasn't meant to be portraying a piece of Ikea furniture. He has about as much on-screen charisma as a bowl of over-boiled brown rice.
Anyway, sometimes you walk into a film thinking, or rather knowing it's going to be terrible. This happened to me yesterday when I had to watch Black Water. I knew nout about it you see, and was told it was like Jaws but with a Crocodile. Oh no, I thought, it's going to be like Lake Placid or Anaconda without J Lo. But I was very wrong (for once). Instead it was a low budget Aussie film that impressed me a great deal. It was simple but incredibly effective, and the constraints of a £250,000 budget helped in this case. What's much it was tense and even scary. I don't scare easily at films, but this had me quite tense indeed.
Seriously well worth seeing and easily the film-of-the-week beating Rambo and Be Kind into a bloody pulp.
So if you have already seen There Will be Blood, then see Black Water this week!!
Hope to see the afore mentioned There Will be Blood again on Monday. What are people's thoughts on 10,000 BC?? I can't help but like the looks of it but then the realization that it's a Roland Emmerich film hits home

I have always enjoyed Independance Day, and The Day After Tomorrow was good at trying to promote awareness of Global Warming despite it's inaccuracies (and the fact I only watched it just because I like Emmy Rossum )
10,000 BC looks massively historically inaccurate (there were not massive civilisation type cities at that time and men did not ride armies of mammoths). But it also looks like it will be very entertaining and will be big on effects and action, which Emmerich does well.
It does seem also to keep the creatures realistic to the time - Terror Birds, Smilodons and Mammoths all feature in it.

Hi guys,
We saw Sweeney Todd the other night and my only conclusion is that Tim Burton must be a very sick man, indeed. Johnny's good whatever he's doing and even his singing was quite bearable.
Hopefully I'll get to see Jumper soon. I'm glad some people liked it.

Welcome back Chris!! I've been meaning to e-mail you for ages but annoyingly time always fails me and there's now a long list of people I've been meaning to contact, lol.
Glad you liked Sweeney. I thought the blood and gore were done in a very theatrical way which made it a bit more palatable to watch.... for the feint-hearted that is
I haven't seen any films this week which is a shock. Although I do find this week's releases to be pretty uninspiring, so maybe that's a good thing.
I do hear of firm rumours that Bourne 4 is on the way. Personally I think this is a mistake, but if anyone can pull it off, then Greengrass is the man.
I also spotted this screenshot from the forth-coming Watchmen adaption, which I think looks very good indeed. What say you, Jamie??:

Hello Matt,
I've given up on you I must say. We are doing a walk between Lenham and Hollingbourne on Saturday. Interested?
More seriously, however, I understand that situation very well. I'm in the deep end too a bit and now that I have internet at home I will be catching up with those long-time outstanding updates as well.
I have not seen any of the Bourne movies, although I hear they are quite good.
Any time soon I'll be watching Awake and the Epic Movie(?) at home. Anyone knows if they are any good. I also have Downfall on my list (for ages) but I had no bad feelings whatsoever about it when I watched all the Jeeves&Wooster episodes for a few weeks. Laurie and Fry are just amazing.
I didn't have much time to go this last year to the cinema sadly, but I really like A Mighty Heart and Beowulf - latter in 3D at IMAX, the only way worth it. It was awesome.

fine,then...
i was the biggest detracter to this project.
you've got to remember that as someone who was there from issue one, when it first came out, with no fanfare or hype, not until years later when the trade paperback caused all the fuss and nonsense... graphic novel, indeed!
i am in no doubt that this film is going to be the biggest and greatest super-hero film ever concieved...
i really hope it connects with the mainstream dodos who fill our multiplexs.
people deserve to be thrilled again, and while indy is going to do that this summer... i hope that watchmen can follow that pattern.
watchmen,the movie.
that sounds like a great idea.

Don't give up on me yet, lol. I was having to entertain my Uncle this weekend but I hope you had a good walk.
I've heard negative things about Hayden's next film, Awake and is Epic Movie the spoof "comedy" film?? I must confess I'm not a fan of those type of films and I'm dreading the release of Meet the Spartans **shudders**
I'm looking forward to Diary of the Dead though, so much so that I just bought Resident Evil 4 on the Wii to get a quick zombie-action fix. Not sure about Vantage Point but I think it will be good entertainment if nout else.
I did see Punch Drunk Love last night on DVD and it was a great, quirky, dark film which really is the one Adam Sandler film you can watch without feeling the need to punch his face-in. Highly recommend if you desire something a bit off-beat.
Argh, Jamie. I'm glad you approve. I think Zack Snyder is one of those directors who pays great respect to his source material. He showed that with both 300 and his re-make of Dawn of the Dead, which I enjoyed very much. The other stills I've seen look to be carbon copies of the comic book, so things bode well at this very early stage and I do think the casting, with the exception of Rorschach, has been very good and hopefully I'll be wrong about Jackie Earle Haley.

I'm wary of Diary of the Dead, because Land of the Dead got a bit silly (zombies with guns WTH?). Romero must be careful or he'll end up being known as the guy who makes rubbish zombie films, instead of the master of the genre.

Land of the Dead is perhaps the weakest in Romero's series, but it would be slightly wrong to criticise it for being silly due to zombies being able to use guns. Through-out his zombie films, from Night of the Dead to Dawn of the Dead (which is a masterpiece) to Day of the Dead and the more recent Land of the Dead, the zombies have been growing in intelligence and that's one of the main points to the film series, hence why the zombies have and can use guns in Land of the Dead. Day of the Dead explored that in much greater and significant detail. I do think that series has perhaps come to an end, which is why I'm please Diary of the Dead will essentially be a prequel to Night of the Dead as it's set when the vial infection begins its outbreak.
Either way, it's zombies so it's a winner!! btw, it's well worth checking out the low-budget Brit zombie flick The Zombie Diaries. £5.99 @ play.com, don't you know

I saw Diary of the Dead last night and to be honest I'm not sure what to make of it just yet. The best way to describe my feelings are disappointment and fulfillment.
First the disappointing; the handheld, documentary style worked well in places but what you are seeing is an edited film rather then just raw footage, and consequently it came across more as a poor-man's Cloverfield. The usual hidden (or not so hidden) Romero message this time was not quite tip-top either. The concept of the media/government bending the truth has been done many times before, and the other message of even those pursuing the truth getting too enthralled with personal agendas could have been far better executed imo.
As for the fulfillment; Romero is still the master of zombie action and this is where the film excels. At times you do feel they've just done that because they can, but heck, it's what you want in a zombie film. And there are some very good scenes incased in the film.
So in conclusion, if you want some zombies then it's a good watch. If you want something to rival that of Dawn of the Dead (the original and to a lesser extent the remake) or even 28 Days/Weeks Later, you may well be disappointed. And as a foot note, for my money The Zombie Diaries is a better film, so go buy it now!!!!
