I'd rather the decorating etc rather than doing that time just working for 3 weeks with no time for anything other than work (when I say work I don't include errands I actually mean job work that's all I did for 3 weeks for 18 hours a day) tongue

Wow Jeannie, 18 hours a day for three straight weeks? Even junior doctors don't work that long. Aren't there laws in Canada to protect you from working like that? :-)

Prince Caspian was a box office disappointment in the US (relatively speaking). They also picked a bad time to release the film. I'm sure it'll fare better in the UK.

True Jamie. I work for the Weather Network in Canada doing web traffic that's 9-5 but then I have freelance stuff for web design. I told the person I do work for on an art website I wasn't available those weeks because I had to do in class driving school on the weekends so she sent it when I was away in class and had to be sent out last week, hence the whole 18 hours a day. Not fun. It won't be happening again that's for sure, last week I was physically and mentally drained and was surviving on coffee but all better now I am caught up on sleep.

Ram, I think that's why it didn't do too well here. We hardly hear of it unlike other movies really. I'll have to try and watch it again see if it is better the second time around.

I rather enjoyed Prince Caspian - I thought the fight scenes were marvelous! They did pad the movie version quite a bit, but upon re-reading the book, I believe they did it for good reason. Yes, they've skipped 1 & 3 of the series, but that's because the Pevensie kids aren't in those - and they need a constant element to tie the Narnia films films together, and the studio believe the kids are it.

Absolutely LOVED The Incredible HULK! Thought it was extremely well done. It is more of an action flick for sure - I found the action sequences really fun and sometimes jaw dropping. I like parts of the first Hulk - it was definitely more artsy and cerebral (really admired the comic panel-esque shots), but the whole Nick Nolte story and the way they butchered the orgin of the Hulk, ruined the movie.
Norton was superb. Lots of fanboy goodness to behold!

Biggest movie of the summer for me would be The Clone Wars - August 15 will be an AWESOME day!! The latest trailer is spectacular!!

From the trailers I want to see Kung Fu Panda.

Does anyone know anything about The Forbidden Kingdom? It's the Jackie Chan - Jet Li movie and was supposed to play in The UK from July 11 but this date has been taken off for a while now. It's so dreadfully annoying. A Jackie Chan - Jet Li movie was cinemawise my second biggest wish to seee after Episode III. My aikido club was supposed to go once we came back from Hungary from training camp but now there is nothing. worried

Hopefully I get to see Mongol before it gets taken off from the listings. And of course there is Wanted... grin

The Forbidden Kingdom is down for a July 9th release, but it's possible the distributers are having second thoughts. I'll see if I can get any concrete info at work.

Wanted is out this coming Wednesday and I've been encouraged by the 18 certificate, which should mean no holes barred stuff.

I've seen two films this week. First up is Teeth and this has Jamie Richards written all over it. I wont go into details about the plot, but it's actually a pretty good film that begs to be different. The first hour is quite subtle and delicate, which works very well but then things get more junked up in the last half-hour, which is kind of the point given what happens to the main character. I did some research and this film is actually quite old, so it's quite a surprise that it's finally received a UK distribution and the print we had was brand spanking new, rather then a second-hand one from the US where this film was released theatrically in January. So, if you crave for something different and want to support a border-line art house horror film, then go see it!!

Next is Adulthood, with him from Doctor Who init (no pun intended), plus a few other Doctor Who cast members (including the voice of the Daleks et al). This is a sequel to the previous film Kidulthood and basically it's about teen hoodies from the East end who are up to no good. The dialogue and acting are very irritating, the attempts to add a touch of class with jump-cuts and split-screens are very weak but there is something that draws you into the film's characters and stories. It's okay but it's aimed at a very specific crowd, of which I am not part of.

Next week will be dominated by Prince Caprisun and I think Wanted will do fairly well, and then we have Hancock & Kung-fu Panda the week after. It will be a busy month!!

Mongol was absolutely beautiful. We've just come home from the cinema. The photography was stunning. The landscapes made me think more deeply about the meaning of such words as harsh. The actors for all roles were perfectly selected and there was only one minor grudge. The sex scene. It was pretty short, nothing much seen and from the movie's point of view it added no value whatsoever.

Even in we Hungary learnt very little about Genghis Khan, considering he pretty much ran our country down. nerd My friend however confirmed one of the striking facts for me from the movie that Genghis Khan did actually save monasteries during his conquers and hurting women and children was not his policy at all. Impressive. And a highly recommended movie.

Edit: The Forbidden Kindom posters are out for July 9th and Mongol is rated 15.

It's hard not to be disappointed by Teeth, even if you hate it, lol. Go see it, ahead of Wanted imo wink

I might see Wanted on Tuesday as that's when it's due to arrive and I'm on the closing shift. The guest review that I read was positive, but I fear it could be just a bit too ridiculous.

Forbidden Kingdom previews on Wednesday 9th & Thursday 10th July. I wouldn't mind seeing Mongol and might try to catch it at my local indie cinema. I also really want to see The Escapist starring the ever reliable Brain Cox.

Unbelievably Adulthood has done big business this weekend. You do feel the need to congratulate all involved given the fact it was probably made with the earnings of a paperboy, even if it has caused some trouble by drawing in the wrong crowd.

There was a brawl last night when people were queueing for Adulthood, I guess that sums up the audience it is aimed at.
Someone I served said "if I want to see a bunch of hoodies, I can go down the road and look at them for free, I'm not paying £8.50 to do it".

I don't think the anti-social youth problem is going to be solved by making a film that panders to those that are involved in it.

I should also be seeing Wanted on Tuesday. Not sure how good it will be, but it looks very entertaining.

I've just returned from work after seeing Wanted, and I really enjoyed it I must say.
The story was great, the action intense and managed to feel very fresh. James 'Connor Macleod' McAvoy did the business, and the overall execution was pretty superb.
It was Star Wars meets the Matrix meets Fight Club meets Night/Day Watch, the former no surprise given it's from the same director. Usually when a foreign director tries to make his mark in Hollywood by applying their unique (and successful) style, it tends not to work out. However, this film is an exception and I think it's far superiror to Night Watch, which I always felt was tad boring. His grungy, uncomfortable style is very apparent in this film, but he also blends it in with some very nice and different stuff indeed (the big weaving room being a higlight).
I think I even found it more entertaining then the Matrix, and far more involving thanks to the pretty simple story and enjoyable characters.

A firm 4 stars (out of five).
P.S - the 18 certificate is very justified due to a bit of the old ultra violence and blood.
