I saw Ratatouille the other day and I must say it was quite alright.
I got a bit deflated in recent years about animation movies turning either awful-real movies (Transformers was anything but enjoyable) or silly graphics that are trying to look real but not really managing to decide which side they are really on.
Enchanted on the other hand was totally cute.

I watched Vantage Point yesterday. I liked it a lot, but the different viewpoints of the same thing di get a bit annoying as each character only saw a little bit more then others.
But the last 20 minutes is great stuff, and it's all well acted.

Maybe he's been getting-in his 5-a-day these days??
I think the character stills are stunning (for those not sure what we're on about, check this link out from empireonline.com: Watchmen Character stills )
I'm very pleased they haven't strayed too far away from the comics. I still greatly resent Bryan Singer's decision to have all the X-Men wearing the same black leather costumes.
Hope you enjoy Blood and Diary, Jamie. Let us know what you think.
I saw the last half-hour of Vanatge Point and thought it was complete tripe. It tried sooooooo hard to be something like a Greengrass Bourne film (no surprise considering its director, Pete Travis, is an associate of the great man himself), but sadly doing a Greengrass is a real skill that only Greengrass can do. That last car chase was full of drop frames and crash zooms it made it look very cheap and boarding nasty. But I'll give it one thing; it is stupid entertainment and that's why it'll be number 1 this week.

We just saw Jumper a few hours ago. It needs a better director urgently but for a sci-fi action flick it is a great idea. It won't be best movie of the year definitely but will not sweep the Razzies either. I kind of liked it.
Now looking forward to Wanted.

I think since Bourne Identity, Doug Liman has really lost his form and it's really funny reading articles on him as he's always keen to say how much he doesn't really like the Paul Greengrass Bourne sequels and how great he is because he was the one who actually started the ball rolling.......when deep down you know he's actually really annoyed and jealous Greengrass managed to make not one but two superior sequels, lol.
Either way, I think another director might be best for Jumper too as it was actually a potentially really neat idea but was just too teeneyfied. Maybe Doug thought he was still making an episode of The O.C??
I'm very pleased you liked There Will be Blood! Jamie. I still often ponder on the film, so it's definitely left its mark on me. Can't wait for the DVD.
I watched The Spiderwick Chronicles yesterday and I can say that I was once again pleasantly surprised. For a kids/family film, it's pretty full-on with a great little story, full of wonderful animation and characters. I suppose it's a modern Labyrinth, and I'd recommend it to anyone, young or old

I saw The Other Boleyn Girl (for the female leads more then anything), it's OK.
Neither Portman or Johansson can hold down English accents very long and the film further convinced me that Johansson can't act, her emotional range in the film is pretty much non existant.
The script is clunky but the locations are good and the costumes are well done. Eric Bana isn't bad, but he doesn't do an awful lot other then sit around and look Kingly and young in his look-at-me-I'm-the-king-baby sort of way.
I've seen worse historical adaptations, but there's not much life in this. I only saw it since I don't pay, I certainly wouldn't spend ticket money on it.

I'm glad I've seen it from another person's pen. I never understood why Lost In Translation or even Girl With a Pearl Earring were such amazing movies with her. They were good, or rather in the case of Lost In Translation looked good but lacked any substance. If I wanted to go for young and talented Katherine Heigl beats most every other one of them by miles. Knocked Up was one of the most interesting movies of late.

I can't say that I've ever been a fan of the Scarlet either. I haven't seen too many of her films mind, although I did have to endure the Nanny Diaries last year, lol.
I saw The Cottage today and thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't quite understand why some critics have some kind of agenda against it. I found it really refreshing compared to the recent spat of torture-porn films and the forth-coming wave of Americanese horror films (i.e Hollywood remakes of cult Japanese horror films). The cottage was funny when it needed to be, serious when it needed to be, and gory when it needed to be. A great blend that worked. If I had one criticism, then it would be too much swearing in it. You must stay to the very end if you see it too

I saw Diary of the Dead today.
I wasn't overly affected by it, since all zombie movies now are essentially the same.
At least it didn't have the smart gun-weilding kind in it.
I laughed a lot at certain bits, especially the crazy deaf Amish guy.
Entertainment yes, originality, no.

So did you see The Cottage in the end Jamie?
I thought Vantage Point was quite good. The entire story takes place within an hour or so, but its told in flashback from each character's perspective. This seemed a bit annoying at first but the plot unfolded and tied together nicely at the end. There was also a thrilling car chase at the end (Jason Bourne style). Its by no means a great film but better than a lot I've seen recently. Its definitely a big screen film - will look very average on the tele.
Cheers,
Ram

hello ram,
the cottage was very enjoyable, not a great film but the kind me and the missus will watch together and nod appreciatively at each other... cos we're film snob geeks, lol.
the stand-out performance had to be jennifer ellisons t-shirt,though.
doug bradley was great,i would love him to make another appearance at a SM event soon...
a journo friend of mine went to a press screening of 10,000bc and said it was terrible,so we'll give that a miss.
currently loving the hellboy 2,incredible hulk 2,iron man and dark knight trailers...over and over again,lol...
anyway,back to the diy.
so much for bank holiday weekends...
