Well, it's good to see Indy getting some good comments. I haven't seen it for a second time yet, but am looking forward to another viewing and I think it will sit even prettier. The atomic bomb scene did feel bizarre at first but I can certainly see why it was included, and it does portray a very negative impression of mankind which is right. I just wish the fridge part was better conceived because that was awful.
I had the tough task of watching Superhero Movie today, and it was rubbish!! Not funny except the Tom Cruise bit, and the end of reel bloopers were significantly better then what was in the main film. Please, don't see this film. Go see Speed Racer instead, a very under-rated film because most of the critics were to dumb to understand it.
Anyone seen Sex & the City?? I haven't because it doesn't interest me but it has proven to be a HUGE hit.

Sex and the City had it moments - but I found that the TV show was much edgier. Some great laughs in it though.
I can't stomach another Indy viewing - one was enough of a disappointment.
You're correct Lord Tice - Speed Racer was gorgeous to watch!! Especially on IMAX. The critics and the general public don't get it at all. I thought it was WAY better than Indy...

I never watched the TV series of Sex & the City, but from what i saw of the trailer it consits of a bunch of middle-aged women talking about how their life ambition is to get married and have a huge wardrobe.
To me that is a sexist and out of date view of women, it's wrong to bring across to the female audience that that is the purpose of life (unless you live in the 70s).
Plus Sarah Jessica Parker has aged very badly, if I decide to watch a film about women with unrealistically high sex lives then I'd prefer they were attractive.

Has anyone seen The Hidden Fortress? I just have. I've always liked Mifune Toshiro's acting after Yojimbo and Sanjuro and this opinions stands firm as ever. It may be a slow-flowing movie but the two hours didn't seem to be long while watching.
I once saw another long and slow Japanese movie, Tokyo Story - the old one about the old Japanese couple - and you just have to admire these Japanese directors for making a story last with that pace.

Argh, Yojimbo is one of my all-time fav films. I also really liked Hidden Fortress and that was a very significant influence for Star Wars of cause, and indeed Toshiro Mifune was an early consideration for Obi-Wan. A great actor easily.
I would also recommend Throne of Blood and Rashomon.
It's great too see another Speed Racer fan Yrol I'd like to have seen it at the IMAX too but I'll definitely be buying it on Blu-Ray when it's out. I had to buy myself a Japanese model kit of the Mach V as a result of watching the film
Sorry to hear that Indy 4 didn't go down quite as well.
The main problem I have with Sex and the City is that I find the main characters quite unlikeable and I don't like the message that 'if you don't buy labels, you're worthless' that it seems to portray.
Anyway, onto this week's releases..... Saw The Incredible Hulk the other day and it was merely alright. Nothing special, and I'm one of the few who actually liked Ang Lee's version. This is a much more 'leave your brain at the door' type of film, and you feel that they came up with the last twenty minutes of the film first, and wrote the rest of it around that. I can't really recommend it, but it's not terrible.
The Happening is also out this week. Haven't seen it but everyone I know that has has said it's pants. I can't say I'm not surprised by that, and I'm not sure what role M. Night Shyamalan cast himself in this time..... an ever failing film-maker, perhaps??
Not long now until The Dark Knight

There's a great Guardian review of the Incredible Hulk that said it makes the Ang lee version "look like Citizen Kane". I'll go an see it anyway but I've not got my hopes up.
Not interested in The Happening, it looks ridiculous and not remotely frightening in any way.

heck,i loved the ang lee version of the hulk, although the incredible hulk topped that film.
some lovely, almost bourne-esque sweeping shots of brazil(?) and some great camera work.
ed norton and liv tyler were both superb and a great onscreen couple,i thought.
the hulk himself was an amazing piece of animation, although the abomination was taken down a bit too quick for my liking.
loved the many nods to the comics, including the great tim blake nelson as the soon to become 'leader',i think he was called.
stan the man gets a great cameo, too.
and come on,tony stark... lol,how cool.
ultimates,the movie... bring it on!
"we're putting a team together".
come on,what's not to like?
the trailer for TDK looks great, although i bet ritchie will prefer superhero movie, lol.
and i'm looking forward to the happening... it looks like a great mood building film, and hopefully will stand alongside the village and unbreakable as m.nights best works.
sorry,tice.

Batman definately looks awesome, undountedly the biggest film of the year.
I look forward to Prince Caspian also. Not entirely sure how many of the Narnia stories they'll be doing, they seem to have done 2 & 4 and ignored 1 & 3 (whih is fair enough seeing as they were the worst ones anyway).

I actually quite liked the Magician's nephew myself. But the next Narnia one is the Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
I think I preferred the first movie, I didn't like Prince Caspian so much when I watched it but will try to watch it again see if my opinion changes. Probably because it was my favourite book that it is harder for me to like as a movie.

lol, whenever I watch a film Jamie, I always have in the back of my mind "will Jamie Richards like this one??". I had a feeling you'd be left impressed with The Incredible Hulk. Yes, the poor-man's Paul Greengrass sequence was okay, and some of the animation was nice but once again the physical actions of the main fight just didn't click, and I can't say there was a huge improvement upon Ang Lee's Hulk in the VFX apartment, except of cause the Hulk has much more screen time on this one. I am however looking forward to the DVD/Blu-Ray release, as it will feature a new edit with 70 mins added. I did feel the film felt a little rushed and so this would explain that. And I do agree there were some good, if not very good performances in the film; William Hurt being my highlight.
And the lead-up to the eventual Avengers film is ticking along nicely
I think Prince Caspian will be good entertainment at least, and a good family Summer film. There'll also be a special chapter reading event with Lucy on Sunday 29th via satellite, which should be good and could push Disney into a wide digital distribution release of the film.

lol,i always try to live up to your expectations, matt.
i really did enjoy the hulk film, possibly cos it was so chock full of great fanboy moments, and as you rightly say,the dvd release should expand greatly upon that, including the supposed scene where banner attempts to do himself in in antarctica, and the resulting hulk-out climaxing in the body of a certain 1940s super-soldier being released from the ice...
whooop!

Not really, I had a hard time keeping my attention on the movie. But then I have worked 3 weeks straight with no breaks until this weekend so that could have been a factor.

Now that does all sound very interesting Jamie. And I remember those Antarctic shots from the trailer now, and I've only just twigged that they weren't in the film. Would that ice-man be Captain America, per chance?? That explains why his film will be set in WWII and how he'll end-up being in the Avengers film set in the here and now. That sounds very intriguing.
I think I'll defo buy the Blu-Ray release as soon as it's out because I just know there's a superior film bursting to come out.
I saw (and I'm almost ashamed to say for the first time) most of Dirty Harry last night in HD glory on our digital projector. What a mighty film that is. They just don't make them like that anymore.... shame. I foresee a purchase of the just released boxset soon
lol, that's called life, Jeannette. Twice this week I haven't returned home until 3am, and in-between work I've been decorating the computer room, looking after two dogs and having to take my Uncle to the hospital, so there is indeed no rest for the wicked
147 mins is pushing it for a kids film granted, but in examples like Hulk or Golden Compass, sometimes it's best not to rush things just to get it under the 2 hour mark.
